Some nice Royal news .
It has been announced by BP that she is going to St Andrews University . She will be in good company as I have a young relative starting there too ! When I told her about LL she said “who?” so hopefully HM’s granddaughter will enjoy her years there in peace.
It had also emerged that LL is working p/t in a local garden centre ..
She seems to be a lovely young lady.

i doubt her mother dresses her @Desperado40

Desperado40 · 21/08/2022 10:29

@MrsLargeEmbodied Yes you are right, but she used to choose her clothes when she was younger. She was recently seen wearing a dress her mum wore in 2015, really not flattering for her. Surely her mother must be able to advise or at least not lend her dresses but actually take her shopping and find her something that would suit a young girl.

KirstenBlest · 21/08/2022 14:50

I think she dresses nicely. Many young women haven't found their style at that age. I think she is pretty, nice and intelligent.

Really nice article. Sorry if someone already posted it. I was wading carefully through the thread.

Well the article it’s certainly effusive and gushy, wouldn’t expect anything else from telegraph

MrsLargeEmbodied · 21/08/2022 21:09

ended up reading the article aobut Katherine ,Duchess of Kent

Yes I saw that on Apple News (from The Telegraph originally, I think)

Interesting piece - she spent 7 weeks as an inpatient in the 1970s for depression, or "nervous stress" as it was then described (rather casts doubt on the idea that 50 years later, the wife of a spare younger brother would not be able to receive medical attention for MH issues because of palace rules).

Also I hadn't realised that both Duke and Duchess has relinquished their HRH when they ceased public duties.

Roussette · 21/08/2022 21:55

Amazing that all roads lead back to Meghan on any royal thread 🙄

WinnieTheW0rm · 21/08/2022 22:00

Guilty this time!!

But you know from long acquaintance on threads in this topic that I don't do that as a rule (indeed usually try to steer back to the point, so I am feeling very anomalous!)

It's just that a pp mentioned that article - its worth a read, btw - and some bits were unusually striking

Yes I do know Winnie and I was thinking we were on the Bower book thread for a minute!
😊

She had a miscarriage when she was in her 40's - I remember hearing it on the news when I was doing the shopping!* It had a big impact on her mental health, understandably, and she stepped back from royal duties eventually.

*Why does my brain remember stupid details, and I can't remember what I did yesterday?!!!

I always wondered how Prince William became a helicopter pilot from a degree in Geography.............

Good luck to her. She's been raised well away from the media circus and you have to credit Edward and Sophie for that. She was also born prematurely and both mother and daughter were lucky to survive. Anyone saying there's something wrong with her should be ashamed of themselves.

Did someone actually say that? There are some very vindictive and nasty people on Mumsnet.

EdithWeston · 22/08/2022 21:01

Well, there was something wrong. She has a squint, which has now been corrected. Bit like how Princess Eugenie had scoliosis, which was corrected (and there was positive comment on how she showed her scar on her wedding day, presumably as her history is part of what makes her who she is)

It's OK to note how these young women overcame their challenges. It's bitchy to write them off because they had issues in the first place

antelopevalley · 23/08/2022 00:07

Glad to hear how her squint was able to be corrected. She seems nice enough.
I agree though she could look really stunning with advice on dress styles more suitable for her young age. I noticed one long dress she was wearing really did not suit her at all and made her look quite frumpy. Surely her family could afford good advice for her?

NanaNelly · 23/08/2022 00:11

she’s probably being allowed to find her own way clothes wise.

antelopevalley · 23/08/2022 00:16

@NanaNelly If true that is a shame. Not many 18-year-olds have enough experience to dress best for their figure. A good dresser would take into account her preferences with clothes and make recommendations.

Cloud9isnowclosed · 23/08/2022 06:56

If she's happy in the clothes she's choosing then that's all that matters.

You'd be the first the criticise if Louise had a dresser! Grin

StartupRepair · 23/08/2022 07:12

We know little about her but she appears to be happy going through life without using the Princess title she is technically entitled to.

Readinginthesun · 23/08/2022 07:24

We are now criticising an 18 year old’s clothes ??? How unpleasant . It’s like Beatrice and Eugenie all over again .

OP posts:
MrsLargeEmbodied · 23/08/2022 07:51

yes, give her a break,
she will have enough insecurities already

KirstenBlest · 23/08/2022 08:52

I often see teenagers wearing clothes that do not suit them at all. LL always seems to dress appropriately. They might not be what I would wear but I'm not an 18-year-old.

LL was born prematurely, after placental abruption which is dangerous to the mother and baby, and had esotropia, for which she had an operation as a baby followed by further treatment.

I think she looks lovely.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 23/08/2022 11:15

Drivebye · 19/08/2022 08:55

This isn't about her being a nice person or not, I'm sure she is - why wouldn't she be. However the lack of transparency from the RF continues to show us who they are - they really don't give a monkies, it's just about protecting brand royal. There seems a to be a disproportionate amount of poor judgement from them that they just shrug off and stick 2 fingers up at the general public.

But why do you think you’re owed the details of her grades?

Yes, it is deeply unpleasant to read all the passive aggressive “what a shame” nonsense.

She looks absolutely fine.
