I meant I can believe queen's to be more popular

susan12345678 · 01/09/2022 15:35

None of them are as popular as they were , they are actively unpopular with the young . And that is with the queen a little old lady .Everyone is waiting

Keep telling yourself that. 😂
Meanwhile the polls tell a very different story! Namely, that the public approves of the royals, especially the Queen, Kate and William ( 'common touch' Harry, Meghan and Yorks are at the bottom, natch)

66 % for William you call that popular ?

The 'sparkly hat' as you call it is stuffed with looted treasures and blood diamonds .

I don't require a lecture, thank you.

Novella4 · 01/09/2022 15:39

42 % postive for Charles and he's up next !

Things are going better than I thought

SilverLiningPlaybook · 01/09/2022 15:42

I am curious to know if Charles will swear to serve for life as his mother did, Or accept that in ten years or so he should step down and make way for William.
A very elderly monarch does no one any favours.

Samcro · 01/09/2022 15:44

cyclamenqueen · 01/09/2022 12:28

No she wouldn’t because she is not a princess. Her title would be Princess Henry in the same say way that Orincess Michael of Kent is not a princess Marie Christine.

Sarah Fergusson got the title as part of her sivirce settlement , no money though . ( or at least not much)

yes you are right she would really be princess Henry, but we all know the press and so on would call her Princess Meghan,

Novella4 · 01/09/2022 15:45

William has constant PR - in overdrive since Harry left ( and will be v damaged by the post queen truth bombs ) he should be higher than 66%

As the older generation dies off that number will fall further .

Readinginthesun · 01/09/2022 15:48

Novella4 · 01/09/2022 15:27

The queen has kept her mouth shut ( banned that pesky bbc programme too after requesting it as a few 'unhelpful' comments slipped out ) and hoped that would keep the masses quiet .

She has made bad mistakes - Aberfan , how she reacted to Diana's death and protecting Andrew to name but 3.
None of them are as popular as they were , they are actively unpopular with the young . And that is with the queen a little old lady .

Everyone is waiting .

Aberfan ? What was HM’s mistake there ?

Novella4 · 01/09/2022 15:49

@Readinginthesun
She waited eight days to visit .

Am telling you?? Aren't you the royalist

SueSaid · 01/09/2022 15:51

I quite like PC and Camilla, they dont seem full of themselves. I bet he'll do away with loads of the pomp and processions palaver.

I don't mind the royal institution per se I just loathe the whole bowing and 'your highness' crap. Just attend events, make speeches and wave at people. That's all folk want really.

I wonder if PC and PW will be silent regarding H when the Queen isn't around. Be quite funny if PW did an Oprah Winfy interview and whispered dramatically 'I was silenced..'

But was that not because she didn’t want to disrupt the rescue and recovery operation ?
I remember Aberfan very clearly and I recall that Prince Philip went first then HM visited a few days later.

The only royals with constant PR in overdrive are Meghan and Harry - and look where it's getting them! They're fast becoming one of the most unpopular couples on both sides of the Atlantic.

An approval rating of 66% sounds pretty good to me! Most prime ministers could only dream of such popularity!

StormzyinaTCup · 01/09/2022 15:53

Harry had the common touch , even I could see that

Yes, he had the common touch but that seems to have got lost in transit likely somewhere over the Atlantic sea, along with his empathy and self awareness. Shame really.

HeddaGarbled · 01/09/2022 15:55

That poll is really interesting. Women like Kate better than the Queen but rate Meghan second bottom above Andrew. And why on earth does Phillip score so high with Generation X?

Novella4 · 01/09/2022 15:56

It's all PR .

SilverLiningPlaybook · 01/09/2022 15:56

I always though Harry was great with people. Natural, open and genuine. He has a sense of humour and wicked fun. Look at him now. He’s like a different person entirely.

Most of the stones in the Crown Jewels have been there for centuries. Bit late to return them to their original owners. Tho' I suppose you could sent the Russian royal jewellery to Putin. I'm sure he could find a use for it....

Serenster · 01/09/2022 15:59

The delay in visiting Aberfan is said to be the Queens own greatest regret, actually.

Diana’s death - it was of course spun as a mis-step at the time, but looking back now I think that situation plays very differently (I say this having watched the HBO film “The Princess” in the last couple fo days. It is really interesting - it replays the key events of her life from her engagement to Prince Charles to her death entirely by using archival footage from the news and video footage of the theme, plus a voice over from contemporaneous vox pops as well).

Anyway, when you see the Queen and Prince Phillip bringing back their grandsons to London by popular demand to be seen to be visibly mournful - it looks terrible. A 12 and 15 year old having to put on suits and go out to interact with the crowd outside the palace, and be sobbed over by strangers, just days after their mother has died is just bizarre - while the crowd claps them, and, ironically, shouts at their grandparents to “look after the boys”. The nation demanding performative grief from a family hit by tragedy has not aged well, I don’t think.

Well whichever PR agency manufactured the crowds and engagement with the jubilee this year is clearly in line for best firm of the year, then 😀

Not true. And the bit I was talking about was before her funeral in any event.

Novella4 · 01/09/2022 16:05

The princes had to walk behind the Cortège with the adults or Charles risked abuse and worse from the public

SilverLiningPlaybook · 01/09/2022 16:05

Completely agree with you @Serenster .
I watched am documentary on Diana’s death the other day and suddenly saw everything from another perspective . Of course they wanted to stay in Balmoral and protect the boys. It’s sheer child abuse what those poor boys had to do in the aftermath. I was cringing at the scenes of them all outside the Palace gates interacting with the public, all screaming and weeping. At the time I was aghast that the Queen said nothing and stayed away. I see it all with different eyes now.
