Why did Harry and Meghan walk in alone?

I have had a very busy weekend so have only been able to catch snippets of the jubilee weekend events but noticed how Harry and Meghan walked into the service together, seemingly after everybody else, including those sitting in front and behind them?
Why was this? I understand why they didn't walk in with the serving royals but it seemed strange that their entrance stood out so much.

I think it must have been incredibly hard for someone as independent as Meghan to try and accept that she had to always walk behind Catherine and William. It is utterly bizarre when you think of it.

Maybe easier to accept when you’re born into the aristocracy or even, marrying into the family at a younger age?
Still hard to adjust to.

Seems like the two of them are very happy to accept status protocol when it puts them ahead of others. But not so happy when others like William and Kate are ahead of them.

Even when you’re not a royal family member though, life is absolutely full of status protocols. We are brought up to defer to our parents, our teachers, our bosses. We learn that older children get privileges before younger ones, your age will often determine whether or not you do something, you give up seats to people who need them more, you queue so people get served in turn, you sit according to seating plans at weddings and formal dinners etc.

Granted the royal family ones are more obvious than most of these, but it’s not like Meghan would not have realised that there are rules in place that you abide by. She wasn’t the top billed actor on Suits, she must have realised her status in that hierarchy (and all reports, she did).

Hollywood is equally full of protocols and forget them at your peril.
