Prince Harry's Memoir: A World Publishing Phenomenon

There will likely be several bashing threads on Harry's memoir before it is published, but I am interested in discussing with anyone who is interested in the very interesting marketing choices of the publishers and their approach.

English language editions of SPARE will be published on 10 January 2023 in EIGHT territories: the US, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa and Canada.

The book will also be published in translation in 15 additional languages:

SPANISH Plaza & Janés/Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial
GERMAN Penguin Verlag/Penguin Random House Verlagsgruppe GmbH, PORTUGUESE BRAZIL Objetiva/Grupo Companhia das Letras
PORTUGUESE PORTUGAL Objectiva/Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial, SIMPLIFIED CHINESE Penguin Random House China
DANISH Politikens Forlag
DUTCH Hollands Diep, an imprint of Overamstel
FINNISH Otava Publishing Company Ltd
FRENCH Éditions Fayard
GREEK Pedio Books
HUNGARIAN Corvina Kiadó
ITALIAN Mondadori,
POLISH Wydawnictwo Marginesy,
ROMANIAN Nemira Publishing House,
SWEDISH Albert Bonniers Förlag.

This is absolutely sensational as it means it will be simultaneously published in 23 territories on the same day.

There are not many books where simultaneous release occurs in different markets. From this, I would say that the book will more than earn its advance, just from the foreign sales alone.

They also chose a banger of a title as it puts focus on the troubling notion of the Spare in a system based on primogeniture, and one that imbues both intrinsic and extrinsic value based on a person's birth order.

Imagine growing up knowing that no matter how loved you may be, your constitutional role is ultimately to be the spare to the heir.

Can't wait to read it!

We should stick to the facts. Harry was not able to go to university presumably because his A level grades were not very high. I believe he did not do as well as his brother. That does not mean he is not responsible for his own actions however. 50% of the UK does not obtain reasonable GCSE grades even but that does not mean they are controlled by a spouse. Okay looked it up (and it probably proves that the myth that Eton equals high grades is untrue - they can only work with what they have even with some of the best teaching in the UK) "Prince Harry left Eton College with two A level passes - a B in Art and a D in Geography".

hoooops · 09/11/2022 16:47

I don't even mind about proof but what even makes you think he is ND or has learning disabilities @Croque? I'm baffled.

RosettaStormer · 09/11/2022 16:56

Being not very bright does not equate to being ND necessarily. Honestly, I am just staggered. The world has gone mad.

Made up armchair bullshit

Nothing new in that, Samcro; as we see time and again many MNers just love to diagnose MH difficulties and neurodiversities of every type. You only have to look at the endless threads where it's insisted that such-and-such must have ADHD, even when those who know them are clear that they haven't

And unless Harry chose to share an actual diagnosis I'm not sure how we'd know anyway, since diagnoses are rightly private in the UK and California

Exactly

The biggest threat to these two is not dislike or criticism - it’s apathy and boredom. And I’m almost there - sick of hearing about the pod casts and better up. Bored of their award shows. So yes - they need the crown, need their reality show, need the book where haz can spill about being royal. Because they have nothing else of substance

milti · 09/11/2022 18:53

He comes across as stupid because he talks about things he knows little about and he has little experience of the real world - probably more so now than he had . He’s not very bright but probably average intelligence. his mother suggested he was dim sadly and it’s stuck

mrschocolatte · 10/11/2022 06:22

@milti Poor you. Almost sick of hearing about them. And yet here you are 28 pages later still engaging and slagging off H at every opportunity in the most offensive ways possible. Don’t you get tired and bored saying the same thing over and over? Don’t you realise you’re just screaming into a void?

milti · 10/11/2022 08:17

No not really but thanks for asking

Ohnonevermind · 10/11/2022 09:31

@milti

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Milti, I think you need to be crowned the queen of one liners. 😀 So many brilliant ripostes 👏👏

mrschocolatte · 10/11/2022 15:29

@themessygarden Yeah, you go ahead and cheerlead for the poster that had to be reported for posting pictures mocking H and insinuating he had a learning disability. If someone had done that on social media or a forum about your child or family member, you’d be screaming bloody murder. You may not like him but there are lines you just don’t cross. If that’s the company you like to keep, says more about you.

milti · 10/11/2022 16:18

I haven’t said anything about a LD

Croque · 10/11/2022 16:19

milti · 10/11/2022 08:17

No not really but thanks for asking

Attagirl 💀😆

milti · 10/11/2022 16:19

I said he is probably of average intelligence

hoooops · 10/11/2022 16:22

Yeah, you go ahead and cheerlead for the poster that had to be reported for posting pictures mocking H and insinuating he had a learning disability.

If you are talking about this thread, that was croque not milti, so you may now untwist your knickers.

CPL593H · 10/11/2022 16:25

I've been critical of some of Harry's actions but not being particularly academic does not mean you are ND or have a learning disability or are actually "thick" at all. That was a throwaway word Diana (who I don't think was thick or dim either) used about herself and Harry, not an in depth psychological assessment.

I have occasionally wondered if Gordonstoun would have been a better fit for Harry's undoubted strengths. He might also have been able to develop more easily away from comparisons with William which I think inevitably happens with siblings at the same school (even if that school is Bash Street Comp)

mrschocolatte · 10/11/2022 16:33

@hoooops Nope it was definitely milti at the start of this thread. I could give you exact exact dates and times but I can’t be arsed on account of my knickers being twisted.

mrschocolatte · 10/11/2022 16:34

@milti it wasn’t what you said. It was the shitty picture you posted insinuating he had a learning disability.

milti · 10/11/2022 17:54

The one that said Henry - stories from the village idiot ? What does that have to do with LD?

milti · 10/11/2022 18:29

That’s your own twisted interpretation mrs chocowatty

CPL593H · 10/11/2022 18:49

This is why I gave up with any threads involving Harry and Meghan. It comes down to 2 entrenched camps throwing accusations and insults at each other and any real discussion is impossible.

milti · 10/11/2022 19:07

And yet here you are

milti · 10/11/2022 19:09

Just popping in to say you won’t be saying anything - weird logic - do you pop in the library to say you won’t be borrowing any books ? 😂

milti · 10/11/2022 19:12

Or rock up at the vets perhaps and tell them you have no pets 😂

or the docs to tell them you’re super healthy and don’t need to see them 😃

un be leeee vable

Their award shows 😅😅😅 so true - they are so self congratulatory 🤴 good way of putting it. I guess I'd you keep receiving "awards" someone will start believing it
