Harry's speech at the UN

Just what is going on? Why does Harry think he is qualified to pronounce on various political matters in another country? Why is he invited and who cares what he thinks? Am I the only one thinking he is behaving like a total numpty?

Gosh, this looks to have spectacularly backfired.
Loads of negative press reports (globally), a sparsely populated auditorium, and a speech that seems to have contained nothing original. Not to mention the optics of wealth/private jets/mansions/Netflix deals/weird shell companies juxtaposed against poverty in Africa.
And - not his fault - but he is really not a natural public speaker.
I wonder why he accepted the invitation and did it?

Erm Mandela is no longer with us.

Not me who has had the sheltered life obviously!

You ran all the way here to desperately start this vile thread with a negative post and you act like you don't know what you were doing. You know exactly you got your intentions of a pile on. This subject was being discussed on another thread, it was not visible enough for you, so you highlighted it with a new thread, with you as the main negativity cheerleader. You must feel great, your wish has been granted.

No, I didn’t run… 🤣

How disrespectful for you to say that about Mandela's family. Isn't it easier to be nice in general.

It’s not disrespectful at all.
Nor is it aimed at any person.

it’s an opinion that sometimes people in the public eye say what they think the public wants to hear.

And why not try being nice yourself?

TrashyPanda · 19/07/2022 17:53

That was in response to Trashypanda post.

Waves happily back.

I want to state that there is no evidence that H was not invited by the UN

Good. I'm glad we've cleared that up.

As it is, it looks like they invited him only to crap on him from a great height

Why? It was well received in many quarters. Not by you obviously.

And, to add insult to injury, they referred to him as "Prince Duke of Wessex" 😀

LondonWolf · 19/07/2022 18:51

Envy is awful.

Genuine question. What do you think people who criticise these two are envious of?

Introspection is always valuable

He’s American, so entitled to give an American perspective. I thought he made some very interesting points about Mandela’s legacy.

Jacopo · 19/07/2022 22:16

He’s American? When did that happen?

Readinginthesun · 19/07/2022 22:31

Jacopo ·

I think PP is referring to Zeesham Aleen

Jacopo · 19/07/2022 22:37

Thank you @Readinginthesun ! You can see how the confusion arose.

notanotheroneagain · 20/07/2022 08:44

The speech only tanked for extreme right wing news. There has been good reports from other channels - people taking note of his link to the relevance of climate change today which Mandela also championed.

I didn't even see him look at notes for his speech.

As for Nelson Mandela grandson. It was Piers Morgan who was trying to trick him into talking bad about Harry, not knowing that he has worked with Harry for years. He was not at all taking a pop, indeed he goes on to say they are different things that Mandela wen through and what H&M went through, he understands that.

And yes, Ndileka Mandela did talk about their long standing relationship.

They took commercial flight, btw.

Harry was watching Bad Boys and Meghan, Serena Williams. 😁

So yeah, MN, 50 posts of frothing over nothing !

@Roussette

Not strange in the slightest - just an ovbsevation based on the number of your posts on this thread 🤷‍♀️

I'm out so don't bother to reply 🙋‍♀️

I will reply if it's OK with you.

Weird to be following me like this and counting posts. Do you do that with other posters?

Funny how these post-counters never count how many times the critics post. 😂😂

The very fact that it's news - i.e. that THIS time he didn't take a private jet - says it all really.
Extremely rich people preaching to the rest of us about climate change, whilst living the carbon-gorging lifestyles they live, is never a good look. That is why Greta has been a rare success at getting through to people, she actually does practice what she preaches. But people with private jets, air-conditioned mansions, heated pools, gas guzzling SUVs...should really avoid the preaching. This is not just H&M by the way, but they do to tend to put themselves out there.

I know! And the number of threads they start!

But of course it's much harder to keep a track on the constant name changers!

I take it as a compliment. I'm noticed. And my posts are read. Win win

The very fact that it's news - i.e. that THIS time he didn't take a private jet - says it all really.

It says it all, alright.

It says that he is being singled out and targeted considering everyone else within his close family takes private jets, and no one says a damn thing.

Hellopello · 20/07/2022 14:15

So true @notanotheroneagain

They have flown commercial before.

But they do, in fact there is a whole thread right now on MN about PW and his family taking a private jet.

Yet again, any criticism of H&M is deflected with whataboutery.

The general public can be disillusioned by more than one person at a time.

They (H&M, W&K, PA..et al) are all as bad as each other.

But it is tiresome to have to annotate every critique of H&M with the acknowledgement that it's not just them that are at fault. It's also a really poor defence of their actions.

notanotheroneagain · 20/07/2022 15:05

The general public can be disillusioned by more than one person at a time.
With the help of the media, it looks like they are only disillusioned with just one couple in particular.

MN struggles to fill up the other royals critics pages. Yet, have no qualms with flooding H&M threads with criticism - even whey they did not do what they are accused of, see this thread.

What is tiresome is the nitpicking of just this couple. What is tiresome is how much people moan about it. So yeah, will call it out.
How about you stop moaning, then well also stop asking about the others.

Yes, H&M have travelled commercial lots of times before, and funny enough, that is not shouted out loud. Even today, someone on Jeremy Vine based their whole case on a private jet flight that never took place - a pity no one corrected him.

stilldazed · 20/07/2022 15:10

He wasn't invited. His PR people were lobbying and managed to get him a slot speaking based on them making a large donation. It wasn't the UN General Assembly as they are claiming, that takes place in the middle of September...It's all PR bull which people seem to fall for...
