Presumably as this will coincide with the May Day bank holiday week? Going to be a busy time in London.

And it’s Archie’s 4th birthday

PolkaDotMankini · 11/10/2022 18:20

DD wants to camp out overnight to get a good spot. I hope it's a warm night!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/10/2022 18:24

Oldest crowned monarch ever, makes you wonder why queen Liz was so determined to hold onto the job

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/10/2022 18:24

She was a stubborn taurus

It seems a bit odd to choose that Saturday if they want to coincide with bank holiday weekend, because the Bank Holiday is on the 1st.

ajandjjmum · 11/10/2022 19:12

I suppose it's just one week that's disrupted though.

Thank god it's a Saturday.

Small business owners across the UK are sighing in relief - including me.

EasterIssland · 11/10/2022 19:13

Bbc says they might move the BH. If they do they’d better announce it soon

FluffyPJs · 11/10/2022 19:14

I hope they don't move the bank holiday! It's my 50th on April 30th and we have booked a weekend away for the bank holiday weekend.

Good chance IMO that they will move the bank holiday from Monday 1st to Friday 5th May. That's what they've done before for royal events.
The Tories hate the May Day holiday anyway, any attempt to highjack it for something more "establishment"!

Dollydea · 11/10/2022 19:20

Why would they move the BH if it's just a 1 hour ceremony on a Saturday? Surely it won't warrant a bank holiday? it's not a 3 day celebration like the jubilees.

AnyFucker · 11/10/2022 19:22

The Tories hate the May Day holiday anyway

How do you work that out ?

Because it's for International Labour Day?

Runnerduck34 · 11/10/2022 19:32

Well I'm really disappointed it looks like we won't be getting an extra bank holiday!
It's about the only thing the royal family are good for, the occasional extra bank holiday and the pomp and pageantry of a big royal event. Looks like we will be short changed on both counts!

CaveMum · 11/10/2022 19:39

Bugger! BIL is getting married that day so I won’t get to veg in front of the tv watching it! On the upside if they do make the Friday a bank holiday at least I won’t have to book a day off work or pull the kids out of school to travel to the wedding!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/10/2022 18:24

because it wasn't a job for her, it was a lifetime responsibility

NCAutumn · 11/10/2022 19:49

I think they'll move the bank holiday to the Friday, pretty sure we had less notice last time they did it. It works for us because our schools are closed on the Thursday for polling day so it'll be a nice long weekend!

AnApparitionQuipped · 11/10/2022 19:52

Surprised they've gone for May, not June. Choice of Saturday tends to suggest no Bank Holiday. Someone should have slipped the Coronation Bank Holiday in during the Proclamation when Charlie was distractedly saying 'approved' to everything!

Maireas · 11/10/2022 19:54

There's already the Trooping of the Colour in June, so it makes sense not to have it too close together.

EndlessMagpies · 11/10/2022 19:57

buggeredmyleg · 11/10/2022 19:28

Not in the UK it isn't.

I think you'll find it goes back a good few thousand years before that.

thebellagio · 11/10/2022 20:01

I’m surprised they’ve chosen Archie’s birthday for the date.

im intrigued as to what to expect. It’s exciting to see history in action

buggeredmyleg · 11/10/2022 20:04

@EndlessMagpies my memory was that it was brought in as an official bank holiday by Michael Foot in the 1980s ? I'm off to google now (I do know mayday is a historic day and has been for thousands of years, but the question was why the Tories hated it?)

dodobookends · 11/10/2022 20:05

I suspect it will be a considerably scaled-back version, and not on the scale of QEII's coronation.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 11/10/2022 20:06

My brothers birthday. Mine is on same day Queen was born

LibbyL92 · 11/10/2022 20:11

My birthday! I hope we get a bank holiday on the Friday!
