Why did Harry and Meghan walk in alone?

I have had a very busy weekend so have only been able to catch snippets of the jubilee weekend events but noticed how Harry and Meghan walked into the service together, seemingly after everybody else, including those sitting in front and behind them?
Why was this? I understand why they didn't walk in with the serving royals but it seemed strange that their entrance stood out so much.

Their ratings are rock bottom everywhere for good reason

Have you a source for that? They seem very popular over in the US and were well received here (apart from in some places of course)

This makes me laugh. 👆 What ratings? Wot, worse than Coronation St?

Couture is designed for the long, slim body type. High street fashion is cut for shorter, conventional body types of which she is a prime example. That is why you need to heavily alter OTP outfits in this case or accept that you look wrong in them.

This is utter nonsense! Couture is made to measure, and should therefore be cut for, fit perfectly, and flatter the wearer for whom it has been custom made. Check out Sheikha Mozah who wears head to toe couture, often straight off the run way - she is tall, and well-corseted, with a lovely figure but definitely not model-slim. Or Nicola Coughlan who has been dressed largely by Valentino couture of late. Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg generally wears bespoke Elie Saab for her evening events. Both those ladies have shorter, curvier figures.

(Having said this, I definitely thought Meghan’s coat was too tight on her top half. The fabric was pulling, the waist was bunching and the storm flap at the back sticking up. Now Meghan may have wanted it fitted like that, but objectively, these all mean it’s too small).

I suspect this is referring to the most recent YouGov Poll released just before the jubilee. From their own summary:

In this latest round of figures, Harry and Meghan's popularity has hit new lows. Harry now holds a net score of -26 among the British public, compared to -25 from the previous survey on 16-17 March. Now, just one in three (32%) see Harry in a positive light compared to over half (58%) who think of him negatively.”

Swaying you said everywhere
Not just a right wing paper

Swayingpalmtrees · 08/06/2022 14:19

It is not just here or the US - we are talking about their worldwide ratings. It seems the Oprah interview was very damaging.

Good searching! Well done! There's plenty on the other side of the coin out there! Completely opposite view

No one has ever asked me. 😂

Roussette · 08/06/2022 14:23

What do you mean by ratings?
Can I vote anywhere lol

Not sure if you actually read that article Roussette, but the poll it referred to was of just 429 people with one vote each…and Prince Andrew was voted the 5th most popular Royal! (Behind Meghan, Harry, the Queen and Kate). As the article itself makes it clear, I’m not sure that would be considered statistically significant…😂

Roussette · 08/06/2022 14:37

Yes Serenster I knew the numbers thanks. 😊
Yougov polls vary, I've seen them as little as 600 respondents
I was illustrating a point

Just read somewhere that it was a white coat to symbolise peace - which is a nice sentiment.

I do agree that it didn’t fit properly and maybe her tugging at the collar is where the where the mic-ed up nonsense came from.

It looked like a vintage coat dress - sort of Jackie O - 50s/60s which I loved but thought the hat was somehow wrong - more a 70’s vibe? But maybe that was deliberate so that it didn’t look too much of a period piece?

Roussette · 08/06/2022 14:45

I didn't like the hat. I have a sun hat exactly like that, different colour. I thought there could've been a nicer hat to go with the outfit

Mumsnut · 08/06/2022 14:46

Back to clothes

I think the DoS is seduced by the beauty of a garment on the hanger/model/page, and hence sometimes make choices that don’t flatter her optimally. ( I do the same, for what it’s worth).

But her purely aesthetic instincts are excellent. Sometimes the fit isn’t perfect and I’m guessing this is because the garments are on loan and she cannot have them altered. But she gives us a good variety of ‘looks’

DoC on the other hand, knows what suits her best - the fit and flare, coat-dress category - and goes for it again and again …

…. and again and again and again

hence she is always very good to look at, perfectly turned out, but a bit dull.

The coat in the show and as worn.

@PinkTonic you are obsessed but thanks for the pics !
If it's a poll count you are gunning for I actually think it looks better on Meghan - I know everyone fawns over size 6 clothes models I can't see the attraction myself.

Mumsnut · 08/06/2022 16:15

It is very loose and shapeless on the model. Better on Meghan. But would perhaps be best of all somewhere in between? Meghan is wearing the neck done up also, which is much more effective.

Snog · 08/06/2022 16:19

Meghan has had the sleeves shortened and had the coat made in white.
The white is nicer than the greige in my opinion.

We’ll have to agree to disagree. It’s clearly too tight on Meghan. Lumpy and puckered. Don’t understand how anyone would see otherwise but each to their own. Plus some people are posting on these threads all day every day but I’m obsessed?

You are wrong. Couture is aspirational so it is always, always designed to flatter the perfect shape It will generally be admired (and bought) by larger, older women as you identified, who will aspire to look as good (but cannot).

What Meghan is wearing is Dior OTP (RTW) as I stated. She has had some alterations done but obviously not enough to get away with it.

She does not look right in couture either (unless in a clever still shot) because there is only so much you can do to the original prototype design before it becomes a completely unrecognizable garment from the original.

What would be best for her is high street sizing such as M&S where they make allowance such as "petite" "wider fit" etc. It would fit better even if it does not provide her with the ego trip.

Forinara · 08/06/2022 18:58

Plus complete avoidance of belts. If you are thick around the middle, adding a belt emphasizes it rather than creates an illusion of having a waist. She is keen on the belts.
