How do you think this will go down? And will the British public ever accept Camilla as Queen Consort?

I wasnt a fan of Camilla back in the day however I think she has earned her stripes. She has worked hard and acted with dignity over the years and she should be Queen when the time comes.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 07/02/2022 18:40

I’m a republican so I don’t think anyone should be Queen Consort. However, having said that, the thought that comes to my mind most often when I see all this royal debate is - I feel very sorry for people who have been born into this family. They didn’t choose it. They’re stuck with it. Yes you can bang on about how rich they are etc and that’s a fair argument in terms of compensation if you’re a candidate on reality TV or something. They choose this shit. Charles didn’t. Camz could have walked away but she’s sticking to him. Well tbh fair play to her.

Sometimes I imagine how the tabloid press would report my own family and their behaviour. 😂 I’m fucking glad that we don’t have to live with that level of public scrutiny tbh. Being head of state is a big responsibility and it’s right that it’s scrutinised closely. But everyone is entitled to a personal life.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 07/02/2022 18:45

And really, if Diana was still alive nobody would give a shit that ‘it should have been hers’. She’d have married a hedge fund guy, be living in a Caribbean villa much of the year, and doing her charitable stuff. She wouldn’t want or care about the titles of her ex-in-laws.

WatchMyChops · 07/02/2022 19:05

As always I get my information from Mumsnet. I don’t understand why anyone would be miffed with Camilla being the Queen Consort. She’s been married to Charles for goodness knows how long. Of course if and when Charles becomes king, this would automatically make her the Queen consort, what else would she be? As long as we have a monarchy, that’s how it is supposed to be.

Kitkat151 · 07/02/2022 21:47

@feellikeanalien

What actual difference will it make to anyone's life what she is called?
None
Monopolyiscrap · 08/02/2022 00:39

The Royal Family take our money and ask for us to care about what they do as a result. But the truth is we are only supposed to care about things like pretty dresses, piano playing or telling a joke. Anything negative about the RF we are supposed to ignore.
If what happens with the RF makes no difference to our lives, why are we paying for them?

WatchMyChops · 08/02/2022 02:03

@Monopolyiscrap So what would you suggest?

TheMarzipanDildo · 08/02/2022 02:31

I just assumed she was going to be Queen consort so I don’t have an opinion!

Also if we can scrap members of the monarchy on the grounds of them being racist, that’s probably most of them gone. Maybe be we should try it.

Monopolyiscrap · 08/02/2022 09:35

@WatchMyChops Abolish them. Have a government-appointed panel that screens candidates for President, then let the public vote. If the Queen had stood, she would get elected. Charles would be unlikely to get elected. Maybe we could get someone like Joanne Lumley instead? She would be very good at it.

Monopolyiscrap · 08/02/2022 09:36

It would also stop the nonsense of children being raised in a certain way for a pre-ordained role. Children should be brought up to live their own life in the way they choose.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 08/02/2022 09:56

@diddl

"They always intended Camilla to be called Queen."

I don't know why anyone would ever have thought otherwise.

People must be pretty daft if they thought that there was no chance of it ever happening.

Ah the Boris way

"You're angry because you actually believed my words. In actual fact you misunderstood them and they meant the complete opposite. It's OK, you're only an uneducated pleb that has to work for a living after all. Thank God I'm in charge. Pat pat"

Monopolyiscrap · 08/02/2022 10:05

Yep, lots of people believed the Royal Family and the Queen. And now they are mocked for believing what they were told.
My advice - don't believe anything that the Royal Family says about what they will do in the future.

That's an argument for abolishing the monarchy, and fair enough. It isn't an argument for Camilla not being Queen Consort.

Joanna Lumley who enthusiastically supported the ridiculous Garden Bridge? I don't think so, really.

Monopolyiscrap · 08/02/2022 10:46

@DePfeffoff okay not Joanna Lumley then. There are others who would be great.
I was answering the question though of why should we care if Camilla is called Queen or Princess? Because the truth is if people don't care about this stuff, then they probably don't care about the monarchy at all. You can't ask people to care and become emotionally invested so they support the monarchy, and then tell them they are ridiculous for caring if they do something someone disagrees with.
And if nobody cares about them, why have them at all?

WatchMyChops · 08/02/2022 18:45

@Monopolyiscrap I’m confused. I didn’t ask you why should we care if Camilla is called princess/queen. I was just asking you about what you would suggest. I’m just a pragmatist so I was curious that’s all.

notanotheroneagain · 08/02/2022 22:31

I would suggest that Charles and Camilla do not take on the role of Head of Church of England for the shoddy morals of them being home wreckers.

Funny how no-one is shouting HYPOCRITES or LIAR when it's the palace who lied, this seems to be reserved for certain other royals.

IcedPurple · 08/02/2022 22:44

Being Supreme Governor of the Church of England is literally the job of the monarch. It's not like Charles has a choice. Nothing to do with Camilla however. She will simply be a consort.

And do you seriously believe that previous monarchs have not had 'shoddy morals' or that none of them have committed adultery in the past? You'd be hard pressed to find one that hasn't.

Supersimkin2 · 08/02/2022 22:54

Nowt we can do. A shame. But we have been lucky to have the current Queen for so long.

notanotheroneagain · 08/02/2022 22:55

That is the hypocrisy of the whole sham.

He has a choice to walk away.

Elizabeth's uncle did not become King when he married his side piece (who was the one married).

Monopolyiscrap · 09/02/2022 00:08

@WatchMyChops I think the Queen should not have lied to us. They should stick with what they said Camilla would be called. If they had said then she would be called Queen I would have been fine with it. It is the lying I cant stand.

SenecaFallsRedux · 09/02/2022 13:50

When did the Queen lie? I don't think the Queen ever made a statement about Camilla's style and title until the one she made on Saturday.

Monopolyiscrap · 09/02/2022 13:55

The palace made a statement. That will have been approved by the queen, about how princess would be used rather than queen.

SenecaFallsRedux · 09/02/2022 13:57

So even if she had approved it, she changed her mind. That does not make it a lie.

ajandjjmum · 09/02/2022 14:00

Didn't the statement say 'the intention' is that she would be Princess Consort, which generally reflected public opinion of Camilla at the time. As public opinion of her has development, 'the intention' has changed. Nothing wrong with that - life evolves.

If you wanted to be a fireman when you were young, but grew to become an accountant, would that mean you had lied?
