Andrew returning to public life

"Prince Andrew — who recently paid a multimillion-pound settlement to Virginia Giuffre to keep her allegations of sexual abuse, which he denies, out of court — is set to make a controversial return to public life on Monday.

As a member of the Order of the Garter, this country’s oldest and most senior order of chivalry, Andrew, 62, will appear alongside senior members of the royal family at the Garter Day service at Windsor Castle."

The more out of touch they become, the more chance of public hatred/indifference increasing. The next generation coming along couldn't give a shit about them anyway.

HM is above the law, she is of a Royal generation who wield absolute control of everything they do.

Charles is not popular, he epitomises the toff, plummy accent, large estate, never worked a day in his life. Not a great example of making your own way really.

Their days are numbered. I don't mean there will be a republic any time soon, just that they just won't matter to anyone anymore. Resentment may build due to their lifestyles, eh... just because they were born too.

I lost ALL respect for HM when she paid off VG on behalf of her son. That did it for me. Charles is no better, he is not that intelligent and is under educated compared with most of us, i.e. the university of life. I personally am sick of the lot of them.

@Alltheleavesaregreen1 no they don't but they have a lot of other things to offer
People visit countries for many many different reasons, if they all offered the same , be pointless travelling wouldn't it

We also have LOTS of other things to offer so I think we will cope.

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:33

@SausagePourHomme they do have private money , they own land
Have you not heard of the duchy estates ? They don't have their money from you

SpindleSheWrote · 13/06/2022 11:34

I think the more that queenie carries on with this adoration of Andrew farce the more perilous the royal family's position becomes.

She's had her jubilee, a nice bit of playtime. Now it's back to the world of grown ups and public opinion. She is squandering the good opinion of the public every single time she appears to be pandering to her vile son.

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:34

@Alltheleavesaregreen1 like what ? What really do we have , what do people come for , can you show me the evidence , what is the most visited city in the uk , what is the most visited place ?

Where did they get these massive estates from, do you know?

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:36

@SpindleSheWrote on here may in real life not so much
Did you see the parties and the crowds
Mumsnet is very anti royal , mumsnet often doesn't reflect real life in many ways as its a small demographic

Alltheleavesaregreen1 · 13/06/2022 11:36

Harry and Wills went to one of the most exclusive schools in the country and Hazza could still only manage a B (through cheating) and a D at A-level. Prince Edward had to have a special history degree designed for him at Cambridge because he was too dim to pass the real one. He got in with Cs and Ds when normal people had to get As. They are unimpressive on every level.

Apparently Windsor Park but no reason why people can’t visit that if the monarchy is abolished. We also have stunning countryside, beaches, cathedrals, museums etc etc etc
okay you told me that Ireland has lots else to offer and now you suggest we don’t. What does Ireland have that we do not?

Lesserspottedmama · 13/06/2022 11:40

Always liked the RF until the last couple of years and now I despise them all to be honest. Well no, I feel indifferent to most of them so perhaps that’s not strictly true. The jubilee turned my stomach, I took part in nothing and watched none of it, it’s baffling to me how people could get on board with it. I try and tell myself hardly anyone cared or likes them now but the amount of flags and bunting in my village told a different tale.
Regarding Andrew I believe Charles and his family see him for what he is - a disgusting pervert - so once his besotted old mother has died then hopefully we’ll hear no more about him. I have nothing positive to say about the Queen since she paid out that money for him, I’ll be glad when she’s gone and we can forget about her - she’s tarnished herself forever and won’t be remembered fondly IMO.

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:41

@HydraWater where did you get all your money from?
It doesn't matter now where its from , you can't take it back
Some royals run businesses and have jobs too
If you inherited money from your parents , someone can't take it back or if someone had land in the family for years it can't be taken back because it was bought with family money or land won in years gone by etc
People are really scrapping low
What do you think will happen if we become a republic that we will strip them of everything and say heres the number for the housing at the council
The land they have owned for yeArs within the family

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:41

@Alltheleavesaregreen1 I think the royal family own windsor park

antelopevalley · 13/06/2022 11:43

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:03

@SausagePourHomme at least get your facts right it was paid with their private money not taxpayers
They are pretty wealthy and pay a lot of tax themselves

They are immune from lots of taxes, not least Corporation tax and inheritance tax.
They claim the Duchy is a private business to avoid public scrutiny and claim it is public when it comes to taxes.

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:43

@Alltheleavesaregreen1 or maybe that just prooves that money cannot buy cleverness, plenty of people in life fail exams but go in to do well
Do you only define people as worthy if they have an a in maths or english etc

antelopevalley · 13/06/2022 11:44

@worriedatthistime If I inherit lots of money I would pay inheritance tax. By law this does not apply to the Royal Family.

OP posts:
worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:45

@antelopevalley as do most rich people and companies in the uk , if its not illegal then nothing is wrong , blame giverments for so many loopholes
They still pay a lot in taxes though more than many other rich people or celebrities

antelopevalley · 13/06/2022 11:46

@Lesserspottedmama I have zero time for the Royal Family. But as a family, we went to our street party. Not because it was about the Jubilee. But because it was a nice get-together and the road was closed allowing all the children to play safely on the street.

Alltheleavesaregreen1 · 13/06/2022 11:28

I doubt it. I think once the queen dies, that will be it for the RF. It’s the right time (well, long overdue actually).

Hope over reality. People have been saying this for generations. There are so many of them that they can afford to banish a transgressor for a bit until things cool off while another family member is brought to the fore to take their place. We can see this happening now with Zara and Mike, Sophie and Edward, and the two York sisters, who had been kept away from the public because of their parents. Even Fergie is getting coverage about attending 'events'. Time passes, the act diminishes. The actual system remains.

antelopevalley · 13/06/2022 11:49

@worriedatthistime But they are not using loopholes others use. By law, they simply do not have to pay the tax. They don't even have to employ lawyers to use loopholes.
They do not even have to have their wills public so they can hide just how super-rich they are. And then they have the cheek to visit foodbanks for photo opportunities when a tiny amount of their wealth to a foodbank would be life changing.

Roussette · 13/06/2022 11:49

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:23

@Roussette oh yes national trust that barely cover their costs and are not hugely visited and many fall in to ruin

No idea where you live but the NT properties in my county are hugely popular and well maintained. As it is we are paying for maintenance of all these estates and castles with no revenue coming in. Imagine if they were open to the public instead of huge running costs in case Charles wanted to visit one of them in 2025

As for the two Duchies, well I don't know where to start. They are either Crown estates or public estates depending on what law Charles or the Queen wants to not adhere to

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:50

@antelopevalley yes because it would be too vast and they are the monarchy of the uk its really that simple of course they will have different rules
Many a rich people get out of inheritance tax, the likes of you and I do not as we don't have enough to set up trusts
Well actually I will never pay inheritance tax as I will never inherit above the threshold
Thing is people can moan on here all they like but we will not become a republic anytime soon . After the queen it will slim down and things will change generation upon generation, other european countries still have a royal family but a much more slimmed down version

antelopevalley · 13/06/2022 11:50

@worriedatthistime Why are you making things up about the National Trust that are not true? Their properties are very popular.

Prince Andrew is a deeply average man with zero emotional intelligence.

He just can't fathom why most people find him repugnant. Unfortunately, neither can the Queen as he is her favourite.

Thank goodness that Princes Charles & William can at least 'read the room'
