Why did Harry and Meghan walk in alone?

knittedwithme · 05/06/2022 07:08

I have had a very busy weekend so have only been able to catch snippets of the jubilee weekend events but noticed how Harry and Meghan walked into the service together, seemingly after everybody else, including those sitting in front and behind them?
Why was this? I understand why they didn't walk in with the serving royals but it seemed strange that their entrance stood out so much.

Meghan has had the sleeves shortened and had the coat made in white.
The white is nicer than the greige in my opinion.

Genuinely intrigued by this. Can those in fashion explain why anyone would choose a fairly standard coat like this (as in, there are lots and lots of mac type coats) and then ask for it in a different colour, different arm lengths, no pocket and to be done up to the neck. As in, ask for - what seems to me - to be essentially a totally different coat altogether.

Does everyone who wears haute couture make loads of changes like this?

It's a whole different world...

Forinara · 08/06/2022 19:06

Yes, except I think this was Dior RTW altered and even garment alteration experts have their limits. If she is being loaned the outfits by the designers then if they altered it to suit her body shape properly then they might as well give it to her for free because it deviates so far from the range of normal shapes and nobody else would ever fit in it. Hence, it is altered a little but not enough to make her look good in it.

TooMuchBoozeTooManyBoos · 08/06/2022 19:13

So many questions Grin

If it's RTW (ready to wear?) then that's even more reason, to me, to just find a coat you like already rather than do so much altering.

Or is that Dior is such a big name so it's worth using something from them as the foundation - even if it means changing it so much?

It is very easy to fall into that cycle especially if you have loudly proclaimed that you are too good for the high street labels as she did pre-Harry when she threw a Sayonara Zara party😶

JADS · 08/06/2022 19:28

Shows what I know. I liked her coat especially the sleeve length. In the original runway pictures, it looks like a boring trench coat and I thought it looked much better on her. I also think Meghan does hats well. I liked her hat and the blue and white one she wore the day before.

I will stay away from the Style and Beauty pages!

I think that’s how it works. Personally I can’t fathom looking at that collection and that coat being the object of my desire. So many beautiful things.

Basilbrushgotfat · 08/06/2022 19:36

I can't believe there are so many posts discussing Megan's body shape.

sunglassesonthetable · 08/06/2022 19:38

She does not look right in couture either (unless in a clever still shot) because there is only so much you can do to the original prototype design before it becomes a completely unrecognizable garment from the original.

You what? 'there is only so much you can do' This is hilarious. You make her sound like the hunch back of Notre Dame or something. 🤣 She's a great looking young woman with a great figure. And yep she looks as good in couture as anyone else.

What would be best for her is high street sizing such as M&S where they make allowance such as "petite" "wider fit" etc. It would fit better

Queen doesn't seem to shop in M&S despite being a shorter wider fit. Or maybe she does.

Mumsnut · 08/06/2022 19:38

The runway (haute couture) version is very much a maxi length and has patch pockets which Meghan's version doesn't.

I wonder if this is a RTW for spring / summer which has been been re-imagined from the HC original?

PreparationPreparationPrep · 08/06/2022 19:39

@Forinara
It would be interesting to see and critique your body shape and choice in outfits. Exaggerations to make your point I think.
granted Meghan is not a stick insect but I'd hardly say she has thick waist. But I guess your choice of words emphasises your points to some posters.

Well seems they came over and didn’t do anything wrong
so bottom of barrel is being scraped

What nonsense. They're falling over themselves to have an outfit at the jubilee.

I was actually reading your posts re the fashion input. I have no for/against axe to grind re Meghan herself.

"because it deviates so far from the range of normal shapes and nobody else would ever fit in it. "

No she's not a freak. And yep they probably give it to her anyway. 🙄

sunglassesonthetable · 08/06/2022 19:49

And @Forinara you realise Dior want her to look good in their clothes.

sunglassesonthetable · 08/06/2022 19:51

😂 yep Dior would be 👍🏻 with that.

sunglassesonthetable · 08/06/2022 20:00

still laughing about she should stick to M&S .....

Forinara · 08/06/2022 20:16

If she is borrowing from a third party then Dior would have no control over the fact that she is not showing off their brand. Having their name dropped is probably a positive thing for them either way . It makes all the other doyennes feel that they can pull it off a lot better than her. I still think she should have chose a British designer (like the others) but I get a sense of deja-vu there.

Serenster · 08/06/2022 20:20

You are wrong. Couture is aspirational so it is always, always designed to flatter the perfect shape It will generally be admired (and bought) by larger, older women as you identified, who will aspire to look as good (but cannot).

You do realise the Queen wears pure couture? Designed specifically for her, and made to her measurements.

sunglassesonthetable · 08/06/2022 20:51

It was Dior Haute Couture. You don't half talk some nonsense.

sunglassesonthetable · 08/06/2022 20:58

No Queenie, Camilla et al should be shopping on the high street, possibly M&s because they need " shorter" and "wider" according to some fashion experts. 🙄

chiffchaffchiff · 08/06/2022 21:01

I don't think she suits the conservative royal style of thick fabrics and high necklines. She looks stunning when she avoids high necklines (Except the high neck cape dresses she wore for a while, she looked great in them).

Why did Harry and Meghan walk in alone?

Oi, Forinara babe, get that Greige Coat Dress from out the back, Sparkles wants it for the Platty Joobs. She can't find a THING at M&S. ( Rolls Eyes) We'll have to wack a few stitches in it to make do because we need it for Amanda Holden on BGT next week but should be Ok.....

Back to Phone

"Well Ms Markle, I suppose it is a special occasion . But if you could have it back to us (checks TV listing ) Next Wednesday. Ta,"

🙄😁🤣

MM has a relationship with Dior. There's no "3rd party."They have dressed her often. There's no 'making do' whatever you think of how she looked.

To be fair it’s not surprising that people sometimes think her clothes must be borrowed when they’re so badly fitted. It’s happened quite often actually.

Goodness me MN two babies in quick succession and we are body shaming her

Who thinks that?

And nothing wrong with borrowed.

Forinara just talking nonsense.

What Meghan is wearing is Dior OTP (RTW) as I stated. She has had some alterations done but obviously not enough to get away with it.

She does not look right in couture either (unless in a clever still shot) because there is only so much you can do to the original prototype design before it becomes a completely unrecognizable garment from the original.

What would be best for her is high street sizing such as M&S where they make allowance such as "petite" "wider fit" etc. It would fit better even if it does not provide her with the ego trip.

So she should buy Florence and Fred then. That's what you implied.

Goodness me MN two babies in quick succession and we are body shaming her

Exactly. I thought she looked fab. But lets pick her outfit and body shape to pieces because after all, it's Meghan
