I've read so much about how she is frail/dying/already dead etc. and I'm so pleased to see her looking happy and animated at the Royal Windsor Horse Show even if she is still not walking around. I hope she will be with us for many more years.

I know that she continues to live in opulence, whilst people will be having to choose whether to eat or heat come next Winter. People going hungry now, but not too worry about that.

Who does she think she is the bloody.....oh wait, nevermind.

🤣🤣🤣

LowlandLucky · 13/05/2022 18:06

lameasahorse she may have sciatica, which comes and goes. so glad you have sympathy for a lady in her 90s

She is still doing some of her public duties, @lameasahorse - but is delegating others, which is sensible because of her age and mobility issues. And it is giving Charles time to transition into the role, rather than having it thrust on him all at once (whether because then Queen has died or because she has abdicated/retired).

Charles might not think it’s the best thing, of course - he has waited a long time for the top job, and is already past retirement age himself. And it might have been better for her and Prince Philip, if she had been less dedicated to doing her duty for the whole of her life, and had abdicated a few years ago, so they could have enjoyed retirement together.

dustandroses · 13/05/2022 18:09

@emuloc Yes. The country celebrating the jubilee with such grandeur and opulence while a third of the children in the country she has long reigned over live in poverty. So many people excuse this.

This. I find it baffling.

Yeah, this is a fair point.

Hang in there Lizzie as long as you can!! Hopefully Charlie will peg it first.

I couldn't give a shiny shit about any of the royal family, they're all out of touch parasites but this is a really awful thing to say Confused

PoseyFlump · 13/05/2022 19:31

@crosbystillsandmash really awful? I think it's really awful that Charlie bought a house for that religious bloke to live in after he was found out to be a wrong 'un and Charlie knew about it. Pretty sick in my book.

Of course there's a nasty tone to some of these posts. They're a very nasty family. All this endless lauding of fraudsters and paedo-lovers is baffling. The serfs really do love bling and ceremony that much, they'll forgive anything.

👏🏻👏🏻

PoseyFlump · 13/05/2022 19:45

Some naive posters on here if you think it's only Andy who is the problem in that family. Just put cheese in your ears and ignore the truth.

emuloc · 13/05/2022 19:47

Yes, it does not seem to take much for some people to be satisfied. A smile here, a wave there. A walkabout there, the odd pic release here...oh well.

megletthesecond · 13/05/2022 20:00

For all we know she may have bowel issues. Staying in her range rover is a lot safer than sitting for some time in full view of people.

Aposterhasnoname · 13/05/2022 12:38

The Queen still does all her red boxes daily, and does her weekly meetings with the pm. She most certainly can still do her job, she just had to delegate the parts that will be too much for her.

How in the name of all that is holy, do you know that?

EdithWeston · 13/05/2022 21:00

If you mean the Red Boxes etc, they recently released pix of her doing them. And she still has diplomatic meetings, though now usually on zoom, though there are occasional pix of in-person ones

MrsLargeEmbodied · 13/05/2022 21:03

i think perhaps she didnt agree with what they wanted her to read Wink

at the queens speech
anyway, i think the majority of us are so pleased to see her looking so happy at the horse show today

Roussette · 13/05/2022 21:05

Yep. But I would not expect a 96 yo to be 'doing the job'.

Pictures of her with red boxes mean nothing. This is not a criticism, she's a 96 yo!

I hope she's doing bugger all

These days that isn't a given though as life expectancy isn't always short for those who are less well off. 3 of my grandparents loved to their 90s, as did dh's grandad. All were brought up in lower income families, council house homes throughout their lives and all working hard in manual jobs during their working lives.

Whilst not everyone will live to be 96h it's not a given those who don't have luxury lifestyles will have shortened lifespans.

dollymuchymuchness · 13/05/2022 23:01

At 96 she can do whatever she wants, as far as I’m concerned. She’s dedicated her life to this country, leave her be.

Speaking as an atheist republican, I’m wondering who gets to sack the queen! God?

I think the whole point of the job of monarch is that it is for life too

They could always battle it out Game of Thrones style!

I'm a staunch republican and even I disagree with you.

It's obvious that an engagement which would involve a longish journey, giving a speech etc would be hard for a 96 year old woman who is struggling with her health. She was also suffering from exhaustion after having covid, give her a break!
