Just what is going on? Why does Harry think he is qualified to pronounce on various political matters in another country? Why is he invited and who cares what he thinks? Am I the only one thinking he is behaving like a total numpty?

Where were all the attendees? Why was in a half empty room once again talking about his poor dm. Why does he look so dead behind the eyes?

It is horrible to call something thick - even if it is the truth.

It is equally horrible to imply that your grandparents were dreadful parents, which is why your father is a dreadful father. Moreso to pronounce this to the world, rather than on a platform such as MN.

I'd rather be called thick than a dreadful parent.

What... like Charles said about his parents in an interview? Pronounced to the world. In a Dimbleby interview.

OP I agree . A few words about Mandela plus the obligatory mention of his Mum and his wife .
No wonder there was virtually no one there . Cringe .

Yeah. I feel like he's being endlessly duped.

LifeExperience · 19/07/2022 15:18

The American news shows were laughing at him.

Readinginthesun · 19/07/2022 15:20

Well if Zeesham Aleen is not suitable to give an American perspective then I really don’t think Harry is a suitable person to weigh into political matters !

It's awful because much as I think he is a fool for how he has behaved I just can't help feeling sorry for him. His body language, his facial expression it all just seems well, not authentic at all. Which is odd because he has often wanged on about being authentic.

@Roussette

You seem a tad over invested 😬

Strange comment

Paid who and how?
Why would you believe something that don't even make practical sense.

I don't believe anything. I am merely asking if anyone has seen anything to add to the unsubstantiated rumours that H invited himself to deliver his speech. He is not the most obvious choice and is, in fact, downright dangerous, considering what he said.

You've had a sheltered life. Of all things to be gobsmacked about. You probably think Mandela cares about your opinion.

Erm Mandela is no longer with us.

ALL the news sources say he was invited by the Nelson Mandela Foundation. Obviously you know or think different. Could you show your findings?

Are you saying the Foundation are lying?

Why do you have to listen. Everyone is doing a speech. PC did one on the environment a couple of days ago, as did W recently and in April and back in October - also on the environment, then he took off on a private aircraft - apparently this is a frequent thing.
Why listen if you think it's not important. He has a charity in Southern Africa. He has been invited by Southern Africans. I think it's quite appropriate for him and them.

Mandela's daughter spoke on TV last night and mentioned the reasons behind inviting him including an unbreakable bond. Envy is awful.

The accusation of living a sheltered life followed by the assumption that Mandela is alive. I have seen it all.

I have no findings. I have stated that I have seen several comments mention the possibility that the invite may not have been as straightforwardly inviting as asserted. I assume that the UN would know in advance that having H deliver a speech would be a controversial choice, and a dangerous one, so am intrigued as to the veracity of these rumours.

Roussette · 19/07/2022 15:55

I have no findings

I'm glad we've established that. Because you're calling Mandela's daughter a liar if you insist on this idea in your head.

SueSaid · 19/07/2022 16:18

'Mandela's daughter spoke on TV last night and mentioned the reasons behind inviting him including an unbreakable bond'

Yes but why didn't they invite people to attend too? A quarter filled room just seemed a bit of shame really.

Readinginthesun · 19/07/2022 16:28

Mandela’s grandson wasn’t impressed ……

TrashyPanda · 19/07/2022 16:30

I remember when Khloe Kardashian and then husband Lamar released a perfume called “unbreakable bond”. Stated it was called that because that’s what they had.

whereas it turns out he was doing drugs and cheating on her.

Public statements are often what the public want to hear, rather than the actual truth.

How disrespectful for you to say that about Mandela's family. Isn't it easier to be nice in general.

I have one more point to make on this before I leave it alone, and, for anyone reading - I want to state that there is no evidence that H was not invited by the UN - but, why would the UN do this to him? As it is, it looks like they invited him only to crap on him from a great height.

Roussette · 19/07/2022 16:58

Good. I'm glad we've cleared that up.

As it is, it looks like they invited him only to crap on him from a great height

Why? It was well received in many quarters. Not by you obviously.
