I've been wondering about this all week.

What do people think? Would William want that ? Would Kate?

@Farmerazza if you can't see what is wrong with asking what a poster said before being likened to Hitler - even though it has been explained to you - I think you would be advised to reflect on your own behaviour rather than insisting on telling other people how to live their lives.

MaulPerton · 22/09/2022 09:48

Sitting here all day every hour, daily, writing drivel about one person is not normal. It doesn't matter who it is. It's easy to see why someone might be accused of racism

Indeed so, which is why you need to provide evidence of the racism. Citing 'a discussion' as evidence of racism is not convincing.

themessygarden · 22/09/2022 10:09

Roussette · 22/09/2022 09:29

I'm wary about talking about racism because I'm white and therefore have not experienced it

And that is totally the right way to be derxa. To deny racism in this country exists is very wrong.
I know different from my own family, not me but one of my DDs is married to a lovely Asian guy. I know it. I hear it.
Pretending it doesn't happen apart from a couple of posts below a newspaper articles is deluded

I am certainly not denying racism exists, but some posters are regurgitating and repeating racist slurs to 'prove' that MM is and has been subject to racism.

It is totally unnecessary and I really do question the real motivation behind it.

Some posters are racist - there's no denying that. It would be easier for people to just say they are rather than hiding behind bullying another woman on the internet. Some of the behaviour here can be quite disturbing.

@Farmerazza , why do you want to know what I said? , to see if it was justified? .
I any case , what I said snd it was long ago so this won't be word for word... wasn't about Megan or Harry , although it was on one of those threads , it was about trump , a particularly unpleasant poster brought him up for reasons unknown on a h and m thread and said he was worse than hitler! .
I simply responded that although he was a complete twat , he was no way as bad as hitler , who was a sadistic murderer , apparently this made me antisemantic
A holocaust denier , hitler and snd ice supporter who wants to kill immigrants children!

jeffgoldblum · 22/09/2022 10:25

Excuse typos , I'm still annoyed!

That is shocking and I am so sorry you were subjected to that .

DFOD · 22/09/2022 10:29

All of these things can be happening at once:

  1. There is overt racism and misogyny to poc and women in specific SM, MSM and society - to all poc and all women and specifically to MM and other high profile women and poc - and this needs firm action time and time again.
  1. There is covert or internalised racism and misogyny in SM, MSM and society and we all need to learn be aware and sensitive to this - and as Michelle Obama said in ref to the race issue raised in the OW/H&M interview - this is an opportunity for a “teachable moment”

I would like to think that people on these threads are not accessing or repeating stuff from point 1 but can also be humble enough to engage and reflect with point 2.

However I have seen posters use point 1 to heavy handedly automatically close down objective scrutiny of H&M behaviours.

I see it used indiscriminately and deliberately to derail and silence.

It seems it’s often a deliberate tactic to “win” a point or discredit a poster and has nothing to do in furthering the cause of anti-oppression.

Any woman or poc is not beyond scrutiny of their behaviour just because they are a woman or a poc. There are so many cultural, political and social intersectionalities going on here it’s a worthy discussion.

jeffgoldblum · 22/09/2022 10:31

@Readinginthesun , thanks, it's one of the reasons I barely post anymore, but I feel compelled to show that there were awful posters slinging insults at the 'anti ' side as well and the insults were just as bad!

The 'Inside Meghan Markle's royal flop' article in The Spectator handles this issue quite succinctly.

Probably because some posters say she wasn't exposed to racism?

That is the motivation behind it.

jeffgoldblum · 22/09/2022 10:35

That may be true rousette, but on this thread , I haven't seen anyone say that she hasn't suffered racism . So it really shouldn't be flung at posters , Willy nilly as a means to shut down discussion.

Snog · 22/09/2022 10:36

Well as she is a POC I doubt very much that anyone on this forum thinks MM has not experienced racism, both in the USA and in the UK.
Can you actually point to any post that says this Rousette?

kokor · 22/09/2022 10:41

H&M are back home now. Any doubt that they did the right thing by leaving would be erased after the vile ways they were treated these past ten days. Bless them. I can't wait for Meghan's podcast to resume and Harry's memoir to be released.

Who was that post addressed to? It came after mine, but I have never posted anything negative about Meghan so I'm worried people might think it's aimed at me.

Maybe I have missed it, and I could have, but I have not read anywhere on this forum that she has not experienced racism.

As I said, those so called 'pro' Meghan supporters regurgitating racist slurs, word for word, as a motivation to prove she has, is what I find offensive.

Keep the slurs to the other platforms of which most of us here probably would never even consider trawling through.

smilesy · 20/09/2022 21:56

i don’t begrudge her it but just pointing out that comparing her dress from 12 years ago to Meghan’s this week is silly, out of context and wrong

I believe the comparison was between Catherine’s £385 dress worn on her engagement, and Meghan’s £66,000 dress worn on her engagement. Not one worn this week.

Exactly.

And the comparison was not with a piece of jewellery she borrowed for a high profile occasion.

I've been on these threads a long time and yes I have seen that. The only option then is to show how she has experienced it... unsavoury though it might be to you.

I have better things to do than trawl through upwards of 400 threads to provide an example to you. Believe it or believe it not, it's up to you.

Maybe not on this thread, I didn't know we were only referring to this thread??
I thought we were talking in general.

Well obviously I won't be wasting my own time looking for these examples because I don't think they even exist.

OK I'm lying. Got it.

ThighMistress · 22/09/2022 11:22

Can you imagine MN if it had existed at the time of Wallis Simpson? The threads !

Meghan’s “crime” is not being a PoC but being a Person of Arrogance. Some posters refuse to acknowledge how popular she was at the time of her and Harry’s wedding, and how things went downhill starting from the baby shower and then went pear-shaped when they went off to Find Freedom. In fact they would have still been quite popular if they had actually wanted to step back and live well but quietly.

Samcro · 22/09/2022 11:35

the posts you are asking Roussette to look for most likely don't exist now as they would have either been deleted or the thread would have been.(I hope)
its a good way to shut down debate. get a post or thread deleted.

I do wish these threads wouldn't be so them and us. why can't people not hate M and just be somewhere in the middle.
jumping on Roussette seems like sport for some posters and is childish and tiresome.

Yes it's really childish all this "who do you hate? Meghan or Kate?" Most people don't love or hate either of them, because we don't know them.
We might find one or other more relatable. That doesn't mean we're not 'allowed' to like or feel neutral towards the other.
