Andrew returning to public life

"Prince Andrew — who recently paid a multimillion-pound settlement to Virginia Giuffre to keep her allegations of sexual abuse, which he denies, out of court — is set to make a controversial return to public life on Monday.

As a member of the Order of the Garter, this country’s oldest and most senior order of chivalry, Andrew, 62, will appear alongside senior members of the royal family at the Garter Day service at Windsor Castle."

I SO wish we could get this thread into the hands of the Queen, Charles, William and also the more sensible of their personal advisers.

A little bit of unvarnished MN thinking would do them no harm and, hopefully, given them an insight of what ordinary people think of them and Andrew in particular. 🌹

NoRegretsNoTearsGoodbye · 13/06/2022 08:58

According to the latest reports Andrew will be there just not in the procession. Slowly easing his way back in 🤬.

NoRegretsNoTearsGoodbye · 13/06/2022 09:00

@Newestname002 i genuinely don’t think they’d care. There are enough of members of the public who adore them unquestioningly fir them not to care about those of us who continually argue “but the Emperor has no clothes”!

“At least according to mumsnet he hasn't disgraced the Queen by emigrating to his wife's home country.”

Utter rubbish .
The reason that there are so few threads about Andrew is that there is almost universal agreement that he is a repulsive , arrogant man .
The reason there are so many threads about H and M is because they are such divisive people .
2 entirely separate situations .

Not quite true. The OP posted over 12 hours ago and only in the last few minutes has he withdrawn. In that time there were just over 20 posts on this most condemning. Now had it been H&M returning there would have been meltdown.

Raspberryjam22 · 13/06/2022 09:05

From what I have read he will join the family for lunch . That’s all .
Charles and Andrew have never been close so A has zero chance of wheedling his way back into public life plus William ( apparently) barely acknowledges him .
I also read that A is- again- trying to persuade HM to give Beatrice and Eugenie working royal status . I cannot see that happening if C and W have anything to do with it . After Eugenie cropped Camilla and Catherine out of her Jubilee photo , I doubt if she is very popular !

PineappleWilson · 13/06/2022 09:14

I heard on the radio this morning, I think they were reviewing the newspapers, that Charles and William had vetoed his return to the Garter role.

antelopevalley · 13/06/2022 09:17

I agree that people are more outraged by Harry and Meghan latest Tabloid outrage than by Andrew.
And Andrew keeps trying to get back into public life.

I thought I read PA was being sent away to Scotland

@Dominuse that’s a ridiculous excuse. Not too old and frail to attend public events but too old and frail to recognise that her son is an odious sex abuser? 🙄

I know we all have to swallow this narrative that the queen is “lovely’ but let’s for once look at the actual evidence and not the RF PR machine 🤬.

But maybe she believes him and doesn't believe he is an odious sex abuser.

I don't think he is. If he had sex with her she was of age in the UK.

I think he's loathsome for many reasons but I don't believe her story.

He should have dropped Epstein after the first conviction. I believe he is a very stupid man but not a sexual predator.

Emm , well I doubt if he would be welcome here !

megletthesecond · 13/06/2022 09:26

rasp I did notice that C & C were cropped out of that photo. Ouch.

I don't think Charles and William will let Andrew back in. Quite right too.

Classicblunder · 13/06/2022 09:32

From comments I see in other forums, I don't think there is universal condemnation of Andrew at all. I think a fair number of people think he was hard done by - it is a real shame that Virginia Guiffre took the settlement as I think the court case would have made it clearer cut.

Mamamia7962 · 13/06/2022 09:32

Prince Charles and Prince William are well aware that if the Monarchy is to survive then Prince Andrew must not be allowed to have his titles back or attend public duties. I believe they will continue to block any attempts made by him.

I second that @Raspberryjam22 . Seriously, what on earth does the Palace think he can do to be useful in Scotland ?

EdithWeston · 13/06/2022 09:38

I've just had a news pop up saying there will be no return to public duties.

Things like Garter ceremony he'll be able to go to unless someone strips him of the Order. But this happens annually, and who has even spotted that it happened at all, other than this year?

It's a private ceremony within Windsor Castle, isn't it? Members and their guests only?

SpindleSheWrote · 13/06/2022 09:39

He will still attend a private lunch with the Queen and other members of the order reports the Mail Online. Not really very private, then. More that it's invitation only.

I don't know who the other members of this bonkers Order of Chivalry are, but if were one of them I might not be too thrilled about this. The man's odious, and I wouldn't want to be forced into the presence of a smugly unrepentant friend-of-a-paedophile.

StaunchMomma · 13/06/2022 09:40

I do hope the royal fanatics who turn up to watch give him a good booing.

The public just don't want him. The sooner his ego realises that, the better!

EdithWeston · 13/06/2022 09:40

Be well out of sight

He won't be doing anything, other than living there in a kind of internal exile. Plenty of properties on the Balmoral estate he could use

ExtremelyDedicated · 13/06/2022 09:40

I don't think Charles and William will let him back in either, the comments in The TImes article are universally damning too. Not just him either, they have made it clear for years that the working RF will be slimmed down, Beatrice and Eugenie have never been working Royals, why should they suddenly become them now? We don't need any more.

Gammon!!

megletthesecond · 13/06/2022 09:42

I did wonder what Scotland have done to deserve him.

viques · 13/06/2022 09:45

its a warm day today and those garter robes look heavy and uncomfortable, I expect there will be a few sweaty brows on show, I reckon PA doesn’t dare risk being one of them after swearing blind he doesn’t sweat as part of his “ wasn’t me gov” defence!

Newchapter2022 · 13/06/2022 09:48

Absolutely no way should Andrew by pushing himself back in to the spotlight. The public certainly won’t stand for it.

SpindleSheWrote · 13/06/2022 09:48

Thank you, @EdithWeston. Poor Mary Peters, surrounded by that lot.

The BBC says that Andrew will also be at the investitures as well as the lunch. One of them is of Tony Blair.

What a shower.
