I am just interested to see your opinions about the royal family. No judgement. And it can be from any royal family, not just the British one.

@StolenWillowTree But they have to co-operate with the press because there is so much dodgy going on. If they behaved themselves and acted like decent people they could stand up to the press. But they do not so need to work with the press to minimise damaging stories.

This with knobs on.

Ok so we're not losing the Monarchy but I seriously think A LOT has to change and it doesn't bode well for Charles',s reign, he's too ensconced in cover ups and dodgy dealings.
It's going to be a free for all when the queen goes.

Things HAVE to change drastically if the monarchy is to survive. It's an archaic entitled institution that will be open to ridicule if they don't get their act together

Can William abdicate his whole family, while the kids are minors?

Or is George stuck with it till he is 18 and can choose for himself?

I've never understood the 'but they bring tourists to the uk' argument. It's not like Chad and Cheryl from Texas are going to sit down for tea with the queen, are they? So what is it? The palaces could all be opened up for public viewing, their priceless art could be put in galleries.

Exactly this.

Strange? I find it diabolical. She should be looking closer to home. I know it's not fair, but that's life. It's like a wife who supports her paedophile husband after a prison sentence, she's shunned. But this family just carry on supporting him, and one of them is the a patron of a charity for trafficked individuals!

She shouldve quietly resigned. Not fair I know, but the daughters begging for the father to re-enter royal duties, means to me they really have not got a clue about the enormity of what he has done in his support of two sex traffickers. He only stepped back when the heat was on and not by choice

I'm glad you agree, Roussette. I absolutely concur with your points and in my opinion she should have resigned.

“And there's something about Edward they're not telling us.”

I thought Edward was gaining respect for being hardworking, and going about his business well.

Anyone older knows the truth about Edward.

Anyone older knows the truth about Edward.

Well I’m older and only know of him leaving the Marines during his basic training because he didn’t like the brutality. I do suspect however that there are those who probably made it out to be something else entirely.

antelopevalley · 28/08/2022 18:31

@NanaNelly There was a lot of press coverage at the time about Edward and various incidents. Since you can not get back copies of newspapers to that time without paying, I can not link any of them.

Really ? I am pretty ancient , have always been interested in the RF and have no idea what you are on about .

antelopevalley · 28/08/2022 19:50

Unfortunately it will just be deleted without a source link which I will not pay for.

Ok , well I will just disregard your assertion

German inbreds at the top of the parasitic tree that is the English class system.

Getting rid of them wouldn't solve everything but it would be a start.

We can still have tourists. The French cut all of their heads off and loads of people still visit Versailles.

CathyorClaire · 28/08/2022 20:27

Agree entirely but also unsurprised when the royals as a whole seem to have had the optics gene pass them by.

CathyorClaire · 28/08/2022 20:35

I don't want to cut their heads off (!).

A quiet retreat into an obscure country life would do me but I agree entirely about Versailles. If we opened up the royal residences I reckon we'd really see the much vaunted yet tantalisingly unprovable tourist $$$ pouring in.

I’m second/third generation immigrant. I count myself as British as well as Greek. The RF have been in the U.K. since the 1700’s. How many generations does it have to be before myself & other immigrants are accepted?

Im also interested in the RF, quite a bit interested actually, and I can’t recall anything either apart from him being a bit of a gentle soul who liked amateur dramatics and would have liked a career in the Theatre. The Marines were never for him and he left because he couldn’t stand the brutality involved n the training.

Dunno. I'm not English myself.

StandingStill · 28/08/2022 21:24

@CathyorClaire I don't want to cut their heads off either - really CBA.

But my point is even countries that have cut off royals' heads have flourishing tourist attractions based around royalty. So they're not necessary for that.

perimenofertility · 28/08/2022 21:34

I find it so difficult to respect anyone who I'm told I should respect simply because of the family they were born into.
Like most people, the Queen was Queen when I was born and has been Queen all of my life. Because she's always been the Queen I find it easy to like and respect her in that role. Same with Charles. As I've grown up I've always thought of him as King-to-be and I think he'll do a good job and in particular will do good work on environmental causes.
William is a fair bit younger than me and so I find it difficult to think of him in the same way as them. No way on earth could I imagine courtesying to young George.

KnickerlessParsons · 28/08/2022 23:19

Anyone older knows the truth about Edward

I'm old but I don't know what you're talking about. Can you be more explicit?

CPL593H · 28/08/2022 23:29

I'm older than Edward and apart from some totally unproven gossip about his (possible) sexual orientation, based on little more than him leaving the Marines and liking the theatre as far as I can see, no can't remember anything either. No idea about the "various incidents" you mention and as this was pre internet, it was clearly public domain.

CPL593H · 28/08/2022 23:44

Oh I had a thought. If it's "being a bit petulant at the press conference after It's a Royal Knockout" give up. Hardly the Princes in the Tower or beheading a couple of wives, is it?

Sorry, but the unremitting sniping at everyone who isn't Harry or Meghan is tiresome, @antelopevalley

antelopevalley · 29/08/2022 00:04

It is not sniping at all.

SeptimusWarrenSmith · 29/08/2022 00:31

Yeah he's definitely gay, his wife is a beard, also they both are partial to a bit of palm greasing. This is well known.

At least he's not a nonce like his brother though.

Or a .. what would you even call Charles? A red faced philandering clown past retirement age, who has never actually done the job that god supposedly marked him for but will do it some day along with the woman he cheated on his wife with. That's the guy who gets to be in charge of our country? I don't think so.
