I plan to go next week from the midlands, to oh my respects. How many of us are planning the journey? I’m considering going late in the evening as it should be open 23 hours a day according to the news.

The coffin will be closed, I am 99% sure...

A million percent it will.

LynneBenfield · 08/09/2022 21:12

I went to Thatcher’s funeral parade

Just to make sure?

fucketyfuckwit · 08/09/2022 21:13

I'm really sure that she wouldn't want us to

tigger1001 · 08/09/2022 21:13

No. I don't get why anyone would want to.

Twizbe · 08/09/2022 21:13

I'd like to. Might go one evening or very early one morning.

steppon · 08/09/2022 21:13

i'm considering it (which has surprised me). I wouldn't have to travel but I hate crowds

TotallyWipedout · 08/09/2022 21:14

No. Grief parasite-ing at its finest.

I‘m part of Operation London Bridge. We are expecting MILLIONS to queue to see her lie in state. You won’t do it in a day. The line is expected to be about 7 miles long with people camping out for it from tonight.

Camping out for a week in a 7 mile queue to walk past a coffin !

steppon · 08/09/2022 21:15

I presume the family would be offended if no one went though?

Snowiscold · 08/09/2022 21:15

No. I live in London, so in theory it would be easy. But no.

CaramelTwirl · 08/09/2022 21:15

No.

bluebellsandcustard · 08/09/2022 21:16

What the hell? No way. Poor woman and family, can they not be afforded that privacy?
It's a no way from me.

steppon · 08/09/2022 21:16

No. Grief parasite-ing at its finest.

I thought it was about paying respects?

Oh okay, I definitely won't then. Thanks for the info. I was imagining I could hop on the bus and maybe queue for a couple of hours!

EmmaH2022 · 08/09/2022 21:17

*at night

PomegranateOfPersephone · 08/09/2022 21:18

It never occurred to me that this would be a thing. A part of me would like to go and pay my respects. I suppose whether it is disrespectful or respectful to go is an interesting question. If I go it will be out of respect.

BeetrootBeetrootGhali · 08/09/2022 21:18

She is someone's Mother, Grandma and Great Grandma

Wow, I hadn’t realized the inbreeding was that bad.

steppon · 08/09/2022 21:19

🤣🤣

steppon · 08/09/2022 21:19

It never occurred to me that this would be a thing.

it's pretty standard for royals I thought

Flockbee · 08/09/2022 21:19

Its part of their duty, the family understand the protocols and I doubt they'll be thinking screw all of these swines who have come to pay their respects. That said no I won't be!

PomegranateOfPersephone · 08/09/2022 21:20

Thanks to the information shared by OnceAgain, I will probably not go and pay my respects…

Favouritefruits · 08/09/2022 21:22

It will cost me hundreds for train tickets so I won’t be bothering!

SiobhanSharpe · 08/09/2022 21:23

I imagine the people who want to walk past the coffin see it as paying their respects.
Fair enough but it's not for me, even if shuffling along in a queue for hours wasn't excruciating for my poor old back.
I will drink a toast to her though.

LosingTheWill2022 · 08/09/2022 21:24

I won't be going but I can't see why it would be disrespectful. Lying in state is a traditional part of state mourning and is supposed to be a way of paying respect. No more ghoulish than seeing a coffin at a funeral. Not my cup of tea thanks but it's part of the plan that I presume the Queen sanctioned.
