Andrew returning to public life

"Prince Andrew — who recently paid a multimillion-pound settlement to Virginia Giuffre to keep her allegations of sexual abuse, which he denies, out of court — is set to make a controversial return to public life on Monday.

As a member of the Order of the Garter, this country’s oldest and most senior order of chivalry, Andrew, 62, will appear alongside senior members of the royal family at the Garter Day service at Windsor Castle."

@Roussette there is a good argument they bring in more than they cost and even if not and we became a republic that money would never make a difference to you or I or make it back to our pockets
They also employ a lot of people , we don't own all their palaces and land either like people think

SpindleSheWrote · 13/06/2022 11:11

GreenCard · 13/06/2022 11:07

That was brilliant when he said something like “the BBC are making me sing this”

Didn't Penny Lancaster say he didn't want to do it but apparently the queen requested it? He was absolutely shafted. And he still managed not to be the worst performer.

SpindleSheWrote · 13/06/2022 11:12

we don't own all their palaces and land either like people think

There's a solution to that

Lol yeah because we all know that everyone who goes on holiday to the UK only does so so that they can meet the Queen. That’s why nobody goes to France 😂
You could say the same for many national treasure celebs. Should the state fund Ed Sheeran because he has lots of fans worldwide?

Roussette · 13/06/2022 11:18

Also tourists do flock for the royal family , they want their chance to see the queen etc

When on earth can tourists see the Queen? They can't. The jubilee type stuff is the only opportunity, but I bet you most people there were watching it on their phones.

Worried you say they bring in more than they cost. That cannot be proven
There are 27 royal residences....estates, palaces, castles etc. The Queen owns a couple of them outright, the rest are at their disposal. That's obscene. Open them up to the public, let them become NT properties

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:21

@Roussette i am aware they don't doesn't stop people believing they have a chance or that the flag flying that she is home
I have worked in many tourists places

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:21

@Alltheleavesaregreen1 but I never at anytime said everybody did I ?

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:22

@SpindleSheWrote what solution is that ?

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:22

@Alltheleavesaregreen1 your one comparing a monarchy to ed Sheeran , Really ??

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:23

@Roussette oh yes national trust that barely cover their costs and are not hugely visited and many fall in to ruin

Alltheleavesaregreen1 · 13/06/2022 11:24

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:21

@Alltheleavesaregreen1 but I never at anytime said everybody did I ?

Where is the evidence that tourism would be affected by a change in the governing of our country? Presumably the palaces would be tourist attractions anyway so might actually bring in more revenue than if they are private residences. It’s just one of those things people love to trot out but it has little basis in reality.

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:24

@SpindleSheWrote he could if said no , the queen won't of forced him, not like they chop of their heads anymore

SpindleSheWrote · 13/06/2022 11:24

Anyway Andrew's a loathesome arsehole and I despise the queen's pandering to him. She's gone down in my estimation very close to the rock under which Andrew lives and should stay.

I think Charles is very aware of people's feelings but I suspect his sympathies remain entirely with himself.

That’s a fair point. At least Ed Sheeran has talent and has worked for his fame. The RF have done nothing but be born.

MaulPerton · 13/06/2022 11:25

Like it or not they are here to stay and really they don't affect us that much and even if we became a republic there would be no more money back in the publics pocket

Correct (although they go to great lengths to make it seem that they don't affect us).

They are very much here to stay.

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:25

@Alltheleavesaregreen1 where is your evidence to say it won't ? Mine is only from speaking to tourists etc as I worked in that area
But you have none either so pointless statement to make

tribpot · 13/06/2022 11:26

The Queen has a massive private income as the Duke of Lancaster. The Sovereign Grant is separate and is funded from the Crown Estate.

😂 😂 😂
“did you come here just because we have a monarchy?”
“yes”

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:27

@Alltheleavesaregreen1 the royal family have done nothing? And don' work
Really read up , they have pretty full on schedules . Why make up rubbish to back your opinion up
Your opinion you don't want them etc is fine but to say they don't work and many born in to money , have luxuries , thats life .
People seem very jealous
Personally I wouldn't want there life's for any money in the world

SpindleSheWrote · 13/06/2022 11:28

Speaking to tourists, you say? Oh my, you'll be designing clinical trails for monoclonal antibodies next.

I doubt it. I think once the queen dies, that will be it for the RF. It’s the right time (well, long overdue actually).

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:29

@Alltheleavesaregreen1 no you talk to people they say why they came, loads flocked to the jubilee from abroad
Those are just facts,
Have you worked in the sector ? In london etc , I guess not

SausagePourHomme · 13/06/2022 11:31

JuneJubilee · 13/06/2022 10:30

It wasn't paid with 'our' money at all

It was paid with private money.

There is no private money. The queens amassed wealth is ours. She doesnt have a side hustle with virgin vie

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:31

@SpindleSheWrote yes speaking to people was all the evidence I said I had , I never claimed i was right . i was asked did i have evidence I said no just speaking to tourists and having friends who still work at airport and what gets discussed
I never claimed otherwise and the person who asked for evidence had zero to back up their thoughts either
So what its your point other than thinking you are being clever and sarcastic.?

Alltheleavesaregreen1 · 13/06/2022 11:31

I’m sure we’ll cope without that revenue stream. Many other countries seem to manage just fine. Recently went to Dublin, which was rammed. And they don’t have a royal family - shocking!
