Why did Harry and Meghan walk in alone?

I have had a very busy weekend so have only been able to catch snippets of the jubilee weekend events but noticed how Harry and Meghan walked into the service together, seemingly after everybody else, including those sitting in front and behind them?
Why was this? I understand why they didn't walk in with the serving royals but it seemed strange that their entrance stood out so much.

Do I know the ballpark in which couture Dior costs? Yes.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/06/2022 12:18

What arrangement does she have with Dior?

Serenster · 10/06/2022 12:19

You tell me, since you appear to know that she has one.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/06/2022 12:20

I have no idea 🤷‍♀️ I'm not saying I know how much she paid.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/06/2022 12:21

But I do know that lots of arrangements exist.

Roussette · 10/06/2022 12:21

Do we know the price tags on the rest of the RFs outfits? that we pay for
I do think Meghan can wear what she wants, what she feels comfortable in, what is appropriate for a church service

sunglassesonthetable · 10/06/2022 12:26

She seems to have a good relationship with Dior. And wears Dior ?Is that the issue ?

I suppose she is a grown up woman with her own money. Personally It doesn't bother me.

I like that the home grown royals living here favour British designers. I love that. But she's not British and lives abroad.

Serenster · 10/06/2022 12:15

Not Pink Tonic, but I mention, mildly, that wearing head to toe custom Dior will mean Meghan will have spent tens of thousands of pounds more on her outfit than any other person attending the service. It might look discreet, but that comes at a frankly staggering price tag.

It's her money so it's her business.

Serenster · 10/06/2022 12:29

For those who might not know what a couture Dior outfit costs, here is Meghan’s Mirror (a very pro-Meghan site, one that is in fact rumoured to have links to her team as it is extremely well-informed about her) on Dior after Meghan wore a couture caftan from the design house previously (rumoured cost: £90,000).

www.meghansmirror.com/special-feature/meghan-markle-style-deep-dive/meghan-markle-haute-couture/

That site says that “a Dior Haute Couture “simple” dress cost between €40,000 and €60,000”. Meghan was, we are told, wearing a skirt, top, coat, gloves and hat, so a fair number of items from he designer. It doesn’t really matter what she paid for them - she turned up wearing an ensemble that people would know was worth north of £50,000. That can, quite reasonably, be termed an ostentatious outfit. To me, anyway.

(I’m not saying the others were dressed from the bargain basement - the dress that Beatrice and Sophie Winkleman wore retails for nearly £1000 - way outside my budget! But a couture Dior ensemble is a whole different league).

Serenster · 10/06/2022 12:31

Of course, but if she chooses to spend so much money on an outfit, it is not unreasonable for other people to have an opinion on that choice.

chiffchaffchiff · 10/06/2022 12:34

I suspect she's allowed to borrow outfits now. The RF aren't allowed to borrow or accept free outfits but since she's left "the firm" side of things, I don't think they can stop her. It's great advertising for any designer, well worth several thousand if not tens of thousands.

Serenster · 10/06/2022 12:37

Yes, @chiffchaffchiff I should more accurately have said if she chooses to spend, or give the impression that she has spent, so much money on an outfit…

(one handy consequence of no longer having a social media account, I guess, is that she has no obligation to include #AD when posting photos of her wearing gifted or subsidised items 😉)

queenofarles · 10/06/2022 12:41

All of these prices are on application , it can be more or less, I was quoted nearly €60k for my wedding dress almost 17 years ago! I bet it’s double if not triple that amount now,but these prices are for us ordinary folks, I think famous people get some sort of special prices in exchange for the publicity.

Because it cost a lot or because of what it looked like?

I would love to know what some on here (not you Serenster) would like her to have worn. What would be acceptable or even, heaven forbid... praised

Given she’s no longer part of the royal family aand not subject to the rules on not borrowing clothes, it’s much more likely to be a loan or rent than a buy.

LA has exclusive agencies you can rent the latest designer stuff from.

PinkTonic · 10/06/2022 12:53

so do I. I just don’t think it is appropriate to wear an outfit like that to a church service, especially one to honour someone else. It’s a bit like wearing something really out there which will demand a lot of attention to someone’s wedding, to put it in a more normal context. Gauche at best but probably not. She’s been around the circle long enough now to know what she was doing.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/06/2022 12:59

Of course, but if she chooses to spend so much money on an outfit, it is not unreasonable for other people to have an opinion on that choice.

All about the opinions on here 😉!

It's a moot point how much she actually paid as there is probably an ' arrangement'.

And interesting as Dior has designed for the RF for ever.

Even in ordinary family gatherings there will be people who get annoyed at some guests 'being above themselves' because of what they wear. There is someone who mentions that in the Style & Beauty thread right now.

But don't you feel just a teeny weeny Hyacinth Bouquet thinking like that. 🤷‍♀️ After all you have researched it. And you don't actually know the £££ arrangements.

And it looks perfectly innocuous.

What was she doing?

If it was a loaned outfit, if it was not the cost quoted on here (no one knows) what was wrong?
Very many others wore coat dresses, what was wrong with her coat dress?

just don’t think it is appropriate to wear an outfit like that to a church service, especially one to honour someone else
Others wore similar, pics have been linked. Were theirs not appropriate too? What was wrong with hers compared to hers?

I would love to know what you would like her to have worn, what would be acceptable in your eyes?

Roussette · 10/06/2022 13:00

Hers compared to theirs

sunglassesonthetable · 10/06/2022 13:01

You mean an expensive Dior outfit?

Serenster · 10/06/2022 13:16

I really don’t see any need for the sarcastic tone and insults. I didn’t need to research it, I know what couture costs. But since expressing this opinion gets you attacked on this thread I posted a link to explain to others who might not have this background knowledge.

And as I said, it doesn’t matter what Meghan actually paid for the outfit. As no arrangement has been disclosed, she is choosing to give the impression that she has paid for the outfit herself.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/06/2022 13:16

@queenofarles Wow Did you have the Dior wedding dress in the end?

sunglassesonthetable · 10/06/2022 13:22

Not an insult. A genuine question.

'Hyacinth Bouquet' was the best way to sum it up tbh. The outfit looks perfectly innocuous after all, but feeling the need to judge it by how much it cost or who designed it.

That's what happening here. And it's how it would make me feel.

Serenster · 10/06/2022 13:28

So your genuine question, with no intention to be insulting whatsoever, to me is do I feel like Hyacinth Bouquet (it’s actually Bucket, by the way. 😉 ) for knowing about the luxury fashion market? My genuine response - no, not in the slightest.

SenecaFallsRedux · 10/06/2022 13:28

And interesting as Dior has designed for the RF for ever.

And their most iconic handbag is named for Diana.
