The last thread filled up during a particularly chatty morning.

I think there's an important point from Valentine Low's book - what protections do people who work for the royal family have if they're being bullied by a member of the family? That seems to have been the problem with Harry and Meghan - there was nowhere for employees to turn to because HR only deals with other employees, not senior royals. It doesn't seem like the Queen was able to rein Andrew's behaviour in and people just had to put up with it.

Maireas · 01/10/2022 11:19

I'm not arguing with you about that, @SherilynnFine . Just challenging the outdated and offensive remarks which attack Kate on this thread.
I would challenge such about Meghan.
What was it Meghan said in the OW interview? You don't have to attack Kate to defend her or vice versa (I paraphrase).

Jibbajabba1 · 01/10/2022 11:23

@GlorianaCervixia
Good question! Perhaps that’s why the palace wants to bury the report

notanotheroneagain · 01/10/2022 11:25

SallyLockheart · 01/10/2022 11:04

and yet Meghan has always implied that she was the only one who got bad press and wasn't protected by the palace.

She never said she is the only one.

But you are well aware that Andrew is protected and that people were told to leave Sophie alone and statements issued to refute botox, hair extensions etc. Yet, they let the media have run shod over MM without protestation.

In fact, it would seem the palace were the ones feeding negative stories to the press about MM. Seems to me that MM was the one getting bullied here.

One time she said, just tell them, tell them that Archie is not going to be prince or get protection. therefore he is not part of this, showing him to the media after birth. They did no such thing, and let the media and people go hard on her for not showing us Harry after birth.

100 per cent agree.

My comment was only to highlight the hypocrisy of the reaction to the very mild criticism of Kate, compared to the many, many comments that are speculative at best about Meghan, but that go unchallenged.

Now back to the book!

'As we have seen however, this wasn’t something she was particularly interested in doing at all. She in fact valued the opportunity to earn a private income more highly.'

Conjecture; not fact.

Not only is it conjecture, it also does not ring true.

She seemed very interested in what she was doing and her projects we're result driven too. The Smartwork capsule quickly sold out and raised a lot of money for the charity. The same with the Disney VoiceOver, the bakery and the Cookbook. All much needed funds.

And I dare say, for someone there for a short while, she seems to have brought in a lot of revenue for charities that others with years on did not even come close to (instead some were closed/ branches not visited etc.).

I guess it upsets some people, because it made the complacency in others glaringly clear.

No, not conjecture at all. Harry and Meghan’s own words on their own website from when they announced they were stepping back from being Senior Royals. They expressly said they valued the opportunity to earn a private income as they were currently prohibited from doing so.

Amusing you think it reflects badly on them though, when you think it’s my “conjecture”.

SherilynnFine · 01/10/2022 11:30

@notanotheroneagain

Wow, those headlines are something else. I knew it was bad, but it clearly looks like the briefing against Meghan was coming from within the Palace itself. What a nest of vipers!

What dreadful articles from the DM about Kate. Ageist and sexist crap.
No need to go along with it on here, though.
Also it shows that the DM rip loads of women apart, not just Meghan, which adds to how vile it is.

Daily Mail is a ghastly rag.
Every female who is a member of the RF by marrying into it, or a girlfriend of a Royal is subjected to bitchy scrutiny.
Camilla , Fergie, Diana, Catherine, Meghan-
All were /are in the firing line of that paper.

To my mind, the most cringe making were the Camillagate tapes-
Charles &Camilla showed themselves well suited in terms of humour but the embarrassment factor would be huge for both her and Charles.

Both rose above it.

notanotheroneagain · 01/10/2022 11:40

@Serenster
You are always stuck on this point. When it has been pointed out to you that their website, does not go into details of they 'why's' they want to earn their own money.
Common sense says the media and public felt ownership of them due to 'taxpayer' funding. They were given hell about Frogmore, not showing Archie and all sorts of things. The 'we are paying for them' was always the excuse for probing into their lives.

Does not take a genius.

I wonder if VL book covers that. Why didn't he give us excepts on that.

Regarding Sophie , this is not the first time I have seen posters saying the Palace issued statements protecting her . I am a fairly avid Royal reader but cannot recall anything like that .
If someone is willing to post links , that would be great.

jeffgoldblum · 01/10/2022 11:50

Never mind the privileged millionaires, my sympathy is limited to the poor staff being bullied behind closed doors!
Why don't they count?

Maireas · 01/10/2022 11:52

When have the Palace refuted Sophie's use of botox or hair extensions?
Can you provide a link?
The only one I know of was a cosmetic business using Kate's name to promote their treatments and the Palace told them to stop.

We all state and agree on these thread - (assume that you do to) - that SM and tabloid coverage about MM is all shit, lies and click bait - but you are happy to present SM and tabloid shit, lies and clickbait as truth to bolster, defend and position and your own argument about other members of the RF…..

No integrity or credibility there for you I’m afraid.

LaMarschallin · 01/10/2022 11:57

Just catching up.
I think maranella has had a bit of a hard time about her comment about the "Fab Four mental health" thing. It didn't sound that bad to me, although I appreciate that comparing someone very pregnant with someone who isn't style-wise will rarely come down in favour of the mother-to-be.
Fwiw (nothing), I've always thought Kate has the better figure and Meghan the prettier face. Although they're both gorgeous. So, imo, Meghan will have the advantage if seated.
And will perform better in front of a camera; she was in the wrong job for years if she couldn't.

LaMarschallin · 01/10/2022 12:02

Coucous

Ha! how do you even sleep at night?

Don't know about anybody else, but sometimes, instead of during the day like now, I read several days worth of posts on the thread at bedtime; that helps Grin

Readinginthesun · 01/10/2022 12:02

Am I right in saying there have been 4 excerpts ? Are there any more ?

jeffgoldblum · 01/10/2022 12:03

Think so @Readinginthesun ? , I've checked nothing new at the mo!

GlorianaCervixia · 01/10/2022 12:05

I think this is the Fab Four conversation being discussed:

When I watch it I can hear that Kate is a little breathless, as you'd expect being heavily pregnant. Meghan speaks very confidently, as she usually does.

shedwithivy · 01/10/2022 12:10

Since this thread is about the revelations in the courtiers book, surely the more relevant comparison is what Kate is like to work for compared to Meghan, her dress sense and public speaking style less so.

However charismatic and beautiful Meghan is, it doesn't make her an asset to the RF if she can't be decent to people in private.

GlorianaCervixia · 01/10/2022 12:11

In this clip from a year earlier, also talking about mental health, Kate seems much more confident and comfortable

SherilynnFine · 01/10/2022 12:16

I really liked that clip of the four of them together. The clip highlights Meghan's undeniable charisma but the longer conversation on You Tube has them all making great contributions.William comes across as very thoughtful and committed.

I am so sad for them all, what a powerhouse they could have been, working together.

ShamedBySiri · 01/10/2022 12:27

@oakleaffy My friend does love her job and yes, discretion and diplomacy are her middle names. She has nothing but respect and loyalty for The King, and she wouldn't have that regard unless it was earned.
I will say, if she has complaints it is usually directed at HR and may involve unpaid overtime. The whole Monarchy involves lots of swans swimming serenely whilst paddling furiously and that is why events like The Queen's funeral are faultlessly executed. The price of perfectionism is coming home and putting supper on before checking emails and making last minute adjustments as necessary. A lot of that has nothing to do with KC and everything to do with the business. She still has boundaries and definitely doesn't get multiple texts/calls/emails out of hours but the need for last minute rearrangements arises and is out of control of any of the staff or family, ie relating to the public.

And before anyone jumps up to decry the treatment of staff I would say that is the price you pay for certain types of jobs.

DD has just landed her first serious post graduation job. A 2 1/2 year contract involving a training period and corporate placements. Conditions she has agreed to include:
The training costs £15,000 and she will be liable to repay it if she drops out during the period.
Unpaid overtime as required.
Annual leave allocated or cancelled at the discretion of the company.
Overseas travel as and when required.

She took advice about the contract and the general advice is, if you want to climb that ladder you have to suck it up at this stage.

HannaHanna · 01/10/2022 12:30

I never can understand why Kate and Meghan should be continually compared to one another.

Just on this thread we have their shapes, their faces, their style, their speaking capabilities and beyond.

They are not livestock and this isn’t a county fair.

If you pretend to like either of these women then consider that it’s only contributing to the pressure on them.
