Meghan's long-awaited podcast has launched. Sorry if there's a thread about this already. Has anyone listened to it yet? Thoughts?

Mariah Carey. She said in an interview she has to wear heels as her feet repel flat shoes
she seems funny

how that will work with Meghan who can’t do humour we will have to wait and see

Are you joking?? Kate was dragged for ten years for being lazy, not working, no one criticised Meghan because of ambition it was because she was a serial bully.

I think you misread my post. I said women who are ambitious get criticised. I was talking about the premise of the podcast.

ilyx · 24/08/2022 15:50

Erm she was bullied? Are you sure you’re not thinking of the numerous HR complaints made against her and the young female employees she drove out of a job?

I’m thinking of the horrific media and online social media bullying and the online with repellent misogynist and racist overtones, in which MN plays its part.

I’ve never seen anything like it. Everyone should be ashamed of themselves.

Ohnonevermind · 24/08/2022 16:58

She’s being called out for lying and there’s no need to start throwing around racist accusations to get the thread deleted.

Wonnle · 24/08/2022 17:00

She was/is an actor , her whole way of earning a living is by lying of some sort

Listened to about 30mins so far. I listen to a lot of podcasts and surprised she didn’t get more training. Her voice is beautiful (she should do more voiceovers) and perfect for podcasts but the content is very shallow and clichéd. No follow up questions for Serena, she interrupts a lot and makes it about her.
only for hardcore MM fans, lots of better podcasts around on similar topics.

"the content is very shallow and clichéd" because she is both of those things. For all she talks about wanting privacy she sure goes out of her way to point the spotlight at herself.

Malie · 24/08/2022 17:04

A totally tiresome woman who no-one would pay any attention to if she hadn’t booked a thick boy from the royal family. With people desperately trying to make ends meet with the cost of living it frustrates me enormously to hear millionaires whinging on. They need to get a reality check like some of the people who visit our food bank. They are the ones my heart goes out to.

Badger1970 · 24/08/2022 17:17

I wondered how long the racist accusations would take to come along Hmm

They're just as tiresome and predictable as MM these days.

Wouldloveanother · 24/08/2022 17:19

Taking it you didn’t see the ‘straight outta Compton’ headline @Badger1970 ?

Interesting, how do you work out that my comment is ‘racist’?

Why is go on then - tell us who has been racist or misogynistic on this thread?

pointing out Meghans habit of embellishing the truth or even inventing things (like getting married in private) is factual.

Wouldloveanother · 24/08/2022 17:19

Taking it you didn’t see the ‘straight outta Compton’ headline @Badger1970 ?

I saw it and would concede that yes it was racist. However it's the same examples over and over, also the offensive Danny Baker photograph. Doesn't that suggest that the racism was anomalous rather than consistent and pervasive? Sadly there was always going to be some racism because there's always going to be some offensive arseholes in society, similarly misogyny/sexism/classism/ageism etc. Meghan & Harry had every right to draw their line in the sand wherever they wished it to be but I just don't believe we are soaked in racism society where it was impossible to thrive. I think she and Harry were largely loved and wished well but they wanted out and dreadful "racism & bullying" was the route used. I think the OW interview was extremely shortsighted and what was said was based on the current zeitgeist which they thought would smooth their path with not too many awkward questions. Unfortunately for them millions of people remember how things really were - excitement and optimism around a WOC joining the BRF and so were angry and resentful at those largely unfounded accusations and here we are. I don't believe there's any way back for them. They're so disliked and polarising. It's sad actually.

That was disgraceful.

it was also one headline.

let’s not forget she is married to a man who dressed up as a Nazi and referred to a man in his platoon as “our little P**i friend”

wordler · 24/08/2022 18:01

Pros:

She looks amazing in the publicity photo and video. Best she's looked since the early Royal fam days.

She has a lovely voice for radio - seems like she's done some training or practicing since the Elephant movie.

The design of the marketing of the podcast looks very classy. Great first guest, good premise for the series and I like the idea of picking a different theme for each guest. Great to start with Serena Williams right now as she is retiring and a perfect time for a reflective interview. The next few guests also look like interesting choices.

Cons:

The name of the podcast! I know it's a play on Archewell but the themes they are talking about are STEREOTYPES not archetypes - they mean completely different things!

Meghan talked way too much about herself and talked way too much in general - sometimes as a host you have to fill a bit if your guest hasn't got too much to talk about but this was Serena Williams - her story of achievement and the reaction of the establishment in the tennis world to her ambition is fascinating. Someone did a count of the transcript and Meghan talked 1.5 time as much as Serena.

The fire story irritates me (partly because it was not actually a fire with flames but a little bit of smoke which was instantly fixed by simply unplugging the heater) but the main problem with that story is it was told as a 'one-up on you' response to Serena talking about an incident where her baby girl had broken a wrist while being taken care of by Serena and she had to deal with all the Mum guilt over that, and a night of no sleep with a hurt baby and go and play and win a major tennis game the next day. As the interviewer, Meghan should have stayed with Serena's feelings and story and explored that more, not say well let me tell you about the time Archie nearly perished in a fire and I had to go back to work.

And the language she uses is weird when describing these incidents which seem to be a clap back at the royal family.

"the moment we landed, we had to drop him off at this housing unit that they had had us staying in"

Sounds like they were dumped in a roach motel not the British High Commissioner's residence in Cape Town which is a mansion where all visiting royals and VIPs stay!

rocketfromthecrypt · 24/08/2022 18:40

Fundamentally, it's all about her. Wouldn't matter who she spoke to - it would be about her life, her experiences, her struggles. Which is why she would never really have succeeded as a working royal. The queen couldn't visit a hospital ward and talk to the patients about this one time when SHE was really unwell and it sucked - that's not the job.

notanotheroneagain · 24/08/2022 18:42

So far, it looks like MN is all fine with it all.

No one is overtly racist anymore. Racists have learnt to hide it. So no one calls anyone the n* word anymore, they got more clever with hiding it behind baseless accusations and wild assertions.

Oh, so now the rats know about the fire ? But decided to twist it for MM' sake.
Shout everything from the rooftops, but nothing about Archie being basically saved by his nanny. He was supposed to be sleeping in his room, you don't get closer to it than that. It was high emotions all round, and the point is that they were shaken. No protection in place from the looks of it, just depended on the nanny fully.
Guess that was the last straw for Harry.

SueSaid · 24/08/2022 15:44

Yep. They just keep revealing who they are with everything they do or say.

A 'fire breaking out in a bedroom' turns out to have been a smoking appliance. It's all just constant overegging. I wonder if anyone in their team just thinks seriously just shh, your making yourselves look silly now.

She clearly believed that all the work that had gone on behind the scenes, the people involved , the planning, expense and organisation didn’t matter a jot if she felt a bit upset. The very definition of a narcissist. She was there to do a JOB. Something she clearly doesn’t understand.

It’s just endless whining and poor me. She’s taught Harry to see things the same way.

notanotheroneagain · 24/08/2022 18:49

The whole point of a podcast is that you as the host keep on engaging. "talking over someone " ? Josh Rogan does it ALL THE TIME. So do others, it's supposed to be a fly on the wall listen conversation among people discussing a subject, it's not an interview, it's a chat.

Thank goodness the rest of the UK and world, does not constantly believe all the rags and MN.

*Joe Rogan, obvs, his name is right there on the screenshot. It takes a miracle to overtake him.

Ohnonevermind · 24/08/2022 18:56

Joe Rogan 😀 were Meghan and Harry not threatening to leave Spotify because of Joe Rogan. It’s funny you use him as the example of how to behave on podcasts

LondonWolf · 24/08/2022 19:00

Josh Rogan does it ALL THE TIME.

I take it you mean Joe Rogan? Those podcasts are apples and oranges in that he brings on guests often with opposing viewpoints to his, with whom he has convos about current affairs with controversial takes. He often pushes back hard against them and firmly requests receipts for all claims made. The whole point is to pull discussion points apart and examine them not tell the guest how hard it's been for him.

wordler · 24/08/2022 19:02

But I also don't understand why she doesn't see that the way she tells these stories doesn't make her look good at all.

So as I said above I don't think that story had any need to be told in that podcast which was an opportunity to get Serena to open up and talk in depth about her experiences HOWEVER....

if she had to tell it and had said something like...

"I understand about the Mom guilt, when we were on tour in SA I had an experience which made me feel the same way, there was an incident in the place we were staying on the tour and Archie's room nearly caught on fire while we were on an engagement. It really shook me, you know how protective you feel as a new Mom, especially with your first precious baby [relates to other mothers]
and I really didn't want to leave him to go on the next engagement but so much work had gone into the tour and we didn't want to disappoint our hosts but it was very hard [shows appreciation of the SA community they were there to see] and of course, I know how lucky I was to be able to leave him with our wonderful nanny and with all the staff at the Ambassador's residence who took such good care of us after the incident [acknowleges her great privilege, and compliments their hosts] lots of women don't have that privilege when they go through these difficult parenting decisions balancing work and family.

That tells the same story but shows her in a much better light, and as a much more sympathetic person.

Ohnonevermind · 24/08/2022 19:11

I wonder has she shared the smoking heater story with the Grenfell survivors yet.
