I've read so much about how she is frail/dying/already dead etc. and I'm so pleased to see her looking happy and animated at the Royal Windsor Horse Show even if she is still not walking around. I hope she will be with us for many more years.

Because the 'social thing' is on her garden and all she's needed to do is get in a car.
Whereas the opening of parliament involves a journey, countless manoeuvres between vehicle, steps etc AND being in public view fir some time. Awkward if you stumble or need the loo.
She's 96. How many 96 year olds do you know working away.

I would have thought this is all obvious to anybody with common sense but I guess not

What age is that newly widowed woman?

I think your post is very off.

Not to go all MN on you, but seriously, give your head a wobble.

Northernlurker · 13/05/2022 12:23

And she is doing public duties, her duties are a lot more complex than you seem to understand.

I don't imagine many 95 year olds would much give a monkey's about being 'sacked'. 😂

However, I think there might be a slight difference in sitting in the front of a car which is parked in front of what she wants to watch vs. performing ceremonial duties in an up/down building with the cameras of the world watching to see if you fall over and break a hip.

You've heard of "delegation" right?

  1. She was probably still ill. She missed the first day of the show too. Both are very unusual for her to miss.
  1. She can leave the fun stuff at any time if she feels tired or ill without too much attention. Leaving parliament halfway through the speeches is not quite the done thing.
  1. Most people have retired by 80 years of age and nobody begrudges them social fun stuff whilst not working 🙄

I do wish she would reconsider a powered chair or scooter. A lot of elderly people think using them to be shameful but they are a game changer for those who want to get around. It would send a great message to her many elderly fans that needing such support is nothing to be ashamed of. Her behaviour in trying to hide it sends a really negative message.

Hang in there Lizzie as long as you can!! Hopefully Charlie will peg it first.

The constitution allows for Counsellors of State to deputise for her, so she sent Charles and William to do just that on Tuesday. The speech got delivered. The job got done.

Your constant need to get digs in at members of the royal family is getting a bit pathetic. They certainly are not above criticism, and the queen can be criticised of many things, but shirking her duty is not one of them.

Hoping somebody dies soon, how delightful.

The Queen still does all her red boxes daily, and does her weekly meetings with the pm. She most certainly can still do her job, she just had to delegate the parts that will be too much for her.

I'm happy to give a 95 year old woman a break. Poor woman is 30 years past retirement age.

user1492757084 · 13/05/2022 12:43

The Queen has earnt every right to live her remaining years coping as she sees fit. I trust her judgement. Great to see her passion in horses is still there and still giving her a zest for living.

You aren't 96, and you are not the monarch. Whether you would or would not be sacked is completely irrelevant.

DesignerRecliner · 13/05/2022 12:46

For anyone who's followed the queen's life and understands how she sees her post, she will never 'retire'. She will delegate activities that are physically beyond her, but she'll never retire as that would be abdication, which is the thing she believes ruined her father's life.

Also, waiting for those who say 'we pay for them so we have a say', please read up on how the crown is financed.

Have you heard of delegation?
Delegation and deputising happens in most jobs, especially for those at the top end of a business. I suspect this is very similar. The Queen can't really retire - retirement isn't part of the role. She'd have to abdicate which isn't going to happen and abdication isn't as straight forward as her stopping and Charles taking her place - there's more legalities to it.

Instead this is the work around - she doesn't what she cans and senior members of the RF stand in for her. This happens in lots of family businesses too, if you want a 'work place' equivalence.

There's also a huge difference between sitting in her own car in her own grounds looking at some animals, than travelling to another location, standing in front of others and delivering a speech which takes much longer and far more effort.

Keeping yourself informed about developments relevant to your duty is work. You're being really petty and silly now. Nice little inaccurate dig about Kate and William also thrown in for good measure.
