Prince Harry not attending Philips memorial

It has been confirmed that Prince Harry will not be attending P Philips memorial service. What are people’s thoughts about this? Is the whole security issue a smoke screen for the fact he can’t face his family?

I agree. No one's perfect. However, I do think she had criticism and insidious comments based on racism which added an extra layer.

I think being American, divorced and an actress added something into the mix too. How many times on here did I see her acting career ridiculed... she's been called a suitcase game show bit part actress, a D list wooden actress, she just didn't fit into what some people wanted.

tigger2022 · 13/04/2022 13:55

I don't think she would have got much different treatment. I think the idea that the entire British press was racist is just really silly, there were a few questionable comments but fortunately they were few and far between. The coverage of Meghan and Harry was overwhelmingly positive, and it turned against them because of their own behaviour. Harry especially behaved incredibly rudely towards female reporters in particular - e.g. that Sky News presenter that he was so condescending towards, when she just asked him a polite question because she was there to cover his work! Kate was treated appallingly by the press at first (especially the classist comments made about her family), much more so than Meghan in the beginning, and I thought it was really uncharitable of Meghan to dismiss Kate's treatment out of hand. Maybe she didn't understand how much class holds people back in this country, but she could have made an effort to learn instead of judge. I don't think Meghan was ever really "in", it sounds like she was never seriously going to spend the rest of her life opening up leisure centres in random British towns in the rain, but it also doesn't sound like Harry ever explained the job to her very well.

notanotheroneagain · 13/04/2022 14:53

It's already been demonstrated that she was treated very differently to Meghan, and it would have continued as such, just like with Sophie.

The tabloids are racist af, there is no denying that.

The only time they were positive about MM was the run up to the wedding, because the while world had it's eye on the UK then, and there was no denying her credentials when they had to introduce her.

Harry was not rude to the journalist, it was the other way round. She knew very well, they are not supposed to shout at royals during visits.

Kate had a few jokes on class, Meghan had to deal with both class and racism. Which is insidious, because you cannot change your race.

I don't know how you can say Meghan was never really in, when she attended all her royal duties, and did some research and helped with the aforementioned capsules, cookbook etc. I don't know why you think she would not open a leisure centre or whatever, if anything she would probably find ideas for that centre to financially thrive and do more for it's community based on her past endeavours. She had seemed to have understood the brief very well.

And no the brief is not that you must endure racism, lies and over the top unjustified criticism. Nor should it be.

Posters were asking about Travalyst on here.

Since your tabloids won't tell you.

Wow, wonderful to see Invicticus gaining so much traction.

Just saw pics of The Hague and so many posters/billboards regarding the games. French First Lady seeing off the team and everything is a reminder how big these games are - so stark after the Covid cancellations.

When other countries treat you better than your own.

‘Your tabloids!’ 🤣

I’ve just seen that the Dutch government has given them the status “very very important people”… I know it’s because Invictus is high-risk (the Dutch King and all the veterans that will be there) but it feels like they’re taking the p* 😂

A very well-balanced post 👌

If so, I very much doubt they will get the irony!
Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/04/2022 09:38

If the Dutch security services have assessed some sort of threat to the Sussexes then nothing could be fairer than to provide security, but isn't that what would be done in the UK anyway? And if they're staying at the palace I'd assume they'd come under the RFs security in any case?

It all seems a bit unclear because reports seem to be coming from "sources", but if the Dutch security people follow the same path as ours they quite rightly don't usually say much

tigger2022 · 14/04/2022 10:36

Yeah, well I think Invictus is genuinely high risk (lots of Afghanistan veterans, the Dutch monarch in attendance)… I just find the VVIP thing quite funny 😂 like giving him a World’s Specialest Boy badge or something

Roussette · 14/04/2022 10:40

I doubt they said this as a joke, i imagine they're more professional than that

notanotheroneagain · 14/04/2022 10:53

Presiding over an international event endorsed by royalty, vests, heads of states and their partners will probably make you VVP.

It must sting for their critics, but that's just the way it is, deal with it. 🤷‍♀️

I am wondering what Harry would have done if Invictus was being held in the UK this time 🤔

I imagine he wouldn't have gone (although Invictus would almost certainly have been designated high risk here too, even though the sovereign wouldn't have attended). That said, I think he's going to lose his case against the HO, so I expect Invictus won't be held here again. He's very stubborn...
Roussette · 14/04/2022 11:20

Is he?
I didn't know that but then I don't know him 🤣

tigger2022 · 14/04/2022 11:24

Why are you so obsessed then, if you don’t know anything about him? 😂

Roussette · 14/04/2022 11:31

Obsessed?
Nah
Just said I don't know him

And you think you 'know' him ? 😂😂
tigger2022 · 14/04/2022 11:47

I am aware of one of his literally most famous traits, you mean 😆

pot , kettle
Roussette · 14/04/2022 12:24

Why is it his one of his most famous traits? Who is saying that, apart from you and perhaps DM or Mirror journos?
I've never heard that but then, I don't read their clickbait!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/04/2022 12:54

Well, if he's assessed to need security because of the event's profile he'd have got it in the UK too, so I'm not sure why that would be an issue
What isn't clear is whether Dutch services will be protecting him if he does other things while there, but as ever we're back with the security services saying little

I was surprised though to see it reported that H&M will be in an hotel rather than staying at the palace, firstly because that would have been even more secure and secondly because I just thought it would be offered

notanotheroneagain · 14/04/2022 12:58

Did they stay at a palace/White House etc. before?

Don't think so. Invictus has never been a royal engagement.

Dutch RF in difficult position diplomatically speaking! If they offer accommodation they risk upsetting Her Maj I suppose. And H & M are all about being "private people" not royals anymore ...plus a good hotel may be a lot more comfortable than a draughty palace Grin
