Presumably as this will coincide with the May Day bank holiday week? Going to be a busy time in London.

Ah, a bunch of people on here were predicting May! Enough time to prepare, not so much time that they are letting things drag on unnecessarily, and the driest month of the year.

user1477391263 · 13/10/2022 04:11

Dear God, who cares if it's Archie's birthday? Most of us have at least one of our birthdays on the day of some other event that's taking place in the family.

user1477391263 · 13/10/2022 04:14

I expect there will be some fuss on MN from certain quarters. Some people on here are really peculiar about birthdays (example: the ones who, as adults, are STILL fuming about having a Christmas birthday. "I never get a birthday that's all about me, and nobody ever makes me feel truly special!!" Get a grip!)

Is it not highly likely they would have checked with Harry?

I doubt they checked with Harry!

It’s a strange decision in one way but must have been made with BHW in mind.

It's actually pretty pathetic when a whole grown man who is a King of a country competes with a 4 year old's Birthday.

an event such as the coronation, will require many different individuals and organisations involved. Therefore, a clash of a child's birthday is pretty irrelevant. The government, COE and RF are all consulted.

rocketfromthecrypt · 13/10/2022 05:47

I very much doubt the birthday of one grandchild who lives thousands of miles away was on anyone's minds when planning a big state occasion. Apparently the coronation is traditionally on the first Saturday of the month. It's got absolutely nothing to do with Archie, for good or for ill.

rocketfromthecrypt · 13/10/2022 05:51

NB I haven't checked the Saturday point so could be wrong, but it does make sense if he's aiming for a short ceremony and minimal disruption.

I suspect it will be a considerably scaled-back version, and not on the scale of QEII's coronation.

Yeah I don't think Charles would look as good in the dress.

user1477391263 · 13/10/2022 06:26

It's the UK so winter is out, autumn and early spring are dicey, August is surprisingly rainy most years (or there could be another heat wave like last year) plus it would mess with people's holidays, June and July have kids' exams going on.

That leaves, like, April and May.

If they want a weekend date they have few days to play with, and things like ensuring security and ensuring the presence of important people take priority.

Nevertheless, I'm sure the Sussex stans are already getting the outrage bullhorn going and complaining that Archie is being disrespected because the entire day won't be spent worshipping at the birthday shrine or something.

Jpoflow · 13/10/2022 06:30

The 6th May is also the day that George V, founder of the House of Windsor l, became king.

Agree. I think you would have to be self absorbed and paranoid to an unhealthy degree to imagine that this was the reason if you were that child's parent.

Can I ask why it's ok for said child's actual parent to play polo on his birthday though? Presumably Nacho and the rest of the polo community weren't jealous and pathetic and attempting to take the focus off young Archie's Special Day?

rocketfromthecrypt · 13/10/2022 07:17

It's just being used as another excuse to kick the royal family by some particularly rabid factions of the Sussex fandom. If they'd have chosen a weekday it would have been criticised because Archie would have to miss school or something.

Meltingsocks · 13/10/2022 07:29

Beyond selfish of Charles Windsor to have us pay for ANOTHER event. Self indulgent.

Harry played polo on Archie's birthday this year.

Maybe it's why it's only an hour long, so they can all troop back to Frogmore for pass the parcel and musical chairs later?

Great image- Charles-still in his coronation outfit racing the kids to a chair

smilesy · 13/10/2022 07:34

Do we know that the 6th is actually Archie’s birthday anyway? Given the obfuscation around his birth….😂😂

(I’m joking by the way, for the hard of humour)

Blip · 13/10/2022 21:09

I don't think Charles is usually invited to the birthdays of Harry's children so not really a diary clash.

whenwillthemadnessend · 13/10/2022 21:18

Is this definitely the date. Not seen anything in the news.

smilesy · 13/10/2022 21:22

Not sure why it had to be on Archie's birthday? I'd be a bit annoyed if I were his parents tbh.

They're permanently annoyed anyway.

SenecaFallsRedux · 17/10/2022 14:31

Princess Anne was married the first time on Charles's birthday. Too bad she didn't have MN around at the time to ask "AIBU to steal my brother's limelight on his 25th birthday by having a big church wedding with only the immediate country invited?"

True!
I remember it well. We got the day off school. There were strikes and powercuts and it was such a miserable November. School was cold and we had cold food. The wedding was like a fairytale in comparison!

SensGirl88 · 12/02/2023 06:39

I'll be travelling in for the event. Any one here have any idea how far in advance folks usually start camping out for royal events? I'd like to get a spot on the mall close enough to view the procession and then view them on the balcony. Before anyone says, yes, I know, it's a better idea to watch on tv but been there, done that, haha.

SquirmOfEels · 12/02/2023 08:17

People will camp for a day or two before the big Royal processions.

I think it might be worth getting ready to go, and then heading off when you see first reports of campers arriving
