The long awaited documentray is hitting the screen on December 8th:

What with the award in a few days and the book in January they're ramping up the game.

They didn’t flee ! Quit the hyperbole! They never wanted to leave , they wanted to stay but be able to make megabucks for themselves and accept freebies and were shocked when The Queen ( rightly) said no. Only then did they flounce off and have complained ever since .

No, they ‘flounced.’

If true (and it does look correct) that's a bizarre thing to do.

Actually I think very common to use ‘stock footage.’.

MaulPerton · 04/12/2022 11:51

Nah, I reckon he’s sat on an expansive patio, poolside, with a cigar and a crate of champagne!

"My work is done".

CathyorClaire · 04/12/2022 12:05

But why would they need to use stills from a random event neither of them were connected to when they were (still are) perfectly capable of attracting hordes of paps on their own account?

Oops they lost the head of Archewell - wonder why ?

I don’t know. Because when editing the promo they realised they hadn’t filmed enough nighttime paparazzi stuff? Hadn’t shot paparazzi stuff from an angle that works with the edits? Maybe they’ve actually used an old shot of paparazzi at the premiere that Harry might have attended. I’m pretty confident the would be using old footage from various sources. I don’t think the documentary is going to be Harry and Megan Day 1 of filming from then on - I think they’ll go back in time before they met. All I know for sure is that it’s quite common practice to use stock footage.

They don’t though, or at least not normally, because of the existence of the Royal Rota. The main media groups have an arrangement that they will not all attend all royal engagements in the UK (space and security make it impractical) so they take it in turns to attend each engagement on the strict basis that their material and pictures are shared with all outlets.

This means for the vast majority of the Meghan and Harry’s UK appearances, there will only be handful of media present. It’s also why comments like Meghan that she couldn’t possibly do the school run in the UK because there’d be 30 papparazzi snapping away every day are nonsense (quite apart from the strict rules about taking photos of minors).

The Sussexes and Netflix too I guess are aware that most people outside the UK will have no idea about this, so to tell their story about how “unsurvivable” the press interest is, the press needs to look overwhelming - and generally, it won’t. Hence they use a stock image of another event entirely.

This arrangement only holds for UK media though, so events where the foreign press are all in the UK to cover it - their wedding, for example, there will be large numbers of cameras. Or coming out of hospital with their baby (here’s a shot of just some of the photographers present when William and Kate left hospital with Princess Charlotte). Only the Sussexes didn’t do that, or course.

According to people more know than me , they weren’t paps as they were wearing yellow wristbands therefore accredited photographers.

Serenster · 04/12/2022 12:31

Interesting, @Readinginthesun . I had a quick look at the photo of photographers at Prince Charlotte’s birth i just posted above, and can’t spot any wristbands on anyone.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/12/2022 12:32

Thank you, Serenster - I'd forgotten about the restricted numbers because of the royal rota, and what you said makes sense

It appears H&M don't like an overwhelming press presence, which is fair enough, but it seems a bit silly to then make it look as if there is one when they could quite easily own their choice

CathyorClaire · 04/12/2022 12:32

So in short yet another example of their bending the truth to fit their narrative.

Seems very shortsighted in a couple who are already struggling with being perceived as 'economical' with said truth.

Oops they lost the head of Archewell - wonder why ?

They are apparently taking over full leadership of Archewell themselves. They are either very brave or very foolish to not have a professional with previous experience to do this. Neither of them afaik has any experience of running such an enterprise.

yellowmoosefever · 04/12/2022 12:47

I think Netflix has said 8th Dec.

what could possibly go wrong?

They will be busy - sacked their PR firm after The Cut interview and taking on that themselves and now someone has walked / pushed from heading up Archewell and they are taking that on as well……

Repeated pattern of severed or breakdown of multiple relationships with family members, friends, colleagues…….

As others have said why would they need to use stock photo if they have been harassed in the way they say ? Could it be that isn’t quite the case ? Remember Harry said he was chased by paparazzi after a charity event yet not one CCTV camera picked up anything ?
Or Meghan saying she couldn’t take Archie to school in the U.K. as there would be 40 photographers in a pen waiting for them despite the law in this country forbidding such a thing ?
And another thing about cameras , if they are so triggering for Harry why on earth did he allow them to photograph such intimate moments especially his wife in apparent distress ?

Agree although they seem to have lanyards on ? Maybe it depends on the occasion ? The photographers in the HP shot seem to have wristbands?

MrsFinkelstein · 04/12/2022 13:05

I'm assuming (please correct me if I'm wrong) that they were referencing the yellow wristbands in the footage shown in the trailer - from the Harry Potter premiere?

I don’t know why readingtheSun:. I said I didn't know why in another post. And I offered up a few possible reasons. All I know for sure is that it’s not uncommon to use stock footage.

Furries · 04/12/2022 13:16

@Readinginthesun - slight derail, but snow?! You have my sympathies, along with a warming cup of tea or a vat of wine - whichever you prefer.

I didn’t listen to any of the podcasts, but that’s more to do with how I process stuff. I love reading and I like watching tv, but I can’t do podcasts/audiobooks etc - my brain just switches off. I think viewing figures will remain high. Though maybe not as high as the stakes are, as they are obviously stratospheric!

Serenster · 04/12/2022 13:29

Hard to know which of the huge number of threads this should best go on, but I note that Netflix have now amended the blurb about the series to update the completely inaccurate wording about “the state of the British Commonwealth today” that it says the series will cover. That has now been amended to refer to “the Commonwealth at large”.

Good going Netflix, needing a factual correction before the programme even airs. Imagine what the rest of it is like..
