I am just interested to see your opinions about the royal family. No judgement. And it can be from any royal family, not just the British one.

Yes, in the (in)famous photograph with Andrew and Virginia Giffre (sp?) , with Ghislaine Maxwell lurking in the background, Virginia is 17 and looks it, she looks young. He was over 40 at the time and had a teenage daughter himself. I am sorry, it is just disgusting.

I wonder what motivation those people have who keep repeating, she was over the age of consent in the UK, she wasn't forced etc. It was disgusting exploitative behaviour on his part. Then later his mother supported him publicly and paid out of her millions to make the problem go away. Whilst she is of course not directly responsible for this behaviour, she obviously brought him up to have little empathy and a tremendous sense of entitlement. And we are supposed to look up to these people! No wonder the UK is in a mess.

BadgerB · 25/08/2022 06:22

Appearing keen because you bloody well better act it, and free consent, aren't exactly the same thing.

I agree. But I wouldn't expect PA to be sensitive enough to know the difference. He is a nasty, entitled piece of sh-t. But he isn't a rapist.

rwalker · 25/08/2022 07:27

My unpopular opinion is that people always quote how much they apparently cost us
yet fail to mention how much revenue they bring in for the country

in no doubt they go cost us but would love to know the real cost
cost after revenue brought in was deducted

Depends on how you define rape.

Wonder what you’d say if it was your daughter?

It was coercion.

Sadly that doesn't wash with Andrew apologists. On previous threads I've seen all sorts of stuff....
Where's the parents?
Why are they allowing this?
I blame the parents, if their child is out of control, they should do something
She knew what she was doing
And so on....

Some people can't get their heads round (and don't want to) the fact that there are young people out there who are naive and vulnerable, living on the streets, having disadvantaged lives, sometimes because of their parents. They are then ripe for grooming and coercion. But unfortunately some just don't get that. A couple of Epstein's victims were encouragd by their parents because they got money from their daughters. Sad

@BadgerB
'But the young women DID consent'

Every rapist's defence

This is not true. The RF costs so much more.

BadgerB · 25/08/2022 17:40

Can I claim my prize as the poster of the most unpopular opinion !!

I have been accused of defending P.A.!!

But I still say, IF he thought the girl was over 18 and keen to have sex with him, he is still a vile horrible man - but not a rapist or a paedophile

Whowaswrongg · 25/08/2022 17:48

@BadgerB you think he truly believed an attractive 17/18 year old wanted to have sex with a fat, creepy old man?

Some people - not only young girls - are attracted to power. In that photograph, he was the one who looked awkward, she looked happy and relaxed.

I still think he is an odious individual who should be banished far away from HM.

Exactly. She had a troubled life, had been raped before, lived on the streets etc, but people like to ignore that. They need to look up grooming and coercion.

There are people out there who stand next to their husbands in photos, smiling, whose partner ritually exerts control over them, who gives them a black eye and a slap, or ridicules them endlessly. You wouldn't know about their situation from a photograph.

Malie · 25/08/2022 18:17

If it wasn’t the RF we’d have to have some President to represent us in which case it would be some half witted ex-politician like Blair or Cameron. And it would cost jus5 as much and not bring in any tourists. No thanks. Stick with the best of what we have. Forget about Harry, Andrew and the let-downs.

BronzeSage · 25/08/2022 18:18

Well people can defend PA all they want; he didn't settle with her for nothing.

At least presidents can be voted out if they prove to be slackers, unlike the RF who are imposed upon us and are as much use as a chocolate teapot.

In your opinion. Many people disagree.

The Queen a slacker? 😀

SausageinaBun · 25/08/2022 18:55

The ones who have "normal jobs" don't have normal jobs. There's no way they are trying to juggle 28 days holiday with turning up at Ascot, the odd garden party and all of those holidays.

Also, Prince Andrew has actually got a great deal. All of the aged minor royals keep on trekking about cutting ribbons at minor events, whereas he gets to retire early.

the80sweregreat · 25/08/2022 19:09

They don't have to do a great deal really. They are all very rich and have lots of properties
They are chauffeured everywhere and have security round the clock. They have to look smart and smile a lot , a few platitudes and back home in time for afternoon tea. Pick a few charities to endorse etc.
The Queen does more , but most of the minor Royals don't have a bad gig really.
It wouldn't be for me, but there are a lot of perks and life must be easier for them than most of us have it and lots laid on for them
It's not a normal life and they probably like this aspect of that I bet.

No, but she had to give the impression that she did want sex with him. And he wouldn't have been empathetic enough (or at all) to see the falsity. Bear in mind he hadn't always been fat & creepy, he was once a handsome young war-hero. Probably still saw himself that way.

LaMarschallin · 26/08/2022 08:12

Probably still saw himself that way.

And possibly still does. It would explain him bringing the Falklands up in That Interview and putting a - later removed - account of it on Fergie's Instagram.
I think one of his main (only?) talents is very effective self-delusion.

I think realistically it is difficult for them to have normal jobs…and really this just applies to Beatrice and Eugenie as Peter and Zara work for themselves. I don’t think the girls…when they did work did 5 day weeks there was a lot of engagement around that was being done in their own time but Beatrice would still be on maternity and Eugene doesn’t appear to have gone back to work and os doing increasing charity.
