A positive and non-bashing thread about Meghan and Harry

I have rejoined Mumsnet after leaving a few times. The first time I left was because I was concerned about the coverage and uncomfortable undertone of the commentary on Meghan Markle after the engagement was announced, before she had said a word, and before she had married into the Royal Family.

I came back around the time she and Harry left the UK, to be stunned by the pages and pages upon pages of virulent threads. At that time Mumsnet actually banned all threads about Meghan, it had become so toxic.

They have now made their lives in Montecito, but still the virulence continues. Yes, she speaks in a mix of therapy plus corporate gobbledegook, yes, she is occasionally vapid and irritating.

But who is she actually harming that she deserves all this virulence?

Yesterday, when the new UK Prime Minister was elected, the coverage in the Super Tory Daily Mail was all about a seven minute speech to a bunch of young people. Article after article after article. Body language experts. Counting the number of times she said "I" in a speech in which she sought to inspire young people by attempting to relate to them. Before that, 18 articles were devoted to the first podcast by the Daily Mail alone. 18!

Same with her podcasts. The series is about HER and HER take on labels, and she discusses HER take with HER guests.

It's all very anodyne, even vanilla. It does not deserve any of the vitriol sent her way.

SO:

As the next twelve weeks are going to be wall to wall Meghan, and the Meghan haters and detractors have several threads here that fill up rapidly with bile, scorn and mockery, I have started this thread, reminiscent of previous " positive" threads, to talk about what some of us like, enjoy, find amusing and even (gasp) admire, in the next few Meghan rich weeks.

If you don't have anything positive to say, that's okay, you can keep to the existing threads.

Looking forward to a bile-free discussion of everything Meghan!

I assumed they are back in the US?

Tierne · 08/09/2022 22:33

OK. Meghan will want to be there for them now at this traumatic time, and that will be a good chance for her to get away from the intrusive relentless paparazzi too

Yes, she won't want to be anywhere near the paparazzi.

onlylarkin · 08/09/2022 22:44

Archie and Lilli are in the US. I suspect that Meghan will return to them sooner than Harry will. She, like Catherine and any mother really, will want to ensure that thier routines are disrupted as little as possible.

I do hope she attends any services to support Harry.

Tierne · 08/09/2022 22:48

True. Catherine decided to stay away from Balmoral today so she could be there with her children, I'm sure Meghan will be wanting to get back to her kids to do the same, especially as they are younger. All while supporting Harry without giving the press anything to jump on 🤗

DreadingWinter · 08/09/2022 22:51

I wouldn't be surprised if the nanny brings the children to England as Harry will need to be here for the period of mourning.

Tierne · 08/09/2022 22:52

They have a nanny? 😲

susan12345678 · 08/09/2022 22:52

From Camilla Tominey’s account in the Telegraph, it seems that Harry’s departure for Balmoral was delayed by a few hours due to debate/discussion about whether or not Meghan was accompanying him. They originally told sources that there were both travelling, this was later retracted.

CT also offers some upsetting insights into the impact that H& M’s behaviour had on the poor Queen, especially around Prince Philips death and since.

Shocking to think of Harry & Meghan -as recently as yesterday - continuing to leak via Scobie their infantile demands for apologies from William. Quite unbelievable levels of shamelessness

love this thread. She’s treated unfairly- with bias and it drives me mad that no one sees it.
Or can admit it at least.
Her podcast is interesting - i don’t understand why she can’t live as she pleases.

The whole thing is insane . she’s an accomplished woman with a family history that is difficult . Her dad is wheeled out ( drunk??? ) and apparently this is ethical, relevant and appropriate

she mentions racism and people are disgusted so she doesn’t mention it and people think she’s being sensationalist .

She picked a guy in the public eye and apparently that’s some sort of awful crime ?
dhe seems to have given him meaning - they have kids… so they made life choices to live as they please ? because her husband was born into a life where he couldn’t choose …when he made choices he was wrong ?

i don’t know her but i like what she says, what she stands for and what she works to achieve.

i hope one day people reflect on how ridiculously they treated her and expect her to be flawless in thought, voice and behaviour , less than human and more than human all at once ?

bevause those that judge or any of us are even close to the standards we expect her to be ?

madness

I think she is GREAT

I don’t think anyone knows that for a fact and given how seriously Meghan takes her role as a “mom”, even mentioning it in her recent speech, i very much doubt she has outsourced any of her parenting and it is unfair to assume she has.

She just couldn’t wait just a day before attacking Meghan & Harry?. Seriously some of the Rota are indeed shameless. I have seen bets on black/ diaspora twitter about how long it would take for Meghan to be blamed for all sorts and I guess there are winners out there right now.

Hopefully MM will have the wherewithal and grace to retreat into the background now and let the RF and the people of the U.K. mourn in peace, without the drama that unfortunately seems to follow her (absolutely not her fault of course - she tries so hard to go under the radar). She is such a compassionate and kind person that I am sure she will want to do the right thing. And in any case her kids must need her back home:

I can't tell of this is serious or not...

onlylarkin · 09/09/2022 00:21

I have seen comments all over SM today already blaming her for the Queens death.

It is actually pretty impressive, the supposed power this woman has.

StartupRepair · 09/09/2022 04:12

As Meghan and Harry have been in Europe while their DC have remained in California there is clearly someone looking after them.

Roussette · 09/09/2022 04:42

LondonWolf · 08/09/2022 23:28

I can't tell of this is serious or not...

Hint...it isn't.

I'm not stupid. I recognise it for what it is.

As for linking Tominey on this thread which was supposedly on the more positive side... I hope anyone with an ounce of sense will ignore both the post and the article.

Tominey has repeatedly maligned Meghan, she has a royalist right wing vendetta against her and has been proven to have lied about her (interview on GM) She is not worth anyone's head space.

Please could all those who want to attack Harry via his wife just stop? Detractors of Meghan repeatedly talk about upset, so say caused by H&M. Well....the boot's on the other foot now, he is one of them, grieving with them. Just leave him alone, and by leaving her alone, you will be doing that.

She will be wanting to support him as his wife and the mother of his children, can we not just have a break from the constant attacks on her. Just for a while. It's not a lot to ask is it?

MrsMaxDeWinter · 09/09/2022 04:54

Thank you @Roussette. It's such a sad time, and I genuinely don't understand how any one who claims to have loved or admired the Queen, instead of reflecting on her 70 amazing years as sovereign, has time to write catty articles and posts about Meghan. It really shows that the agenda is nothing about the Royal family at all.

OP posts:
Roussette · 09/09/2022 05:07

@MrsMaxDeWinter
It never really had been. Until Meghan came on the scene I doubt some detractors of her gave Princess Anne, William, Charles one thought. MM has driven them to become staunch royalists as a means of attacking her.
Well...they now need to prove they are the royalists they portray themselves to be..caring about the whole RF, worried about the family..that has to include Harry who will be grieving too.

Ohnonevermind · 09/09/2022 05:39

@Roussette

You are wrong. I became a supporter of the RF after seeing them attacked with lies on Oprah Winfrey, like many of the other posters.

Dont try to turn people’s support of the the RF into something nasty and sordid. Shame on you

SpinCityBlues · 09/09/2022 05:49

Just a thought: apparently Liz Truss was informed at 4.30pm by the Cabinet Secretary that the Queen had died, so even if Harry had arrived 3 hours earlier at 5pm, he would still have been too late?

Tontostitis · 09/09/2022 05:49

I was a supporter til Oprah since then no, nope, nah

notanotheroneagain · 09/09/2022 05:50

Silly me, I thought with the grave news this thread would stop with the bashing.
Royalists still obsessed with bashing H&M, it's been just a few hours, HMQ not even on the ground. Why would you care what H&M do, should you not be busy paying respects to the queen, instead of sniping at her grieving family.

How inappropriate and disrespectful to HMQ at this time.

Roussette · 09/09/2022 05:55

ohnonevermind

Did I address my post to you in
Particular?

No.

Read it properly. I talked of SOME people. Besides which, your answer completely proves my point. So forget your nonsense 'shame on you' comment

And please stop @ ing me; on this particular thread I am not interested in your constant digs at me, which you try so often to do on the threads running H&M down

You are correct. It could be a nanny. Or it could be Doria that has the children. We dint know

Yes an African Nanny. Her mum would likely travel with the children if needed I am sure.

Agree. Their attacks on two very sick and very elderly people were the final straw. They don't even have a noble cause but a grubby notion of celebrity and wealth that trumps everything. It's actually embarrassing.
