I've put the news on today for the first time since Friday. Had constant twitter / news notifications so heard what's happening.

This morning I've heard people say they saw the queen as a second grandmother. They are as upset as they would be if they lost their mum.

People queuing during their night with their primary age kids.

Just seems a bit mad no?

Are you going to respond to every single person who has a different view/opinion to you and tell them they're wrong?

What should I have checked with you first? 😁

Are you the disagree police?

sunglassesonthetable · 16/09/2022 23:45

I remember being a child. All those things are fun if it is a very short queue. No child will find all those things exciting in a queue for 7 or more hours.

No idea how people travel around the world with kids then.

sunglassesonthetable · 17/09/2022 00:39

Watching the live stream right now. And quite a lot of babies in prams and parents coming through with kids, older primary mostly. Must be something to do with the starting time.

There are two mums with about 6 children between them . 7-10 ish in age. looking around and holding their mum's hands. Bowing with their mums. They've got the guard change.

Man in a wheelchair with a toddler on his knee.

Parents know their own kids.

Should I be running this past you first @Grandeur ?

What kind of travelling do you do that involves queuing for 7 hours?

sunglassesonthetable · 17/09/2022 02:08

Hours of queuing and waiting and not doing child centric things when you do international travel. Obviously not exactly 🙄 like the big queue.

Anyway we'll have to agree to disagree on this.

I see kid s who are contentedly in the moment on the live stream and you see something quite different . There we are. Luckily it's up to the parents. Who seem to be doing fine.

Always4Brenner · 17/09/2022 02:09

This is over the top now I’ve had enough now.

sunglassesonthetable · 17/09/2022 02:10

👍🏻

Do these primary aged children not have school to go to? If so that's where they should be.

Guessing they go to school.

I expect, that their parents made a decision to take them out for the day.

Often with the schools support. My sons school was happy for any kids to be taken out to go to London.

Kids often miss school for all sorts of reasons. Not just sickness. Sporting events, family celebrations, non Christian festivals. Basically, things that their parents decide are important

CathyorClaire · 17/09/2022 10:53

Bet he's only crying because she never gave him a knighthood.

😆

They wheeled his clips on again this morning and then followed it with the breathless news waiting times had gone down by two hours. Or maybe up. But anyway they vary .

There is literally nothing left to say at this point but on it all still goes...

sunglassesonthetable · 17/09/2022 15:50

Interestingly there are people on MN "queue" threads, who are queuing with DC right now. I think some started last night.

Now's your chance to tell them their children aren't enjoying it or shouldn't be there.

sunglassesonthetable · 17/09/2022 15:50

😉

I have never queued for 7 hours or more on any travel I have done.
Even shorter queues at passport control with young kids is not fun.

excellent 👌

sunglassesonthetable · 17/09/2022 16:00

Don't tell me @antelopevalley

Tell the people queuing with DC right now on the other threads.

"Your kids are not enjoying this"

Oh wait don't.

You'll look a right plum.

😁

LaraLei · 17/09/2022 16:02

It is total madness.
Glad to find this thread and some people agree with me.

We weren’t authorised to take children off for grandparents funeral yet a a couple of children in my kid’s school have have two days authorised to go to London 🤷🏻‍♀️

wish they would be this generous with holidays for family member’s funerals too

Wow that's so harsh. You definitely would had at my DC school.

sunglassesonthetable · 17/09/2022 16:11

Where do you live?

sunglassesonthetable · 17/09/2022 16:12

My son's friends got the day when his DD died even.

A friend of my DDs lost her '100% attendance' award when she was off 1 day for her mums funeral in primary Shock

User14379 · 17/09/2022 16:51

It was before COVID and we got the whole spiel about everyday and minute being important blah blah. And then they shut for 1.5 years for CoVId and now authorising for the queue.
it still stings 😬 we took the DC off but it was unauthorised

My mum died at the beginning of December. Ds was in primary and we were given a week. But weee told he could have longer if he needed it.

Dd was at college and they sorted out sending her work via email, until new year and didn’t attend til them.

I actually chose to take one full day off. I hated the lack of control I felt. But work wanted me to take more and let me come and go as I pleased for as long as I needed. I actually wished I could take bereavement leave about 6 months later. But I digress.

I think it’s really awful that standards are so different across employers and schools and some are so unsympathetic. And while I think it’s fine to take kids out of school to go to London at the moment, if you want to. That’s an awful double standard to have, when they are so harsh when a child loses a grandparent.

Out at night with your parents, the adventure of the queue, snacks and chat, the lights of London. The river. The smells and sounds. Doing something completely different from anything you've done before. The guards and their hats. The bearskins and the swords and the candles and the crown. The awesome quiet of all the people in the chamber. I think my children would have LOVED it.

But I can see you have a very particular view of life @antelopevalley 🙄

No my kids would rather be home than stood outside freezing for hours waiting to see a coffin.
