I've put the news on today for the first time since Friday. Had constant twitter / news notifications so heard what's happening.

This morning I've heard people say they saw the queen as a second grandmother. They are as upset as they would be if they lost their mum.

People queuing during their night with their primary age kids.

Just seems a bit mad no?

If you're in that queue for hours and you need to go to the loo what do people do ?
Does anyone know ?

wrong thread, not queuers here 😉😁

😂@LadyEloise1 There are a lot of portaloos en route to the motherload of fawning, forelock tugging obsequiousness.

Sorry, seriously there are. Also the museums are letting their facilities be used by queuers and you can leave to get food and come back to your rough place, apparently. Numbered wrist bracelets you get at a certain point so you can rejoin.

However, anyone actually leaving the queue will be hanged, drawn and quartered for treason, because we are the Western version of North Korea (apparently)

Thank you @CPL593H

Can I just say I didn't mean to bash the queen. I was specifically talking about two points:

Comparing her to family
Queuing through the night with little kids

But if some people feel like she was apart of their family, so what? I am baffled by it, having recently lost my own mum. But I don’t really care if other people feel like she is family. Some of the people saying this have lost their own parents or grand parents and it may compare.

There was an elderly woman on the news who lived in London and attended all the events. Every wedding, jubilee etc. originally with her own mother who was now dead. She said she felt like she had lost someone in her own family. I can’t see the problem or how that reflects on other people. I don’t see how anyone can be offended.

My mother death has floored me. I don’t think I will ever get back up. But I am not offended because someone else thinks the Queen felt like family. She just doesn’t to me.

I definitely wouldn’t queue with kids. But again, I think that’s a personal decision for parents. Seems crazy to me, but again, not something that bothers me either way.

Why are people so worked up about the queue, when they have no interest in joining it?

They're not. Many of them are laughing at it.

Okay so it's understandable some people might feel sad, end of an era, etc; might even feel they liked her and what she stood for (as far as the latter is concerned I find that incomprehensible, but okay whatever floats your boat), but as for the madness in proclaiming they are as devastated as when their own mums died (que?) or when other funerals are being cancelled and grieving relatives ARE genuinely devastated, that kind of attitude is truly worthy of derision. Not least, a certain amount of anger.

There's a dedicated GrieveWatch account on Twitter and it's very entertaining. I'm sure the Dedicated Royalists will damn it (and those who find it funny) as profaners, and tell its followers they're going straight to hell (or more predictably, to 'move abroad') but frankly I couldn't care less. Given the state of these OTT displays, if you didn't laugh, you'd cry ...

What’s GrieveWatch?

Is it pictures of people upset?

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 16/09/2022 14:28

What’s GrieveWatch?

Is it pictures of people upset?

No, of the silliest, more gratuitous displays and barmier cancellation notices. Plus a running commentary on The Queue.

Oh right, phew. Humour is obviously ok but my mind went to people being laughed at - I’m glad it’s not

No, I'd find nothing entertaining in unnecessary cruelty. But the situation in general is descending into parody. If nothing else, I think some questions will be raised once the dust settles a bit.

Some people on this thread called it offensive. But you care enough about what people do to start a thread called ‘people have lost their minds’ because some people felt like she was family and because they have taken their kids.

How is that losing their minds? It’s just simply something you or I don’t feel and wouldn’t do.

Clearly, David Beckham thinks it’s worth doing 🤪😂

Completely!

I keep thinking "stockholm syndrome"! People (on here especially) attacking anyone who dares dissent from blind adoration of this completely innocent and altruistic institution.

My mind is boggled.

Stockholm Syndrome meaning:

"Stockholm syndrome is a coping mechanism to a captive or abusive situation."

How does this apply to people's behaviour over the Queen's passing? 🙄

You possibly mean this:

So much more camaraderie with the little girl in Liverpool.

RIP little one

People queuing during their night with their primary age kids.

Don't really see the problem with this at all. It's a bit of an historical one off, not the Next Sale. What an amazing memory for the kids. Lucky them and fair play to the parents I say.

@vroom321

antelopevalley · 16/09/2022 23:28

It is not an amazing memory for the kids. Queuing for hours an d hours at night ti shuffle past a coffin for a minute.

Totally disagree.

Can you remember being a child?

Are you going to respond to every single person who has a different view/opinion to you and tell them they're wrong?

sunglassesonthetable · 16/09/2022 23:37

Out at night with your parents, the adventure of the queue, snacks and chat, the lights of London. The river. The smells and sounds. Doing something completely different from anything you've done before. The guards and their hats. The bearskins and the swords and the candles and the crown. The awesome quiet of all the people in the chamber. I think my children would have LOVED it.

But I can see you have a very particular view of life @antelopevalley 🙄

antelopevalley · 16/09/2022 23:41

I remember being a child. All those things are fun if it is a very short queue. No child will find all those things exciting in a queue for 7 or more hours.
