The royal family

Charles and that “bloody” pen

The clip of Charles with the leaking pen is an interesting insight into how the royals behave and how they are treated by their seemingly very obsequious staff. Is Charles’ behaviour reasonable or do you think he’s kicking up an unnecessary fuss? Interested to hear other people’s perspectives really because I’ve never seen a clip like this before.

I think he is stressed to the hilt and exhausted.

BrookeDavisQueen · 13/09/2022 21:24

I think when you're grieving you take it out on situations and things.

bellac11 · 13/09/2022 21:25

Yes I initially thought he was out of order in the St James Palace thing where he got the hump about the inkpot but my OH said, he's just lost his mum and is paraded out in front of everyone.

If he continues to be like that for years to come, well thats a different matter.

Celticandco · 13/09/2022 21:27

The man must be on his knees with exhaustion and stress, think we need to give the poor guy a bit of a break for now at least

I’m sure he is and that’s totally understandable - but I can’t imagine Queen Elizabeth behaving in that way?

Although to be fair to Charles, when QE2 assumed the throne she probably didn’t have a camera shoved in her face at every opportunity - let alone social media. Nowadays famous people really do have to be “on” 24/7. The pressure must be enormous.

He seems stressed and exhausted - when you’re full to the brim the tiniest thing can tip you over. It’s not about the pen.

TheKingsInk · 13/09/2022 21:28

How simple can it be to make sure pens work - did the person who set things not bother checking?
i’d be pissed off too - and with the his busy schedule when he probably just wants a day or so gather his thoughts

Fair enough.

Btw the Queen often seemed emotionally repressed. Which is better - a leader who shows he’s human, or a leader who pretends not to be?

They are not the same person.

Elizabeth had years of being centre of attention but without having her every move caught on camera.

Sorry yes I was agreeing with your last point there

Yeah I feel like this tbh. I'm not even British so have no skin in the game but the bloke lost his Mum and is being paraded around like a prize pony every day since. If he can go every which way under the glare of the media having just lost his mum surely they can make sure there is a bloody working pen for him to use?

OrangeFlowersAreLovely · 13/09/2022 21:31

He is at least ten years older than most of us will be when we start to think about retirement, he's under an enormous amount of stress and scrutiny. Plus... he is heartbroken, exhausted and human. Yes QE would have kept her cool and hidden any impatience but he can't be a carbon copy of her and she had a lot more experience than he has had yet. Give the man a break.

BudgetBlast · 13/09/2022 21:32

I think he is doing great. Grief is exhausting and he is only human. We all experience the whole gamut of emotions and sometimes our behaviour displays them against our will.

Dontmakeher · 13/09/2022 21:33

Nah the pens should be functioning. I thought he was justified in his irritation. would've been the same in that sitch

In fairness there are examples of the queen losing composure over the years too. Who knows how she would have behaved under this level of persistent and intense scrutiny. She did not behave the best when Diana died for example.

In what way?

Cupofteaonesugar · 13/09/2022 21:39

I feel so sad for Charles. I think all of these meetings etc are completely and utterly unnecessary right now.
I get stressed when I have a cold, I cannot imagine my stress levels if my mum died and I was then queen and had to be in a different city every day, on TV, doing a new job, In the paper and have everyone commenting and judging me 😳

StressfulBedtimes · 13/09/2022 21:39

His mother died
He has had a camera in his face and his every move scrutinised all day every day since
He’s flying back and forth all over the place and waving and shaking hands with strangers all day
He’s having to take part in ceremony after ceremony and sign paper after paper at a time he should be grieving
He isn’t allowed to cry or show anything but stoicism days after watching his mother die and being surrounded by it constantly since
He’s 73
So yeah I think a pen leaking on me would’ve tipped me over the edge too if I were him
Poor man should be at home crying and going over old photo albums in his comfies surrounded by the people he loves right now
I hope he signs the next thing in biro

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 13/09/2022 21:39

Grief quite often surfaces as irritation and anger.

Then he shouldn't accept the role as long, simple

I think he's acting like a twat and it's an embarrassment

InsertPunHere · 13/09/2022 21:42

Are we sure it isn’t a deep fake? Vanilla’s face is hidden by a hat and awful lot.

Horcruxe · 13/09/2022 21:43

Why cant they use a biro?
