Removing E:R from Harry’s Uniform

I am certainly not one of H&M’s fans but I think that for someone to actually remove the ER initials from his military uniform for the vigil was beyond petty.

The decision was made to allow him to wear a military uniform, fine, Andrew was also given permission but to take the time and trouble to remove the Queen’s initials from the epaulettes was, I think, really childish. I know he has chosen to not be a working Royal but the initals were left on Andrew’s epaulettes so why were Harry’s removed?

Apart from anything else, this will just add grist to the mill of H&M’s litany of complaints but for once, I think they’d be justified in being upset by this.

Expect I’ll be flamed for this and there are many more important things going on in the world but I do think this was a snotty thing to do to Harry.

I imagine that a valet somewhere tasked with looking after the garment just followed the rule book. I can't imagine Harry's many uniforms have been in California with him.

It's this! Of course it is. I have reason to know this but I don't want to say how as I have been scoffed at on such threads before. Dear lord the whinging from this man just never ceases. I loved and respected QE but all this drama from him and his wife is making me wish this week away so they fly off back to California and we will at least have some breaks from their moaning!

Sick of Harry trying to make everything about him

Sickened by Andrew being retained by mummy as her ADC, given what he's clearly done as Epstein's ADC.

God yes. The whole Andrew adoration thing - was that QE2’s way of making it up to the spoilt shit for only being the spare? At least Harry isn’t Andrew.

CPL593H · 18/09/2022 16:05

I thought it was very striking and diplomatic that William and Harry both wore the same uniform (Blues and Royals No 1) last night, when William is entitled to eg Colonel Irish Guards.

A real shame that the pot is now being stirred about the ER and frankly, I do entirely blame the media for disseminating this tosh, whether it comes from an inside source or not. Tomorrow is an event of great historical and ceremonial significance for this country as well the family burying a loved one and there shouldn't be the distraction of such soap opera trivia.

Wherever this leaked from, I wish the DM would just ignore it.
It's helping no one.

I think it was in the Times and the Telegraph?

I'm with you OP. Whoever choose to do that was either an utter jobsworth or vindictive. Obviously losing the initials of his grandmother from the uniform of the very person he is mourning was a horrible thing to have to suffer. I am no H and M fan but to me that was unacceptable and petty. Even if its not absolute protocol it wouldn't have harmed anything to have left them on.

It's not about being a "jobsworth" 🙄 at all. It's about knowing your job and the protocol and details associated with it absolutely inside out. Military valets have to know all this stuff and it is second nature to them. It wouldn't occur to them to question it. Harry just wants to tweak at and bend the rules to make himself feel better. He is being ridiculous. Those of you feeling sorry for him may not like or agree with how these things are done, because you are not from that background but it's just how it is and has been for 100s of years!

Andrew's statement read like performative grief to me - as he's been formally sidelined, feeling the need to emphasise his personal closeness to the Queen and her personal belief that he was innocent of any wrong doing.

Agree with this and it seems clear he is using this time for his own ends, where he thinks if he shows what a good and loyal son and servant of the crown he is then the public might warm back up to him. No chance.

He's absolutely deluded, isn't he?

I completely agree. It’s just more bullshit being fabricated by the media. The press do not like Harry because he called them out about the treatment of his mother and then his wife. I don’t think that H &M made great choice going on Oprah and I suspect that it was true there was racism at the palace plus no doubt classicism too. But it’s sad how people just assume that it has actually come from Harry himself or the palace

Ikr!

I'm tempted to ask how deluded can a person be?

But I think that a certain interview covers that very well!

I did not say otherwise. The question was around protocol.

Yes, and it isn't normal protocol for the monarch's grandchildren to do the vigil either. But they did.

When it comes to uniform, the King can decide because - well, he's the King.

Maireas · 18/09/2022 16:18

I agree, @diddl - and his former wife and his two daughters appear to support him as well, the latter even lobbying Charles for him to have a role.
It really is extraordinary.

notimagain · 18/09/2022 16:20

Not sure what the situation is these days but in my era we had to purchase our own best/dress uniform( RAF officer, no.1s in my case)...as a result we kept them on leaving. Everything else went back to stores.

SilverLiningPlaybook · 18/09/2022 16:22

I‘m struck that many of the tributes to the Queen mention her wisdom, insight and great advice. Yet she didn’t seem to be able to help support or advise Diana at all. It’s strange. Even when Diana begged her for help, she turned away.

MrsMitford3 · 18/09/2022 16:22

I saw pics of harry's wedding and he didn't have it on his uniform then.

I don't like PH and think he's a spoilt man-child but i find this incredibly petty and spiteful. It also gives him and his equally awful wife more whinge fodder to sell when they go back to the states!

All the royals are spoilt. Brought up in a ‘special’ ancient family of billionaires. If you want normal unspoilt people representing the country then ditch the monarchy and get a president.

RAFOfficer · 18/09/2022 16:24

@notimagain no 1s are now issued, at least the first set, but if you need to replace or adapt them somewhere down the line (promotion, weight gain, medal ribbons…) then you pay for that. Same goes for no 5s. Not sure what you do with them when you leave though…

That was over 25 years ago, people do tend to accumulate wisdom as they get older.

Also, Diana was a deeply flawed human being who had access to many resources. The Queen was also her mother in law which put her in a difficult situation. That said, I do think the royal family treated Diana badly but they do seem to have learned since then (on the whole).

notanotheroneagain · 18/09/2022 16:27

No 'friend of the Sussexes' is speaking to Royals Nikkha. She is William's mouth piece. She is the one that disclosed about the phone call between the brothers, and when Harry answered, accused him of sharing private info - when it was her who reported on this private call to begin with.

So I would forget about the Sussexes are 'angry' or whatever, and take Harry' statement that we must concentrate on his grandma.

Many thanks for the update. As I recall it the No 1's cost best part of a months pay so good to hear common sense kicked in...

Who is Nikka? I don’t understand your post or what phone call you are referring to.

EdieLedwell · 18/09/2022 16:30

Ye Gods! This clearly an attempt to shit stir by the media and everyone eats it up like so much bread (and circuses)

He wasn't wearing it on his wedding day so he probably didn't expect to wear it last night.

I thought he looked incredibly solemn and also proud in his uniform. I think in another life he'd have stayed a career soldier.

She seems to have turned away even recently with H&M cries for help. Despite declarations of 'modernisation' and pastoral care. Nothing has changed at all.
