I've read so much about how she is frail/dying/already dead etc. and I'm so pleased to see her looking happy and animated at the Royal Windsor Horse Show even if she is still not walking around. I hope she will be with us for many more years.

^^ This.

There would still be busbys, marching bands, gun salutes, pomp and ceremony even if there wasn't a RF.

Those guards are guards because of the monarch. If there’s nobody to guard, what would be the point?
The gun salutes are for royal birthdays and anniversaries. You might occasionally have one commemorating the centenary of a world war but that’s about it.

Lovely to see Her Majesty looking well and happy. She should continue to do things her own way. She's committed to not 'stepping down' and won't unless there really is no choice. Meanwhile, the family are 'stepping up.' Being a monarch isn't a job, it's a God-given responsibility and she's aced it. Trust her.

Prince Charles is doing so much better - I don't think he'd be an unpopular king. Especially with Camilla at his side.

William and Catherine are amazing at the moment. There's a photo where she has her back to him, I wasn't happy with the body language so had a look through a lot of recent photographs. They're doing fine. They get along. They're shaping up nicely to be king and queen in due course. I wish she had just a little flesh, but I can understand that in her role, photographed daily, she'd want to put herself outside any possibility of criticism.

There are some seriously nasty people on here, after 70 years HM is working from home, as are millions of others still, even those who are perfectly fit and able to get into work(Whitehall are you listening )
I sure a 96 year old is allowed to have some off time.
I can just imagine the glee that will enfold on here when she does go

thereisonlyoneofme · 14/05/2022 18:21

unfurl I meant, why still no edit button with the wonderful new upgrade

Best not to engage. Some people are not interested in facts or debate

The Queen made it quite clear when she was crowned that she would serve for LIFE. She's sticking to that pledge, and doing her best to fulfil the duties she still can. It's a good idea for Charles to start stepping up now so he's fully prepared anyway.
Some people seem to confuse being a Monarch with being a Managing Director of a company or something.

Going back to @Roussette 's link. Seriously, you and other posters here won't hear of using the
Daily Mail as a source for anything, but you're fine with the Taxpayers' Alliance and their documents? Do you know anything about them?

JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue · 14/05/2022 19:07

Its nice to see her looking happy but I do think she or her advisers are being silly if they don't want her seen in a wheelchair. We don't care and I recall the QM using a golf cart and as a teen I thought that was cool.

Eh? You sound over invested.

Yes , that may be true, but I do not think that the Royal Family are too fussed about what they do benefiting the public.

Samcro · 14/05/2022 19:31

I always find it interesting when people state that William and Kate are well liked
or are the future
I think most young people who are struggling to buy a home find them and the rest irrelevant.
same with families that are using food banks

PoseyFlump · 13/05/2022 12:33

Hang in there Lizzie as long as you can!! Hopefully Charlie will peg it first.

yes!

some of these posts, honestly!!!

she’s an elderly lady and she’s a literal Queen, if anyone can pick and choose which duties to delegate it is the literal monarch.

I 100% believe the monarchy should end after Queen Elizabeth, but I also hope she lives significantly longer and remains our monarch for as long as possible, I think she is wonderful.

And her sister Princess Margaret, she was quite happy to use one when she burnt her feet in the bath

PineMartenPeanutbutter · 14/05/2022 20:49

Margaret wasn’t the Queen. The Queen in a wheelchair is a quite different situation.

PineMartenPeanutbutter · 14/05/2022 20:49

Why?
Queen's sister, Princess Margaret, no idea why that's different

PineMartenPeanutbutter · 14/05/2022 20:56

Don’t you? Well, I can’t explain if you don’t understand.

Roussette · 14/05/2022 21:00

Thank you for your passive aggressive comment.

I'll try and explain shall I?

Someone very very close to the monarch is ok with being in a wheelchair because she needs it.
That's it. Hope you understand where I'm coming from

lemongreentea · 14/05/2022 21:04

Whats wrong with her being in a wheelchair? Is she immortal or does being seen in a wheelchair means shes just a normal person like the rest of us ans God did not infact appoint her as a queen.

Absolutely absurd. Shes 96 and old, frail and needs a wheelchair so should just use one. Thats what everyone elses eldery and frails parents and grandparents do.
