Removing E:R from Harry’s Uniform

I am certainly not one of H&M’s fans but I think that for someone to actually remove the ER initials from his military uniform for the vigil was beyond petty.

The decision was made to allow him to wear a military uniform, fine, Andrew was also given permission but to take the time and trouble to remove the Queen’s initials from the epaulettes was, I think, really childish. I know he has chosen to not be a working Royal but the initals were left on Andrew’s epaulettes so why were Harry’s removed?

Apart from anything else, this will just add grist to the mill of H&M’s litany of complaints but for once, I think they’d be justified in being upset by this.

Expect I’ll be flamed for this and there are many more important things going on in the world but I do think this was a snotty thing to do to Harry.

I agree it was the Opra interview which turned lots of people against them. They were making wild allegations against people who couldn’t speak out to defend themselves.

BeckyWithTheAverageHair · 19/09/2022 20:50

People turned against them long before the interview. The negative press started almost the moment they were engaged, as did the Mumsnet threads finding fault with Meghan every time as much as sneezed.

I think some people hated them (her) from the start, and think she can do no right.
Some people will defend them no matter what, and think they can do no wrong.
Some people liked her, then went off her after Oprah etc.
Some people weren’t fans, then became more sympathetic after Oprah.

And probably a whole lot in between.
Theres no monolith of opinion I don’t think.

Agreed. I saw it play out on MN.

SilverLiningPlaybook · 20/09/2022 07:33

I don’t think it’s true that people didn’t like her from the beginning. I did. There was a lot of positivity and joy around their wedding.

They blew themselves up. I do agree that the Press is now almost wholly negative, but H and M don’t help themselves by making ill thought out accusations and insinuations from across the Pond. If they had made a dignified exit and lived a quiet and happy life, they wouldn’t feature. They would have the private life they say they crave. Instead they keep on stirring the pot.

Readinginthesun · 20/09/2022 07:46

At first I thought she was fabulous and loved that Harry looked so happy .
Watched the engagement interview and thought Hmmmm a bit fake
Loved the wedding but puzzled by the fact only her mother was her only relative there .
S Africa me, me, me interview - went right off her .
Downhill from there .

Spot on.

I agree. I was so pleased from the get go but then it all went downhill.

Just look at the threads on here before and after the engagement. You might have felt like that. Lots didn't as the threads illustrate

As soon as it was announced they were together the reaction online was vicious.

There have been mad obsessive anti-M threads on here from the get go. They have simply got worse, is all.

It was awful to start with and ratcheted up ridiculously, I remember full threads about how she held Archie in a papoose some posts done up as faux concern. Then when she read a story to Archie as a baby, I was beyond shocked. The posts were VILE, criticising a Mother on a Mother's forum. They were ridiculing her, lambasting her, calling her names, talking of how damaging she was to her baby
Disgusting

Let's not pretend otherwise

I remember that. It was pretty awful. It was obvious Archie was well loved and at the young age he was he was very familiar with books and having a story read to him.

Serenster · 20/09/2022 09:07

Yes, there have been some people who have long loathed her. (I wasn’t around on MN at the time, but I understood from discussions here that many of that group left to form their own forum elsewhere?).

Equally, that is not true of everyone. As many of us on these threads stated, we started out very much supportive of and welcoming to the couple, but our opinions have changed over time. And, clearly, there are still people who vociferously support the couple. As PicturesofDogs sensibly stated, there is no monolith of opinion. Why deny that?

IrisVersicolor · 20/09/2022 09:13

Yeah people said the same about Brexit: “I wasn’t pro-Brexit to start but I am now” and that wasn’t true either.

We look for reasons to approve what we like and disapprove of what we don’t.

IrisVersicolor · 20/09/2022 09:17

Equally it is disingenuous to claim that there is no ‘monolith’ of opinion - not a very apt word but ok - when MM was, without question, on the receiving end of combined bullying in the mainstream media and social media. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Roussette · 20/09/2022 09:19

Serenster, I never said it was everyone

Yes some left to join that other awful place, and when it understandably went tits up, some came crawling back under a new name.

I'm not denying anything

I know people in real life who now strongly deny they voted for Brexit when I know for a fact they did, they told me !

Serenster · 20/09/2022 09:30

Right, so now we’re lying about our own experiences? Lovely.

I was the one who said it, how is it ‘disingenuous’?

Im talking about the opinions of people, which are varied.
Had I said that no one ever criticised or was vile to them, You’d have a point. But I didn’t.

I said basically, some love them, some hate them, some had opinions changed after the interview.
Hardly a controversial point.

It depends what social media you view as well.
Instagram comments I see are pretty much positive for them and extremely critical of the RF. Has been since the beginning, and more so now.

Facebook tends to be the other way round. Very critical of them, and abusive.

I have no skin in the game, am on neither ‘side’ so absolutely no reason for me to be disingenuous.

Also no need to be twattish about the word I used ‘no very apt but okay…’ when you clearly understood what I was saying enough to label me disingenuous 🤷‍♀️

It's true, the people who didn't like them are the same people blowing up forums every single day - most hours of the day like they get paid for it. Which is why most people think they are inherently racist - because the obsession is abnormal. Most people who liked them from the get go still like them and understand their position.

There was a lot of hate of Meghan from the start - lots of threads were closed here and even discussing her was banned because of the amount of bullying. Didn't people start forums elsewhere and plan days when they would invade MN just to trash Meghan? This was back before Oprah.
Lots of people liked her as they still do but there was lots of negativity in the press as well. LOTs!

EdieLedwell · 20/09/2022 10:22

The hate for Meghan was almost immediate.

Remember the vitriol during her pregnancy?

Coat flicking? How she held her bump? Archie was too old looking to be a newborn?

It was completely insane.

They took a private jet, the Cambridges were filmed boarding an EasyJet, followed by stories of "Thrifty Kate" buying Halloween costumes in Sainsburys.

The Sussex's made plenty of mistakes along the way, but at no point did the Palace ride to their rescue. Not. One. Time.

Because she was basically bullied out of the country by a combination of media + social media. She is on record as to that being key in the reasons for leaving.
