A positive and non-bashing thread about Meghan and Harry

I have rejoined Mumsnet after leaving a few times. The first time I left was because I was concerned about the coverage and uncomfortable undertone of the commentary on Meghan Markle after the engagement was announced, before she had said a word, and before she had married into the Royal Family.

I came back around the time she and Harry left the UK, to be stunned by the pages and pages upon pages of virulent threads. At that time Mumsnet actually banned all threads about Meghan, it had become so toxic.

They have now made their lives in Montecito, but still the virulence continues. Yes, she speaks in a mix of therapy plus corporate gobbledegook, yes, she is occasionally vapid and irritating.

But who is she actually harming that she deserves all this virulence?

Yesterday, when the new UK Prime Minister was elected, the coverage in the Super Tory Daily Mail was all about a seven minute speech to a bunch of young people. Article after article after article. Body language experts. Counting the number of times she said "I" in a speech in which she sought to inspire young people by attempting to relate to them. Before that, 18 articles were devoted to the first podcast by the Daily Mail alone. 18!

Same with her podcasts. The series is about HER and HER take on labels, and she discusses HER take with HER guests.

It's all very anodyne, even vanilla. It does not deserve any of the vitriol sent her way.

SO:

As the next twelve weeks are going to be wall to wall Meghan, and the Meghan haters and detractors have several threads here that fill up rapidly with bile, scorn and mockery, I have started this thread, reminiscent of previous " positive" threads, to talk about what some of us like, enjoy, find amusing and even (gasp) admire, in the next few Meghan rich weeks.

If you don't have anything positive to say, that's okay, you can keep to the existing threads.

Looking forward to a bile-free discussion of everything Meghan!

A body! Arghhhhh that gives me flashbacks of nights in club toilets!

Serenster · 09/09/2022 20:14

My DD saw Kate Moss once in a situation where she could really look. She said she was stunning, figure, ethereal face, just amazing

I once stood behind Cindy Crawford while waiting to be served in the Beauty section at Harvey Nichols, and though “Yep, you may as well be a different species to me” 😂

MaulPerton · 09/09/2022 20:18

Personally, I prefer the Fire Saga look <ducks> really, really hate fashion with a passion, to the disgust of DH

I can’t copy a a photo so link above

id mentioned this look above - skirt (great waist height) and shirt look. I think this looks amazing - her legs are great

Ohnonevermind · 09/09/2022 20:24

But I’m sorry, I love fire saga and can’t look at scarves the same way since 🤣

Ohnonevermind · 09/09/2022 20:28

Hi Meghan. Welcome to Mumsnet.

😂😂😂😂

MarshaMelrose · 09/09/2022 20:33

I much prefer her in smart casual clothes. I think she looks modern and fab. Maybe because they suit her proportions better than formal evening wear does.

I like the idea behind what she wore in Dusseldorf but that us not a flattering picture. But I've thought from the beginning of her marriage that she really needs to sort her bra situation out. I just don't think they fit her right. She always seems to be bulging over the top of them.

😂😂😂😂

What's that? 😕

Errrrmmm.......my reaction to BananaBenders post as quoted🤷🙄

Ohnonevermind · 09/09/2022 20:45

i can’t get a low enough pixel image to show but I’d linked to a picture where she wore an emerald green shirt and leather skirt and she looked fabulous if you remember that one.

Serenster · 09/09/2022 20:48

Ohnevermind that green dress and shirt outfit was one of my favourites too.

When Meghan got it right, she looked amazing. I agree separates are easier then dresses, but she could find the right dresses for her shape too.

She has worn some amazing dresses but she has to be super careful about belt positioning and width. Sometimes I just want to wrestle the belts off her 🤣

MarshaMelrose · 09/09/2022 20:54

I love that navy blue dress.

Ohnonevermind · 09/09/2022 20:55

the belts would be sorted if she got the clothes tailored. When the dress fits perfect h like the navy dress above it’s fine, but look like they cut her in two sometimes

Tierne · 09/09/2022 21:02

I totally disagree, that green pencil skirt outfit does her no favours!!!

I remember one outfit she wore where she looked particularly beautiful IMO, cant remember the occasion but it was simply a white shirt and "slacks"

I just love this dress but maybe it's just the dress and not her in it, no idea I am not a fashionista

Ohnonevermind · 09/09/2022 21:31

She has gorgeous ankles and the waist sits beautifully rousette

Ohnonevermind · 09/09/2022 21:32

I loved this look, I thought the colour and style were fabulous

It's a green sack with armholes! Are you being cheeky? 🙃

Ohnonevermind · 09/09/2022 21:38

@MarshaMelrose

i loved the colour on her and the material. She just had a baby and I thought she looked amazing.

MarshaMelrose · 09/09/2022 21:41

I see. She might look amazing but what she's wearing... Well, I guess comfortable is the best description for it. 😁

onlylarkin · 09/09/2022 21:47

I think the green dress she wore to the church is my favorite. But I love that color anyhow.

She looks amazing most of the time, she does have amazing legs (yoga!). Sometimes, though, what she wears looks like it is just to big for her. As I said previously, she should always wear jewel tones and bright colors. They just suit her.

I also love that she does not cover her freckles.
