Why are H&M "less important" now?

Let's not make this a bashing thread!
But in another thread yesterday it occured to me that the way I see it, I just get the sense that with the queens death they almost drop a rank. But that doesnt make sense? If anything shouldn't they now feel more important? Now that her majesty has gone it just feels like they become more distant somehow. Could it be to do with the passing of a generation, so they are no longer "the youth"?

By the way this isnt based on any facts or anything I've read, just a feeling on it. Can anyone explain? Am I right or wrong?

Bea’s wedding was always going g to be at the Guards Chapel which holds about 150 with a reception at Buckingham Palace so much smaller. Beatrice is well known for being surprisingly shy, whereas Eugenie is a party girl, witness how there have still been no public photographs at all of her daughter .

WalkingwithPilgrims · 20/09/2022 15:26

Even if there were encouraged to go big they certainly leaned in - I don't know many wall flowers who would invite James Corden to MC, Idris Elba to DJ and have Oprah and George Clooney there if they wanted to keep it 'low key' and 'simple'

Rapidtango · 20/09/2022 15:27

IcedPurple, and I don't think anyone would have wanted to stop them. The narrative that they were forced to have a big wedding is so much hogwash. I can just see the Queen demanding they invite the Clooneys and Oprah Grin

X post.

Dinoteeth · 20/09/2022 15:28

Did Bea not get married in the small church at Windsor?

I know it was scaled back because of lockdown (and possibly her Dad) but I'm bet she's glad she did it. And got that beautiful photo with her Grandparents.
That must have been one of the last published photos of Philip.

Unfortunately when it comes to Harry and Meghan it is not exaggeration.

They could have stood their ground… yeah right

There was no actual ground to stand though was there?

They could and would have been (and most likely were) accommodated to their wishes.

Seems to me that they were very happy with the arrangements for their wedding day and it was only later when they felt aggrieved about something else that they turned and threw stones at it in another attempt to sneer and twist.

Recollections may vary.

WalkingwithPilgrims · 20/09/2022 15:28

Or again maybe it was the Queen who insisted on James Corden being MC

Spot on.

No. The change to let women inherit over their younger brothers only took effect from the current generation (so Charlotte before Louis and Beatrice’s daughter before any hypothetical brothers). Anne still comes after Charles, Andrew and Edward in that order. Each person’s children then inherit before it goes back up a generation.

I think Peter Phillips is older than Zara anyway but it does mean that of Edward’s children, James comes before Louise.

Thanks for explaining!

But they didn't seem to have a clear strategy for going forward and have ended up in a bit of a mess, no real role, estranged from Harry's family and very unpopular with many of the British public.

Not really in a mess. I bet Meghan could go back to acting if she had to do. And Harry could see to things at home. Chickens etc.

Apart from her role in Suits Meghan hadn't really had a high profile acting career. She's been away from it for several years now and is at an age when parts tend to dry up for women, however beautiful they are.

She's very beautiful. I'm sure she could pick up something. And Meryl Streep has aged but not been out of work.

There's her writing too.

Anyway, I expect Harry has enough left to see them through if they're careful.

Meghan was a TV actress. Was there no chance that she was friendly with these people?

WalkingwithPilgrims · 20/09/2022 15:40

We were commenting on how well Mike Tindall has adjusted to Royal Life. He was famous and independently successful prior to marrying Zara and has continued his career without seemingly exploiting royal connections or using his connections to get publicity.

I heard they couldn't get Paddington.

Anyway, there's this:

If you ask me, she's very sensibly got CIII over a barrel now. EIther peace and an allowance, or blackmail and a fortune... Clever old Megs. Doubly intelligent to demand it's one to one.

Snog · 20/09/2022 15:51

@strawberriesarenot it's a bit of a stretch surely to compare Meghans acting with Meryl Streep

Acting is 9/10ths confidence, so no.

That would look bad, though, wouldn't it? On Oprah, or where ever.

WalkingwithPilgrims · 20/09/2022 15:57

The most extraordinary thing to me is that Harry and Meghan didn't schedule a visit with the Queen in the weeks before her death, when they were in the UK on their own engagements.

It was widely reported that they had turned down a trip to Balmoral. If this was not true then I am sure they would have corrected that by now.

They must have known she was failing. Even if they didn't they knew she was 96 years old.

It is such a sad state of affairs that you can change your schedule/engagements to attend a funeral but you can't fit in a visit whilst they are still alive when you relatively nearby.

Rapidtango · 20/09/2022 15:58

Wonder why Meghan thinks it's appropriate for her to want a one to one with her husband's father, unless she seriously wants rapprochement.
