I've read so much about how she is frail/dying/already dead etc. and I'm so pleased to see her looking happy and animated at the Royal Windsor Horse Show even if she is still not walking around. I hope she will be with us for many more years.

I can’t believe the harsh criticism on here for a woman of 96 who lost her husband a year ago. A woman who has given her life to the role she had thrust upon her. Of course someone in her position does not want to appear in public in a wheelchair . There’s nothing wrong with using one, but she has a very prominent position . She’s Queen. Of course she feels pride in her position on her Platinum Jubilee
and doesn’t want to appear to be losing her faculties, physical or mental.

This. Its always the same treatment for anyone on benefits- a certain proportion of the population have no respect for anyone receiving 'hand outs'.

She has a large family to look after, you try raising that many kids and grand kids on less than half a billion a year.

Weird. There's no shame in appearing in a wheelchair.

If her mobility gets worse as undoubtedly it will, we'll be seeing very little of her then.

@Roussette

i know plenty of older people who were uncomfortable using mobility aids in public. It never crossed my mind to call them ‘weird’ I just respected their personal decision.

Worldgonecrazy · 20/05/2022 13:36

It would send a lovely message if she had felt able to be seen using a mobility aid. So many elderly feel it is something shameful and miss out on so many things because of this societal shame. Those that do use them often forget that shame when they realise how much they can do with a mobility aid.

As you will see, I did not call the Queen 'weird' or say anyone else was weird.

I said it was a weird situation not to use a wheelchair if you need one especially in the Queen's position when the public are gasping to see her as much as possible.

She clearly feels unhappy about the idea of appearing in a wheelchair, and she is entitled to her feelings. It isn’t logical - no-one would judge her and, as @Worldgonecrazy says, it would send a very positive message, but at 97, she is entitled to have illogical feelings, and to step back from engagements which would be too much for her.

Critics on this thread will be pleased to see that HM is using a mobility buggy to travel around the Chelsea Fliwer Show.

WinnieTheW0rm · 23/05/2022 19:21

Someone needs to pimp that buggy. Disappointingly plain and no Royal Standard

megletthesecond · 23/05/2022 22:06

It's not exactly regular mobility buggy is it. More of a posh golf buggy. Nice to see her out in it though. Chelsea is such a good day out.
