Unpopular Opinion - William and Kate

1000 replies

EdaYildiz · 13/10/2022 21:27

Don't come at me, I'm sharing my unpopular opinion because I want to know what you all think but just don't see a spark between William & Kate.

Loved them since the day they starting dating way back when they were undergrads at St Andrews but I just don't see their connection in pictures and it seems a little forced when she has her hand on his back or when they do hold hands.

I don't expect them to hold hands and snog because I know they're mostly photographed whilst they're working but he looks bored and she looks like she's trying her best.

Does anyone agree with me?

I'm not obsessed by anything. What a strangely personal post directed at me.

Yes I read the media, as do you. As for who 'my darlings' are...seriously derxa, just stop.

I was trying to have a reasonable conversation with you, about George. It's best if I stop trying obviously

I apologise. I'm grumpy tonight. I hope only for the best for W&K's and H&M's children. Who knows what will happen

You spend a hell of a lot of time on 'silly' people

They're fascinating and silly

That's ok 😊 and I won't call you a casserole 🤣🤣

Their flaws make them interesting. I’m curious why people can’t see the flaws, but then again Trump fans are much the same.

I can see their flaws. All of us have flaws. They aren't perfect, no one is

Ohnonevermind · 31/10/2022 21:46

@Roussette

i know, we could be here for another 40 years and not change each other’s minds

Ditto trying to change Trump fans - I think he’s back on Twitter today

Novella4 · 31/10/2022 21:47

Hmm
So people who are interested to hear Harry's story are like Trump fans?
Right....
And royalists ? Who are they to be aligned with ?

Not sure how 'Trump fans' are likened to those who don't find Meghan and Harry abhorrent

Ohnonevermind · 31/10/2022 21:52

@Novella4

We all see the same things but assess it differently, based on our own personality experiences/moral codes.

you can’t convince me that H&M are Saints and I can’t convince you they are sinners.

Ditto, I have been suprised to meet some people who don’t have horns who think Trump is great

Should we all walk away from each other , Mumsnet traffic volumes would plummet 🤣

Why such extremes? They're not saints by any stretch of the imagination

Ohnonevermind · 31/10/2022 21:57

@Roussette

there seems little middle ground allowed on these threads.

Novella4 · 31/10/2022 21:59

@Ohnonevermind
Yes I think you need to back away from your analogy .

And I've never claimed that Harry and Meghan are saints.
I had little to no interest in them until they left the royals.

Anyway - back to mindthegap's brilliant post. If anyone reading hasn't seen it , it's at 10.49 this morning .
Great summary of the PR battle

The point is surely that none of us know for sure what the truth is do we? A version of the truth will come out in time but the entire Royal shebang is one large PR exercise isn't it? And I think the men in grey suits know that if Wills and Kate were to split, that would probably be the end.

On a personal level, I hope they are happy of course, and I like them and wouldn't ever wish a young family like that to break up. I just think we all need to sit down and have a collective think about why it is necessary to have this projection of the "perfect" family at the heart of our society? Why do we need it?

What this thread demonstrates is that some people desperately want to buy in to the romance of the televised weddings and the Queen's long marriage, and I don't know for sure of course but I think the reality is probably different to our perception. Their culture is different to ours. Aristocrats who are as rich as Croesus are probably some of the few people left in the uk who have the resources and the odd spare house in which to conduct a long running affair without being caught, and the obliging friends to cover it up. (Well, along with long distance lorry drivers and the military😀. )

And imho this fundamental deception is what led to the strong emotions over the whole Charles v Diana debacle. Not that the public were outraged by the affairs or infidelity, but the fact that the real situation was the inverse of what the giant Buckingham Palace PR machine was projecting. The public are invited to join in celebrating fairytale weddings and new births, but the shutters come down when there are disputes and affairs.

Personally I think it's all too anachronistic in 2022 and on a practical level it's virtually impossible to maintain the PR illusion of the "perfect" family in the day of mobile phones and paparazzi without the cracks showing. It also puts an impossible psychological strain on the people involved.

Time to end the charade I say! Let young children grow up away from the cameras. Let marriages flourish or flounder without press intrusion and impossible pressure and strain. We can still have wonderful pomp and ceremony thanks to our fantastic military forces and historic buildings. Let's release the RF from their goldfish bowls and establish a republic where enormous wealth and huge privilege at the heart of the nation are not held up to be all that is desirable and good.

[How on earth do you reconcile being as rich as Croesus and head of the Church of England anyway?]

Something you would have never said about the late Queen as she rose above all of this and why he is sowing the seeds of his own destruction ultimately.

Oh give up. You're praising the Queen. 😆😆

HaveYouSeenNancy · 01/11/2022 08:52

I've recently (since HMQ's funeral) become fascinated with the royal family; the history, the quarrels, the dynamics with all the children/cousins. I think the pp's view that we want to 'believe the dream' is true. I want to believe that W and C have a happy, affectionate marriage because they both appear to be lovely people with happy adorable children. If either of them aren't happy then they're very good actors.

Novella4 · 01/11/2022 09:00

@HaveYouSeenNancy
Lol good try

That wasn't what mindthegap said .
She said it a PR created dream ( whispers : it's not real...)

But enjoy if that's what you need
The media will turn soon enough

Morestrangethings · 02/11/2022 03:44

Milbeycrone I do think you might be right when you say that Diana was possibly motivated ‘to air her dirty laundry’ to ensure she didn’t lose her children to their father’s guardianship, as had happened to her mother

I also think that some public figures do this to get their side of the story out. They experience their stories being written by others - media, unnamed sources, sometimes people who they thought loyal to them, social media etc. - eg the Diana interview. Even Charles gave an interview around that time, I believe - but I haven’t seen it.
