The royal family

Charles and that “bloody” pen

The clip of Charles with the leaking pen is an interesting insight into how the royals behave and how they are treated by their seemingly very obsequious staff. Is Charles’ behaviour reasonable or do you think he’s kicking up an unnecessary fuss? Interested to hear other people’s perspectives really because I’ve never seen a clip like this before.

Who the fuck cares, he seems a bit thick and was Bessie mates with Saville.

Hugasauras · 13/09/2022 22:11

Also 'every stinking time' is like Enid Blyton levels of raging! Grin It's quite endearing.

Honeyroar · 13/09/2022 22:11

My dad’s dying at the moment. If I had to go out and do everything he’s having to do, without showing any emotion, I’d fail miserably. I think he’s doing remarkably well.

He is at least ten years older than most of us will be when we start to think about retirement, he's under an enormous amount of stress and scrutiny. Plus... he is heartbroken, exhausted and human. Yes QE would have kept her cool and hidden any impatience but he can't be a carbon copy of her and she had a lot more experience than he has had yet. Give the man a break.

He is 73. State pension is 67 or 68. Most people do not retire at 60.

FTMFML · 13/09/2022 22:12

Although not wildly keen on Charles I think this must be an awful situation for him.
I cannot imagine losing my mum by all accounts fairly unexpectedly. Then barrelled down to the other end of the country to be paraded about in front of a nation grieving for YOUR mum, become a King with all the drama that entails and then thrown back up the country to parade about again... do speeches... and try to hold your own sh**t together... with some family drama on the side!

I cannot imagine it at all. He must be b**gered!

crochetmeahat · 13/09/2022 22:13

How difficult can it be to get him a non leaky pen???

HundredMilesAnHour · 13/09/2022 21:48

I actually liked seeing the human side of him. He's doing an amazing job and how he's holding it together is just incredible.

The people who are taking potshots at him would do so regardless of what he said or did.

I agree. He's a stereotypical cantankerous old bloke, isn't he?

Although I wasn't comfortable with him dragging Camila off into the car

Poor man should be at home crying and going over old photo albums in his comfies surrounded by the people he loves right now

😞 so true

I was clearing out my parent's council house as it had to be handed back within 2 weeks of their deaths.

I'm sorry @Honeyroar . Wishing you lovely father peace.

turningpurpleygreen · 13/09/2022 22:15

He just said what most
Blokes would say.

Cant they just get a couple biros? Much easier. No ink pots. He could just scribble on a pad first to make sure the ink runs properly

Figgygal · 13/09/2022 22:16

Jesus christ leave the bloke alone
He might be aware of all the criticism from the other day and thought of christ not again
All this chat about pens is mean spirited bollocks

turningpurpleygreen · 13/09/2022 22:17

If Charles dies tomorrow, everyone will be leaving piles of pens outside Buck palace

PaddleBoardingMomma · 13/09/2022 22:19

Can he use a biro!?

”Your highness, please sign this highly emotive and important document that will be kept in history archives for the next 500 years… here’s your Bic, dickhead”

TheUsualChaos · 13/09/2022 22:24

His mother just died. He's under immense stress and pressure. He's also probably also extremely tired. Do any of us act our best when we are stressed and tired?

My DF can get impatient and grumpy with people when he's stressed and working too hard. He most certainly hasn't had a life of privilege. He can have a short fuse though when he's tiring himself out. It doesn't make him a bad person.

Honestly, people trying to find fault in every little thing is so tedious.

CaptainBarbosa · 13/09/2022 22:29

I've had a ink pen leak on me, and my words were much the same and I wasn't grieving and being flown around the UK in my 70s 😳

It went a bit like "ohh FFS , now I'm covered in ink 🤣"

Lindy2 · 13/09/2022 22:31

He clearly needs a rest. I hope there will be a chance for him to at least be out of the spotlight for a day before the funeral on Monday.

To he honest, if a pen had just leaked all over me and an important document I was signing, I'd have very likely used a much stronger word than stinking.

BashfulClam · 13/09/2022 22:37

Biro ink fades. This is why ink pens are used. Look at your birth certificate, the signature if it’s ink rather than typed is done in a fountain pen. I found a jotter I had at school and you can barely read it due to the fading of the ink. These documents will form part of a historical record. He’s probably knackered and stressed I was tired and stressed yesterday and called a fork a ‘fucking wanker’ as I dropped it.

The average retirement age in the UK is around 63 at the moment. Its been higher and its been lower.

Lesserspotteddogfish · 13/09/2022 22:45

The only one trying to help out was Camilla while everyone else just stood there watching.

TheUsualChaos · 13/09/2022 22:46

Yes he does need a rest. He must be desperate for day without formal ceremony by now. Tomorrow is another busy day but then I would think he can rest a bit until the funeral although I'm sure there will be things he has to go through behind the scenes. Camilla seems very calm and collected, she is having to go through all this as well and she is 75, she must be shattered too!

Whokno · 13/09/2022 22:47

I'd have been raging if I was him. He's lost his mum, he's been constantly "on" since, cameras constantly shoved in his face, no time to grieve, racking up the miles like nobody's business - and someone who doesn't have that pressure can't be arsed to make sure the pen doesn't leak all over him.

As a mark of respect for the Queen I think we should give her son a day off, to be left completely alone, to breathe, cry, have tea and cake and mourn with the people he loves. That would be a better way of respecting her than closing fucking centerparcs.

Sparklybutold · 13/09/2022 22:48

I think it demonstrates beautifully how hes a pompous entitled twit. I think you can learn a lot by how someone treats people in a ‘lower’ power position.

Nope, he's still doing his tour of the British Isles. Friday is cardiff (3 different places of course, paraded in between for all to see)

NeedAHoliday2021 · 13/09/2022 22:49

My job is to make sure execs in front of cameras are fully prepped for all situations so that would include desks laid out for them in a workable way with workable pens would be included. I think his team need to be on it so they’re right on hand, telling him the date and ensuring the pens are a style the king can write with. I remember in grief totally losing track of what day I was on. I think he’s doing well but his team need to step up.

Isaidnoalready · 13/09/2022 22:49

He has always been more emotional than his mother his response to Diana's death was emotional there was no need for him to go get his ex wife he could have left it to her family made planes etc available to them but he went apparently against his mother's wishes

I sort of respected him for that
