Some nice Royal news .
It has been announced by BP that she is going to St Andrews University . She will be in good company as I have a young relative starting there too ! When I told her about LL she said “who?” so hopefully HM’s granddaughter will enjoy her years there in peace.
It had also emerged that LL is working p/t in a local garden centre ..
She seems to be a lovely young lady.

That's all about how you feel and nothing to do with me.

I certainly don't think I am superior to anyone on here. Why would I? I'm not!

I just have a different opinion, that's all.

LadyKenya · 20/08/2022 15:51

I do not think that I am superior to anybody else either. OP I am wondering why you started a thread to tell all how lovely you think Lady Louise is. Your relative, you say is also starting at the same university. Why are you not making this about them instead. Apologies if you have already started a thread about them that I did not see.

stillavid · 20/08/2022 17:57

Well done to her!

It is amazing she got into St Andrews as it is harder to get into than Oxbridge currently.

My DC just got three A Stars and an A at A level and got rejected by them. Our school said it is pretty much pointless applying now unless you are Sottish or an International student so she must have really impressed.

Anyone who has a DC thinking of applying should look on the student room website to see how hard it is to get into.

For the course my DC applied for no english students had got in for the last two years for example.

Assuming that the OP's relative is not a member of the royal family, it would be pretty strange to start a thread about her in the Royal Family forum.

However, given that Lady Louise is in fact a member of the royal family, it doesn't seem at all odd to start a thread about her in the relevant forum.

Quite. But what I was saying, I suppose, is whether the OP had a thread going where she is talking about her relatives achievement, rather than a stranger, who she does not even know.

Presumably because the OP's relative, no disrespect to him or her, is a stranger who nobody other than her friends and family are very interested in?

Whereas Lady Louise, while still a stranger, is of some interest to people who choose to read and post on the Royal Family forum?

One of those people being you.

Lots of posters start threads about family members/ friends, nobody knows from Adam. I read and post on many threads like that, as do lots of other posters.

I'm not sure a post by a random MNer about how her relative got into St. Andrew's would attract a great deal of interest, but each to their own.

It seems odd for you to interrogate the OP for starting a perfectly innocuous thread about a member of the royal family in the Royal Family forum. If it didn't interest you, you were free not to click and reply, and instead look for a post about some random MNer's family. But you did choose to click and reply. Multiple times.

I'm curious about your post. And really really want to word this right.

I am restraining myself here.

Do you think the fact she is a member of the RF might have affected her application?
She is not Scottish. She is not an International student.
Unless we know her grades, we cannot say, can we?

I have to add (before there is a pile on) well done her for getting in if it's done on merit.

Readinginthesun · 20/08/2022 19:41

OK @LadyKenya , I didn’t realise that starting a thread in the Royal Family forum about a member of the Royal Family was so controversial!
Louise had a difficult start to life ; she was born prematurely and nearly died ( as did her Mum) . She also has a problem with her eyes which has been commented on in the media . Her clothes have also been criticised. Tricky for a teenage girl . Despite that she has worked hard and got into an excellent university . Nice story ( in my opinion) .
My young relative also had a bad start . Her abusive father beat up her mother so badly that she was born very prematurely and spent a long time in hospital. Her childhood was marred by violence plus she has dyslexia.
Despite that , she too is going to St A .

Wow. OP you must be very proud of your young relative, and what they have achieved, and rightly so. Good luck to her. That is a nice story imo.

LadyKenya · 20/08/2022 19:55

I mean overcoming such difficult beginnings.

Thank you and yes I am very proud of her . She is a credit to her Mum .

Re @Roussette and @stillavid I'm travelling and access is patchy but I've just caught up.

Yes I also see what you did there ( I think ..?)

I could of course go on any TV discussion groups and say what a rubbish programme it is, which i am entitled to, but it is a bit pointless and goady

I hope it’s not that polarised. I couldn’t possibly call myself a monarchist, but I am fascinated that we have this soap opera around our head of state, and I love the historical aspects. Is that allowed?

thefizz · 20/08/2022 20:52

Granny had a word I'd say. Even if she didn't that's what everyone is thinking.

So much jealousy and spite

Cloud9isnowclosed · 20/08/2022 20:57

Obviously we don't know LL's results (and nor should we) but I do think it is a bit snide to imply her royal connection got her a place. She is by definition and action a minor royal so what would St A have to gain by admitting her over others? Its not like when Prince William went and there was a lot more attention on St Andrews (although it is now clear PW went on merit not name dropping) - LL doesn't have the same 'cachet' as an immediate heir to the throne.

I very much doubt HMQ gets involved.

Even if all the palaces decided tomorrow to accept no special favours from any outside bodies, they’d struggle because allowances and special concessions are made for royalty, even when they don’t ask for them.

(Which is why I object to keeping such a large remnant of feudal society, but that’s another story.)

The only truly insightful thing P Harry has ever said was about individual royals being trapped in the institution. They’re bred in captivity.

thefizz · 20/08/2022 21:09

It's reality. Whatever, she is right to get as far away from England/the Royal coterie as possible. Her parents kept her and brother well out of the public gaze, best not to jeopardise that.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 20/08/2022 21:19

At least St A’s have a well-rehearsed protocol for protecting royal students.

Desperado40 · 21/08/2022 10:17

Good on her, but this really isn't the news. By the way, she is the only royal I feel a bit sorry for. Her mother is a fairly stylish and well presented woman but always puts LL in the most frumpiest, I'll itting clothes. What's all that about?

Desperado40 · 21/08/2022 10:18

Ill fitting!
