Meghan's long-awaited podcast has launched. Sorry if there's a thread about this already. Has anyone listened to it yet? Thoughts?

alternately confused, bemused or aghast This made me laugh. Are we a bunch of latter day Lady Bracknells Grin

😀

wordler · 29/08/2022 18:01

Spotify must be furious - this article is supposed to be promoting the podcast. Royal reporter Richard Eden says it's one of several which have been done for the podcast publicity so maybe they'll get more sense out of the next one.

Could someone please explain what this means ??

sometimes converses like she has a tiny Bachelor producer in her brain directing what she says (at one point in our conversation, instead of answering a question, she will suggest how I might transcribe the noises she’s making: “She’s making these guttural sounds, and I can’t quite articulate what it is she’s feeling in that moment because she has no word for it; she’s just moaning”),

Maybe Meghan dictated the entire article. My favourite bit is where Archie distributes things to homeless people.

I have no clue!

On the plus side, she looks gorgeous in the photos.

Interestingly on twitter even journalists like Hadley Freeman who have been very pre-meghan are giving this interview the side eye.

Xenia · 29/08/2022 18:12

Seeking to control the interviewer by saying how her sounds might be written about is a bit weird.
She might be better off just getting back into being an actress. I thought she was good in Suits and she just says the words someone else has told her to say (a bit like someone who marries into the royal family and plays it by the book I suppose). She does not seem too bothered about checking facts in advance like when did she marry, the need to correct Archie's birth cert (probably not MM's fault but the first attempt described her as if she were widowed by giving her first names) and much else.

The article quite cleverly for what is supposed to be a USA flattery piece dug the knife in pretty well.

OhTheLeetleHandsAndFeetle · 29/08/2022 18:20

Isn’t it the Dunning-Kruger effect when someone’s idea of their own cleverness is actually inversely proportional, so that clever people know they don’t know everything and more stupid people consider themselves to be intellectual giants?

I often think of this when Meghan speaks. I can’t think why.

Ohnonevermind · 29/08/2022 18:25

The interview makes me think of Trump referring to himself as a ‘stable genius’

I'm seriously hoping that this bit at least isn't true ... who on god's earth would make "guttural noises" for the purposes of discussing how they'd be reported??

Exactly!

For me, one of Meghan’s issues may be that she operates at the level of a very shallow but moderately successful US influencer - yet wants to be perceived as a highly intelligent and globally influential princess. Her fans and followers buy into the folly - the rest of us (in the U.K. at least) are alternately confused, bemused or aghast.

I agree but I think she genuinely believes her own hype and believes she already is that.

DFOD · 29/08/2022 18:36

Delusional and grandiose.

The Mandela comparison - cringe and unhinged - shows the depths of delusion and grandiosity.

HeddaGarbled · 29/08/2022 18:39

Describing the decor of their home as like when billionaires dress down in denim 😀

Readinginthesun · 29/08/2022 18:53

I see Scobie is attempting to “ clarify” some of the interview !!

LondonWolf · 29/08/2022 19:06

As ever when I read yet more digs at H's family, I wonder exactly how that ties into them making her feel so wonderfully welcome and in fact, being "the family she never had"?

Lolliesareonme · 29/08/2022 19:20

Dont forget that both H&M both had a guttural reaction to Roe v Wade being overturned.

A variety of guttural sounds from Mel Gibson (YouTube link). I wonder if they cycle through all of them, or have a preferred go to one!

It was the family she never had until it was the family that didn’t give her (them) what she (they) wanted and then it got the same treatment.

StolenWillowTree · 29/08/2022 19:22

Interesting.

A South African newspaper called 'The Citizen' (which is the leading and most highly respected daily newspaper in South Africa) ran a piece on the fire incident which has quotes from someone who was present confirming that there was a fire.

This is a direct quote from someone present:
"The heater burnt. The house didn't burn. The room didn't burn. I didn't see the fire itself, but I saw the heater when it came out of the room. The plastic was severely melted."

The source is quoted anonymously but the Citizen as the leading South African paper would not quote a source without fact checking and verifying that the source was legitimate. A South African newspaper certainly would not publish something that reflects negatively on South Africa just on the word of an American celeb!

It's telling that the South African press are supporting Meghan's version of events and confirming that there was a fire.

Ohnonevermind · 29/08/2022 19:25

She wanted the podcast to show the real here and to refute the points made by Tom Bower

Instead she has shown Tom Bowers assessment to be true and the real her is a self important pompous twit

MarshaMelrose · 29/08/2022 19:28

I think this might be harsh, after all, she is the female equivalent of Mandela.

alphons · 29/08/2022 19:29

It tells you everything you need to know about her, that this is what MM chooses to do with her life.

Ohnonevermind · 29/08/2022 19:30

I can just imagine the RF sitting together reading the interview out load and laughing heartily

She said the same thing about the Engelson family at her first wedding.

I don’t think so. I think perhaps Zara and Mike laugh, and maybe Princess Anne. I can’t see Charles and William or the Queen finding it remotely funny. Just really sad that this is the life Harry has bought into. Literally.
