Prince Harry not attending Philips memorial

It has been confirmed that Prince Harry will not be attending P Philips memorial service. What are people’s thoughts about this? Is the whole security issue a smoke screen for the fact he can’t face his family?

I will never understand the people who give so much of a shit about what the royals do or don’t do. Let alone everyone acting like a bunch of disappointed Nanas towards Harry.
You don't need to understand - and you clearly don't feel that you need to be polite. Your choice. Others are also entitled to have their opinions, which are as valid as your own.

Last time he was in the UK his car was chased by paparazzi. His mum died due to her car being chased by paparazzi. Security sounds like a valid concern to me.
Yep! People seem quick to dismiss his concerns but they would feel very real if the press had killed your mum.

To be honest I’m not sure why his non attendance warranted a statement. He could have privately sent his apologies to HM. I can’t imagine anyone is surprised that he is not coming .
Is anyone actually expecting him to attend the Platinum events ?

He is still getting dragged for saying war is alien to Europe. When we had lost of wars since 1980.
He would know about Yugoslavia, Croatia. He was already a teen when Diana was in Bosnia and Kosovo. Maybe he can ask uncle Andy what he was doing in Falkland War considering it had nothing to do with us, what with war being alien and all?

The funny thing is how the invisible contract was demonstrated, because I don't remember any reporter correcting all the lies they printed about H&M.

Well given the Queen is no longer going, I think he probably is trying to avoid further fanfare from his presence alone.

I do hate how it’s become Harry is the bad one while William is a saint, when actually it appears that they are both flawed adults who don’t always make perfect choices. The vilification of Harry in the media is ridiculous IMO

Prince William is a racist is trending because, his RR, Richard Palmer said William said, unlike Africa and Asia, war is an alien concept in Europe.

This started a barrage of criticism on William, with posters saying he is ignorant and some attributing the race issue with Archie being William who has said it.
After around 15hrs of this, Richard came back saying he misheard (don't know how), and ITV showing a video of William not saying this (not a complete video of the event, mind you).

But he is still trending for the 'alien' remark anyway.

It's not really a surprise that he's not coming back, he can't complain about the security arrangements and then turn up anyway - it completely defeats his case.

However, his earning power is almost entirely dependent on being seen as royal, so if he continues to skip the big events that's going to affect his income in the future. He's talked himself into a bit of a corner at the moment, particularly if the legal case about security doesn't go his way.

This. Starting the legal case about security has backed him into a corner as now he can't come to the UK. I suppose that also works as a convenient reason why not. The interesting test will be, as @Viviennemary says, what happens for the jubilee. It's not actually too far away now. I don't know when the decision about the judicial review is expected.

But he did say it. If war is alien to Europe where then is it normal or not alien? And the man is so stupid to say war is alien to Europe when even in his life time there has been wars in Europe.

Many Brits can go blue in the face defending William but the rest of the world see him for what he is. You are kidding yourself if you think Asian, African and Middle Eastern countries think highly of Prince William. Europe likewise care not for the British Royal Family. The only ones who used to give value to the Royal Family beside Britain was the Commonwealth and the treatment of Meghan sent a clear message that they too are hated because of the colour of their skin.

The world has changed. No self-respecting nation will be continuing to put of with this nonsense.

Didn’t he say for “ our generation “ rather than war in Europe in general is alien which is obviously isn’t. I think for his generation it is alien, he’s in his 30’s and wouldn’t remember the falklands for example. It’s not so alien for my generation my 50’s however but I think it is fair to say anyone under 35 living in the U.K. or most of Europe it is. Anyway sounds like comments taken out of context and twisted for worse possible interpretation although the original reporter has apologised.

Meghan and Harry are friends with Serena Williams. Remember what she and Venus did when they were racially abused at Indian Wells? Decided never to return despite pleas and fines. After many years Serena relented but they showed that they would not offer up themselves for abuse and they have boundaries.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Meghan takes a leaf out of that book. I hope she never returns nor bring her kids here. Harry can visit his family as he chooses. I would not be surprised that I nice he visits the Queen and attends her funeral when the time comes, Britain will not see him for many, many years.

The meaning behind Prince William comments are clear. Gaslighting does not work anymore. People of colour and people from Asian, Africa, Middle East know what he meant. That’s all that matters. Gaslighting them won’t work.
