Why are H&M "less important" now?

Let's not make this a bashing thread!
But in another thread yesterday it occured to me that the way I see it, I just get the sense that with the queens death they almost drop a rank. But that doesnt make sense? If anything shouldn't they now feel more important? Now that her majesty has gone it just feels like they become more distant somehow. Could it be to do with the passing of a generation, so they are no longer "the youth"?

By the way this isnt based on any facts or anything I've read, just a feeling on it. Can anyone explain? Am I right or wrong?

@TrashyPanda was it Edward who had a late afternoon wedding with everyone in evening wear?

Honestly I don't believe Harry and Meghan want anything smaller than they got.

Yes, I think it was.

doing their own thing - and quite right, as it was their wedding

strawberriesarenot · 20/09/2022 17:51

Yes, he looks absolutely done in, poor bloke.

Yesnoormaybe · 20/09/2022 17:56

Do you live in a cave???

strawberriesarenot · 20/09/2022 18:04

What an odd question, if you mean me. No, I don't live in a cave (mind, I wouldn't tell you if I did). I feel compassion for CIII. He looks a man at the brink of collapse. It wasn't me who (allegedly) wrote to him to request a one-to-one meeting, and if the story is true, I think it's heartless. I can see no good reason for the one-to-one.

An attempt reconciliation would surely be better including close family to the king.

That Stella McCartney reception dress was fantastic. Maybe her best look ever. So much better than the poorly fitting dress she wore for her actual wedding. Oh wait, I don't know what she wore for her actual wedding because only she, Harry and the Archbishop were present.

I think she has a wonderful sense of style and always looks good. The Stella McC dress was nice but saw someone describe it as Basil Brush which made me laugh and I can’t unsee it..

2bazookas · 20/09/2022 19:54

He wasn't 5th in line at the time of his marriage,

That's right. He was 6th. William was already a father of three.

At the time of Harry's marriage, the line of succession was Charles, William, George, Charlotte and Louis. Then Harry number 6.

IOW, BEFORE he married Meghan Harry was not even an understudy to an heir. Meghan was never going to get a walk-on part or any lines.. You'd think she could grasp that.

IamTheBridge · 20/09/2022 20:40

CatsandFish · 20/09/2022 09:40

It wasn't a legal wedding so it did NOT have to take place in an authorised venue.

It was two people exchanging vows.

It was not a lie, just racist cultural ignorance.

What a load of nonsense 😂

ReneBumsWombats · 20/09/2022 17:03

I just rewatched the moment where Meghan revealed the secret ceremony three days before the wedding.

She says: "Three days before our wedding, we got married", then pauses and gestures for proper dramatic effect. It may be because I'm British that when someone says they got married, I think they mean they got married, but it really does look pretty definite to me and she clearly expected a gasp of shock for the significant of the revelation. I guess the clue is that she goes on to say it was just the three of them (the couple and the Archbishop), so it couldn't be a wedding without witnesses and I guess their back garden wasn't licenced....but it's clear what she wanted people to think.

Then to go into "people don't know that!" as if it's somehow on the public that it didn't know something they deliberately kept secret.

It's extremely annoying and the more I see it, the more contemptuous it seems. I used to really like Meghan and Harry but jeez, they just made it too difficult.

This says it all - she is a fantasist.

Harry and Meghan are ‘less important’
Is that why there are so many threads being created about this ‘less important’ couple.?
Let us be honest, the British media are obsessed with this couple and will continue to be obsessed .
They thought that Harry would come back with his begging bowl, but that hasn’t happened. I don’t think that it ever will tbh
I think that Meghan and Harry the ‘less important’ couple are probably relieved that they left Britain and I don’t blame them.
They will be fine though. They are doing amazing things with their charity work.

Cuck00soup · 20/09/2022 22:23

I didn't watch the Oprah interview at the time. That clip though. Meghan taking about their special, secret wedding and Harry studiously avoiding eye contact whilst stroking a chicken.

No one, but no one, mistakes a wedding rehearsal for a wedding.

Amazing things with their charity really….

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s US charity raised less than US$50,000 (£36,947) in 2020, tax return filings have revealed.”

www.independent.co.uk/life-style/royal-family/meghan-markle-harry-charity-archewell-b1987156.html

To give them their dues they have done spectacularly well in securing deals for themselves - likely well over $200 million - their “charity” is a facade for their commercial ventures.

41:10 Prince Harry Cut Off Financially

This was my favourite part. The way he said “We’re living off the money my mother left me”, as if Princess Di was some poor old dear saving her coppers in a Quality Street tin.

cabansunset · 20/09/2022 23:08

They will have racked up enough complaints and slights over this mourning period for another book deal and podcast series...they will return to California and get even wealthier and more famous, convincing the world they are the true victims.

Charity work....not so much.

Rather than living off the money he thinks his father should be giving him

I suspected that, but I guess whether he uses any new batch of grievances depends on whether he wants to be invited to the coronation.

Oh, poor loves. Imagine the sheer horror of being expected to live off what you earn.

TightDiamondShoes · 21/09/2022 05:54

Their charity work is amazing. Imagine being a street worker and being given a banana with “you are loved” scrawled on it - could totally be the thing to turn your life around.

or maybe when the SUV stopped to give a homeless man (well, security stepped out because y’know… cooties) a bag full of food - but Aldi pinched the sweets first.

I did wonder why all the HRH stuff was coming out - they do look petulant wanting and not wanting titles - I expect that's in response to these demands - it it leaks they made money demands I don't think it would go down well with any audience especially as they have publicly criticized them

Yes all the leaks over the past week about poor "heartbroken" Harry - not allowed the fanciest titles for his dc/ not allowed full access to the ER accessories in the dressing-up box, not allowed to stay up and join the grown-ups at their special party etc etc

Such a bore. They seem to genuinely believe that leaking these things will pull at the public's heartstrings and make people pity Harry. And if anyone wants to insinuate that these leaks stemmed from the palace - please don't bother. The last thing in the world anyone in the RF wanted last week was for preparations for HMQ's funeral to be overshadowed by more petty Markle camp grievances.

Honestly, I haven't bothered posting on these threads lately because the pair of them just bores me to tears now. The sooner they return to the US and do their own thing, the better! (Hopefully relying on their own "talents" in future, rather than slagging off members of the RF with no right of reply)

Agree.

Performative.

Minimum effort + Maximum exposure.

There charity efforts have zero strategic focus, a quick read of Archewell shows a lot of “band-wagoning” they comment on each and every top news headline of the day…..to get themselves in that / any spotlight.

If you look at the charity work of other high profile people - they have traction and build depth. This is just froth.

They had fearfully unlucky timing, because the pandemic hit just at the time they started up.

That said, although I know they have given grants to various other organisations, I would like to see more of what they actually do themselves. And the amount of time since easing of restrictions means it's not unreasonable to think it should be made apparent soon (September is a really good time for launches).

Cuck00soup · 21/09/2022 09:33

You know those threads about toddler's who kick off when they are given exactly what they asked for?

Many people with a minuscule fraction of the resources and time they had at their disposal achieved incredible things for others under huge duress during the pandemic.

These two don’t break a sweat or get their hands dirty.

They are grandiose, deluded, tone deaf “victims” who use “charity” as a front for the accumulation of substantial wealth to which they believe they are entitled.
