That seems to be the main talking point from the press. It has been referenced by PageSix and the Today show in America.

William and Kate’s US trip highlights how they’re not Harry and Meghan

She rented the dress. For about £300

The dress cost £74 to rent. I think it's something like £350 to buy.

Ah ok. But definitely not $11000

Goodness me . The much maligned Daily Mail has suddenly become the go-to paper for accurate articles !!

They jumped to inaccurate conclusions. A later story from them. Best to take everything they say with a pinch of salt.

$11,000 on earrings is utterly shameful while a cost of living crisis rages on. Anyway Kate was lovely to do this 🤗

i suppose it would have been cheaper to wear ones gifted from a murderer like Meghan did, but Kate has standards 🤣

smilesy · 03/12/2022 14:22

Ah I misunderstood. I thought tatala was referring to the dress. But I’m not sure what the problem with the earrings was? They were Diana’s.

tatala · 03/12/2022 14:42

Why did the Queen accept them? It was loaned to Meghan. It's still in the royal household's possession.

@tatala

Oh the ‘ blame the queen defence’ , did the queen force them onto her ears, poor Meghan, so brave

Oh be fair now. She wore them but probably shed three tears from her left eye.

Oh my days. I am lost for words. Maybe look up the history of where the diamonds and other precious stones that the Royal fawners love to talk about, came from. The ignorance in these post is bordering on lunacy.

Ohnonevermind · 03/12/2022 15:45

@LadyKenya

@tatala is the one complaining about Kate paying market rates for Diamonds 🤷‍♀️

I see you are repeating your toddler posting antics on yet another thread.

Khashoggi was still alive and well, and a thorn in the Saudi’s side when the Queen accepted the earrings and they were passed onto Meghan as her wedding gift (which meant she had primary custody of them).

He’d been murdered however a few weeks before Meghan wore them for the first time, by which time the Saudi royals had been publicly implicated in his death. Thry’d been well and truly accused of involvement by the time she wore them a second time. Both times, the provenance of the earrings was deliberately concealed. So that one’s on Meghan.

Even the Times is having a go, this isn't very nice.

Why did you post it then?

Actually, the earrings Kate was wearing appear to be new, and from Asprey, which certifies that its jewels are conflict-free and is signed up to the UN Kimberley Convention about ethically sourcing stones. So in this case, the earrings are not a concern.

mathanxiety · 03/12/2022 17:15

Regardless of the Khashoggi murder, surely the House of Saud's overall human rights record (and particularly as it relates to rights of women and migrant workers) would have made any gifts from that quarter questionable? I suppose it's the shared affinity for horses that makes them ok.

Iirc, the origins of several famous stones that feature in ceremonial outfits have origins in Imperial times and would not have come into the possession of the RF unless there was a considerable British military presence in the places they were dug up.

tatala · 03/12/2022 17:28

The finalists were not present at this event, so who was the show put on for? I find it very odd that William and Kate travelled to another country only for potential awardees to sit at home, citing the want to reduce carbon footprint.

And all the rest of the jewels that she normally wears during occasions? The same cannot be said for them.

Seriously?! 😄 It's not me that chose to wear blood diamonds. Where's your criticism for the woman who did?

LadyKenya · 03/12/2022 19:58

The fact remains that the Jewellery belonged to the Queen. If Meghan is going to be criticised for wearing questionable jewellery, she is not the only one to do so, is she?

You haven't criticised her, though. You criticised me! 🤔

I should have left your quote out, I should have directed my post to ohnevermind, as that was the post I was highlighting.
