Andrew returning to public life

"Prince Andrew — who recently paid a multimillion-pound settlement to Virginia Giuffre to keep her allegations of sexual abuse, which he denies, out of court — is set to make a controversial return to public life on Monday.

As a member of the Order of the Garter, this country’s oldest and most senior order of chivalry, Andrew, 62, will appear alongside senior members of the royal family at the Garter Day service at Windsor Castle."

CHIVALRY? Fucking chivalry?

What the actual arseholes. I'm losing my ability to be angry enough.

InTheShadeOfTheOakTree · 12/06/2022 19:14

The palace his mother probably think they can slide him back into public life on the back of the jubilee, hoping everyone will be feeling warm towards the whole family.

EatSleepReplete · 12/06/2022 19:18

I wonder how long it'll be before he starts getting booed & gets conveniently ill.

Badger1970 · 12/06/2022 19:38

I think that the RF think that he's paid up, and it's all gone away Hmm

I personally think that Charles needs to take the helm now, and I am hoping that he will be made Prince Regent after the summer. It's more than time to cut back to a few representatives that are seen to be role models and not shady as fuck.

Dominuse · 12/06/2022 19:39

It’s coming from the queen who is very Ill and frail and not understanding he is finished

antelopevalley · 12/06/2022 19:39

That relies on Charles not getting involved in political matters.
He is still doing that even though he is de facto King.

At least according to mumsnet he hasn't disgraced the Queen by emigrating to his wife's home country.

SausagePourHomme · 12/06/2022 20:27

I feel like the nation gave tacit approval for the queen's actions in paying this settlement with our money and it must seem like all is forgiven.

Exactly why I didn't participate in any of the jubilee nonsense. I know of some people who feel the same but it felt like most of the nation lost their senses to be honest.

FayeGovan · 12/06/2022 20:31

The jubilee was forced on us by a deferential media. No one i knew gave a toss. I hope Andrew is pushed centre front, might put more people off this outdated institution.

limitededitionbarbie · 12/06/2022 20:41

I think the monarchy needs to end once the Queen retires.

Can't see any benefit to any of them.

CathyorClaire · 12/06/2022 20:42

Not at all surprised to see this. Andrew has been hell bent on a return to public life ever since the disastrous Maitlis interview he thought had 'gone well'.

He's been flying kites to that effect ever since starting with packing cupcakes for the cameras NHS workers and moving on to get his florid features centre stage at his father's funeral then contriving it again by failing to follow the agenda at his memorial.

The man's deluded. There are still questions over the once again stalled sale of the vanity purchase ski shack which was trumpeted as sold and paying off the court case from the previous owner as well as his civil case settlement (must have been built with wood from the magic money tree) alongside recent questions over his and his family's links with a yet another allegedly dodgy billionaire yet he still thinks he can play royal dress-up Hmm

Happygirl79 · 12/06/2022 20:52

The Royal family are getting this so wrong. Andrew is very bad news for the family

Wonnle · 12/06/2022 21:19

Down with this sort of thing !

There's another court case looming on the ski chalet. He's being sued for £1.6M and the sale has stalled. The profits were supposedly going to be used to pay back Charles for the settling of the Guiffre US court case,
I presume Charles or Mummy will settle this debt for him as Swiss debt collection authorities are freezing the sale.

He better not try and ingratiate himself back in the public eye again. The article talks about him being 'a problem'. If he stays out of sight, the problem lessens

skilpadde · 13/06/2022 07:02

Andrew pushing himself back into public life is a massive error for the Royal family. They need to wake up to this, sharpish.

Charles, as the 73-year old King in waiting, should know that commenting on Government policy is a massive error for the Royal family. It doesn't matter if people agree with his opinion or not, he's unelected and he's absolutely crossing a line. It has to stop.

To me, a constitutional monarchy has been the least bad of the available options. But if they keep this up, I'm going to become strongly in favour of the UK becoming a republic.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/06/2022 08:11

You live and learn - I honestly thought that chalet sale had gone through, though it was probably a stupid thing to believe

Yet again the RF just can't seem to get it right, but then that's what comes from being able to do exactly as you please with no accountability at all

LapinR0se · 13/06/2022 08:17

I believe he has pulled out of the event

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/06/2022 08:19

Yes, and once king he's quite literally beyond the law, a position which may suit him very well

It was never likely the repulsive Andrew would disappear completely and I suppose it's possible Charles may try to rein him in, but it won't be easy with no moral authority, what with his own support of paedophiles and all

I'm only waiing for Fergie's next comment about what an utterly honourable man her ex is ...

NoRegretsNoTearsGoodbye · 13/06/2022 08:24

@Dominuse that’s a ridiculous excuse. Not too old and frail to attend public events but too old and frail to recognise that her son is an odious sex abuser? 🙄

I know we all have to swallow this narrative that the queen is “lovely’ but let’s for once look at the actual evidence and not the RF PR machine 🤬.

pusspuss9 · 13/06/2022 08:34

I have several books about the royal family. I don't like them but I'm fascinated as to why they are held in such deference.
Andrew in particular is exceedingly rude to his inferiors (aka us) and often gives his servants menial and belittling tasks. Telling them to fuck off when they are only doing their jobs is one of his specialities. God only knows how he has got away with it. Without his mummy he is an uneducated nobody always eager to push himself and his daughters forward for even more prestige. I hope to God he never gets back into public life.

Similar for Harry. From what I read about all the royals there has been such a level of deference towards them that they always get what they want. I have a theory about Harry's constant grumpy and frowning face. I imagine when he put this face on when he was a kid everybody rushed to see what was wrong and what they could do to put it right, so he thinks that as an adult when he does it he will get the same response - well tough shitty, it hasn't worked put like that.

So basically I hope that after the Queen departs, we all look at the royals with realistic eyes and not this God like status that they have bestowed themselves with.

Rant over

“I know we all have to swallow this narrative that the queen is “lovely’ but let’s for once look at the actual evidence and not the RF PR machine”.

Exactly this ☝️

Raspberryjam22 · 13/06/2022 08:51

Andrew has “ withdrawn” from the event . There is no way Charles and William will allow him to return to public life .

Raspberryjam22 · 13/06/2022 08:54

“At least according to mumsnet he hasn't disgraced the Queen by emigrating to his wife's home country.”

Utter rubbish .
The reason that there are so few threads about Andrew is that there is almost universal agreement that he is a repulsive , arrogant man .
The reason there are so many threads about H and M is because they are such divisive people .
2 entirely separate situations .

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/06/2022 08:56

If PA is allowed to wheedle his way back into 'public life', I think it will be a monumental blunder by the RF and will undo any warm feelings that may have been generated by the Jubilee for the Queen, as it will be down to her decision. 😱& 😡

NoRegretsNoTearsGoodbye · 13/06/2022 08:56

@pusspuss9 my only correction to your rant would be your use of the word “inferiors”! None of us are inferior to any of them - in fact I would suspect that very many of us on here and IRL have achieved far far more in our lives than the entire RF put together - while holding down jobs, raising kids and running a house.

The sycophancy baffles me completely! They are an entirely ordinary and uninspiring family 🤷‍♀️.
