The royal family

Rumour that the King won't make Edward Duke of Edinburgh

Allegedly as part of the King's desire for a slimmed down monarchy.

I would have thought that the Royal Family could really do with the Wessexes as working royals. If they slim down so far in a few years they'll soon beonly the Cambridges available.

That's two posters now who've suggested that James has additional needs. Is there something the rest of us don't know??

BeckyWithTheAverageHair · 27/11/2022 21:46

Or are they just making shit up?

WinnieTheW0rm · 27/11/2022 21:48

The only possible reason is that his senior school hasn't been announced (and no one has leaked it) so people are making up stuff to fill in the blanks.

He's only 14, and aside from events surrounding the late Queen's funeral, he's appeared at only family events and a couple of other things, much like his elder sister when she was that age. His parents have always said that their DC will be expected to make their own way in the world and work for a living (like the maternal side of the family) so I don't expect we're going to see much of him

JustLyra · 27/11/2022 22:14

They didn’t announce Louise’s school either I don’t think. It came out, but there wasn’t an announcement. It was always referred to as a “private school in Ascot” rather than specifically named.

JustLyra · 27/11/2022 22:15

*senior school

Readinginthesun · 27/11/2022 22:32

I find it really distasteful that at least 2 posters have suggested that James has Additional Needs . Even if he does (and I have no idea ) what business is it it of ours ?
Louise is currently at St Andrews university .

myrtleWilson · 28/11/2022 07:00

I think it's just the one poster (coffee) making the suggestion about James on more than one occasion

I remember the assertion on another thread too but couldn’t remember who said it so thought it must be 2 posters .
Thanks for clarifying.

myrtleWilson · 28/11/2022 09:07

Oh I don't recall seeing it on another thread so there may well be more than one poster pushing that unnecessary viewpoint

MissMarpleRocks · 28/11/2022 09:58

And if he is homeschooled so what? It’s none of our business anyway!

ajandjjmum · 28/11/2022 10:02

susan12345678 · 27/11/2022 21:43

Why do people keep speculating about James having additional needs, it’s unpleasant

I couldn't agree more - vile speculation without foundation.

Typical of these threads - people announce 'they're home-schooled' without an ounce of fact, and others repeat.

antelopevalley · 28/11/2022 13:26

You put your kids into the public eye and this is what happens.
It is why Anne kept her kids totally out of the public eye. Until the many stories about Louise many people had no idea this part of the family even existed.

Louise and James were rarely seen before they were teenagers and are now only seen occasionally.
However often they are seen is absolutely no excuse to speculate on whether or not a child has Additional Needs .
Pretty sure you would be incandescent if people speculated about the Sussex DC .

antelopevalley · 28/11/2022 13:40

There have been loads of news stories about Louise that were obviously released by the family.
I am not agreeing that it is right to speculate. I am saying push your kids into the public and that is what people do. It is why any sensible celebrities keep their kids well out of the public eye. It is always a double-edged sword. And I am sure Edward and Sophie must realise that. They have been part of the Royal Family for too long not to realise.

antelopevalley · 28/11/2022 13:44

@Readinginthesun I do not care what people speculate about the Sussex children. I am not team Sussex you know.
If they put their children in the public eye speculation will happen. I hope they don't for the children's sake. I would condemn racism that came from them being in the public eye. Anything else would just be the usual speculating people do when they think they know these perfect strangers.
Unless you are a secret friend of the Royal Family posting on here, none is os know anymore than the press tell us. James could be a genius or have SEN - and there is nothing shameful about having SEN as some comments imply. He could be a wonderful teenage boy or a pain in the arse. He could be very hard working or very lazy. None of us know. He is a stranger.

JenniferBarkley · 28/11/2022 14:23

I first read speculation that James had additional needs at the time of William and Kate's wedding, more than a decade ago. It's not a new idea, although of course none of our business.

I think the title will either be announced around the coronation (it's different to announcing Camilla and William's new titles the week the Queen died as that was all about the line of succession rather than sentiment) or that Edward and Sophie have decided they don't want it for James for whatever reason (additional needs, shy, burden of titles on the York princesses etc). I don't think Charles would just decide not to give it without their agreement.

You are not Team Sussex ?? Oh well there must be another poster of the same name who gushes over MM .

😂Say vile things about H&M & kids = racism and nothing but racism

Say vile things about any of the other kids in the RF = they appeared in public so it's fair game

How about focusing on the grown ups exclusively?

🙄

Exactly . I saw some shocking comments about the Wales children after the PJ and have also seen criticism of their clothes .
All very nasty .

Loads?

I can only think of the one about where she would be going to university (that also covered her summer job at a garden centre)

Plus one last year saying that she would be inheriting Prince Phillips carriage ponies (but that was part of lots of stories about the late Prince and his activities)

What others have I missed?

Serenster · 28/11/2022 19:31

I think the poster is confused about how newspapers get their stories. In the case of Louise, Buckingham Palace made an announcement that she would be attending St Andrew’s university. A large number of outlets picked up that announcement and wrote stories about it (and most of them mentioned the fact that they were relying on the BP announcement).

Later the Sun found and published the story that Louise had been working in a garden centre. They had labelled their story an “Exclusive” meaning they were the first ones to publish the story. That story was then picked up by other publications (the Mirror/The Mail/Metro etc) once it had come out and was run by them too, generally with a reference back to the Sun as their source for it.

So, all the recent coverage about Louise would have followed just one official announcement - where she was going to university. The Sun also got a tip that lead to the garden centre story - it could have come from the family, it could have come from a member of the public or the garden centre itself, for the good publicity. We don’t know. But anyway, the genesis of the recent coverage of Louise was just these two things. But Louise’s family were not releasing “loads of news stories” about their daughter.

(This was all pre-funeral by the way. Coverage of Louise at the funeral was organic, and based on what she was wearing and what she was doing - borrowing clothes from her mother and joining in the grandchildren’s vigil etc etc).

And yet he's managed to have the Counsellors of State rejigged at speed

Revisiting my point above it now appears the lowlife brother will be stripped of his £3m a year security detail next month.

Telling that this is happening so shortly after the Queen's death and let's not forget the immediate proclamation of Wills as PoW. What Charles wants Charles gets and he's not shy in coming forward.

Edward can kiss DofE goodbye IMO.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 29/11/2022 00:19

I think not giving the DOE to Edward and removing Andrew’s protection is laying the groundwork for not giving Prince and Princess titles to Archie and Lily, it shows King Charles isn’t victimising H&M, he can show he is doing exactly what he said he would do, slimming down the monarchy, if I’m right it’s a shame Edward is the collateral damage as I do think he should have the title as promised, I think Edward and Sophie have earned their stripes and if I was them I would be pretty miffed and would want to flick two fingers to KC and tell him he can open his own bloody community centres from now on.

Quarique · 29/11/2022 09:56

Archie and Lili don't need to be given Prince and Princess titles, they are automatic as they are the children of the son of the king.

I hope Sophie and Edward retire at a sensible age and don't keep on going like the Gloucesters etc.

I can understand why the Kents and Gloucesters were needed in the 1950s as there were not many working royals and travel was a lot slower. These days communication and therefore presence is much more visible, travel is faster and fewer are needed.

So Harry and Meghan were correct when they said they were told their children would not receive titles?
