Prince Harry's Memoir: A World Publishing Phenomenon

MrsMaxDeWinter · 27/10/2022 12:41

There will likely be several bashing threads on Harry's memoir before it is published, but I am interested in discussing with anyone who is interested in the very interesting marketing choices of the publishers and their approach.

English language editions of SPARE will be published on 10 January 2023 in EIGHT territories: the US, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa and Canada.

The book will also be published in translation in 15 additional languages:

SPANISH Plaza & Janés/Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial
GERMAN Penguin Verlag/Penguin Random House Verlagsgruppe GmbH, PORTUGUESE BRAZIL Objetiva/Grupo Companhia das Letras
PORTUGUESE PORTUGAL Objectiva/Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial, SIMPLIFIED CHINESE Penguin Random House China
DANISH Politikens Forlag
DUTCH Hollands Diep, an imprint of Overamstel
FINNISH Otava Publishing Company Ltd
FRENCH Éditions Fayard
GREEK Pedio Books
HUNGARIAN Corvina Kiadó
ITALIAN Mondadori,
POLISH Wydawnictwo Marginesy,
ROMANIAN Nemira Publishing House,
SWEDISH Albert Bonniers Förlag.

This is absolutely sensational as it means it will be simultaneously published in 23 territories on the same day.

There are not many books where simultaneous release occurs in different markets. From this, I would say that the book will more than earn its advance, just from the foreign sales alone.

They also chose a banger of a title as it puts focus on the troubling notion of the Spare in a system based on primogeniture, and one that imbues both intrinsic and extrinsic value based on a person's birth order.

Imagine growing up knowing that no matter how loved you may be, your constitutional role is ultimately to be the spare to the heir.

Can't wait to read it!

I think they should suffer each other for a while longer yet 😂😂😂😂

CathyorClaire · 05/11/2022 20:58

I remember people swearing up and down, they would leave them alone if they paid off Frogmore

The repayment that magically got to include eighteen months 'market rent' on top without increasing?

Unlike them to miss an opportunity to turn a dime. There surely has to be a market for seeds to a money tree.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/11/2022 21:10

It seems to me if a person were truly happy in their own relationship they wouldn’t be wishing the demise of another

I very much agree, Marulatree. It's one thing to have views about this going the distance and quite another to use what Roussette correctly called glee about it, especially where there are children involved

FWIW I'm another who hopes they're happy, just as with anyone else. I'm not sure that some of their behaviour signals people who are happy, but the consequences of their choices are for them to address, and for myself I'd rather focus on what they actually say and do than some imagined story behind it

I think they will probably maintain the whole farce for a few more years to 'prove' that they are love's young dream (well, young in their own estimation) and financially milk it until they have pocketed the last cent available. Then there will be a story that is the equivalent of a sugar coma about how wonderful things are and then, dramatically and blindsiding their hated tabloids, we will find out that they have actually split up six months ago. That is the crazy town drill these days. Of course, they will both then compete against one another for the money to be made afterwards but it is clear that the winner will be the one who is more motivated by money out of the two of them. 😉

Good read - they still have a few more years of each other but it is proven neither of them has much resilience so it will get tougher and tougher with real life situations.

derxa · 05/11/2022 22:46

I certainly don't want them to split up at all for the sake of their children. I think they're fine together. Doesn't mean I like them.

You don't have to like them. It's your prerogative.
However some of these posts on here are horrible. I mean...calling someone's marriage 'a farce'. I wonder how some posters would react to their marriages/partnerships being called that ?

Unpleasant

Oh, the irony!😂

@Roussette

As you happily posted a link to hello magazine In a previous thread declaring William and Kate had broken up, it seems incredibly hypocritical for you to say anything about any poster commenting on anyones marriage

it was an old Hello article, you had linked to (about them breaking up while in college but in your rush to post you didn’t read it) so posted it as if it was current. Some might have found it rather gleeful.

I’ve called you out in this before, and while you originally said you didn’t, you had to concede due to the number of posters who remembered the post

Theres a whole thread calling w&k’s marriage a farce, but clearly that’s fine by you.

Agree especially the double standards - I remember the post. Not surprised though

Croque · 06/11/2022 09:49

Ah-ha, well remembered 😂

Readinginthesun · 06/11/2022 09:59

There was also a thread recently from a poster claiming Catherine wasn’t wearing her wedding ring ( she was) and the obvious inference was that the marriage was over .
Imagine the outrage from certain posters if anyone posted such a thread about the sainted Meghan !
The hypocrisy on this board is breathtaking.

ajandjjmum · 06/11/2022 10:04

And then the OP of that thread blamed everyone for pointing out her (deliberate?) error as disablism, as she has poor eyesight - which clearly no-one knew! It does get a little pathetic at times.

And I apologised for this. So just stop labouring this point repeatedly

Who is the 'lady saviour '? No idea

And 'ohnonevermind' ....there might be threads calling w&k's marriage a farce. I have not said that ever, nor contributed to that idea

One post by me versus endless nasty speculation about H&m's marriage. And him meeting a 'dim aristocrat' when Meghan's toast

Hardly the same but hey ho. You posters think you've scored one over on me. I know different

Rousette you are just so relentlessly aggressive. I wish you would wind it back in a bit.

Ohnonevermind · 06/11/2022 12:09

You have posted about W&K’s marriage, about them splitting (in error). So I suggest you have more than ‘contributed to that idea’

I suggest you think more carefully when making lofty pronouncements, as they say people in greenhouses can’t throw stones

Croque · 06/11/2022 12:31

It is tyrannical to try to cancel diversity of opinion. Cancel culture is dangerous because it progresses from cancelling mere opinions to cancelling other living beings. Like Bogart. 🐕

Marulatree · 06/11/2022 12:43

An opponent of cancel culture? That’s ironic given the numerous comments you endorse (and, indeed, pen yourself) that are critical of Prince Harry’s decision to publish his memoir. I guess free speech must have its limits when it’s something you don’t want to hear – or in this case, read.

I have never said that.

I'm really looking forward to reading 'his' memoir ☝

CoastalWave · 06/11/2022 12:56

Meh.

She's a 40 something middle aged woman behaving like an immature 20 something kid.

He's ginger with a chip on his shoulder.

Wouldn't believe a bloody word of it and no, I won't be paying out £28 to read his nonsense. Pair of them need to quietly go away. Literally - WHO sells out their family in public?!

Thisisnotalife · 06/11/2022 12:56

Let’s talk about the bullies.

And no, Meghan Markle is not one of them.

I haven’t seen anything that would make me believe that somehow the Black woman somehow successfully “bullied” the white upperclass staff or members of the RF. Something very wrong in that picture.

Croque · 06/11/2022 13:00

🙄

Ohnonevermind · 06/11/2022 13:13

MM was a boss, in a position of power bullying staff, Colour has nothing to do with it.

What do you mean ‘the white upper class staff’? Do you believe the staff are upper class? Don’t be ridiculous.
