If you were as fearful for your family's safety as Harry is....

...why would you want to have them participate in a really high-profile public bash?

Particularly one to celebrate an institution you have walked away from.

Genuinely puzzled.

It's his family. If he didn't come everyone would say it was a huge snub.

LublinToDublin · 16/01/2022 11:54

Eh?
He just wants to be able to return safely with his family to the country he was born in.

I have no understanding of the legal or security issues involved but his desire to protect his family in the uk is not unreasonable.

Samcro · 16/01/2022 11:55

there is a thread already about this non story.

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/01/2022 11:56

If the institution can finance the Queen’s second son, no doubt it can afford private security for a few days.

Reallycantbesarsed · 16/01/2022 11:57

I agree with Harry. He should be protected in the uk .

LublinToDublin · 16/01/2022 12:02

Do people not realise its a complex issue about access to the intelligence services?
It's not Harry asking the UK tax payer to pay for anything

PostingForTheFirstTime · 16/01/2022 12:03

I was not wanting to address the question of whether or not he gets security provided. As Samcro points out, there is already a thread that has done that question full justice.

The questions are - WHY would you walk your family into a situation in which they are put at risk, when it is not necessary? And WHY would you draw press and pap attention to them, when you believe the press and paps are a credible threat to their safety?

@MissAmbrosia - he can come and visit his family any time quietly and privately. But he is choosing to do so at the height of hoopla when he is bound to attract loads of attention.

Of course he can’t come over in secret. Things just don’t work like that. And why should be have to?

StrangerThanSpring · 16/01/2022 12:06

The last time they did a public outing, it was reported that they had mikes on and cameras were following them. I suspect they need material for their Netflix documentary. They can't exactly just have footage of them bumming around the house feeding chickens.

Yes very good question op!

Fair enough if he attends a public family event where other members of the RF are present (this could potentially be the Queen's funeral for example) but otherwise he could swing privately in to a private airport and on to Windsor or Sandringhsm and no one would be any the wiser.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 16/01/2022 12:09

I don’t understand the need some have to constantly stick the boot into this man.

Quietly and privately? Are you joking @PostingForTheFirstTime? His issue isn't related to a specific event.

ANameChangeAgain · 16/01/2022 12:14

Our police service are not there for his private use. This is what private security is for. He doesn't work for this country by choice, so he need to dig into his own enormous pockets to fund security for his family. He is a celebrity now, not a working royal.

Do you apply that to former prime ministers too?
lunar1 · 16/01/2022 12:18

I think it's fair enough for him to be protected while he's in the uk, with Harry and Megan contributing to the cost.

It would have to be conditional that their Netflix and whatever other contracts they have are not involved in any way. Our police force don't need to be involved in their reality tv chaos.

PostingForTheFirstTime · 16/01/2022 13:01

@Sirzy
Not "in secret". Quietly and privately. As in, drawing as little press and pap attention as they can.

For the record, I agree with this almost 100%. (I don't think he and Meghan should have to bear any financial cost, if they are guests of our head of state at a state event.)

@lublintodublin is there a comparison?

Giggorata · 16/01/2022 13:09

Have they got chickens? (Misses point of thread)

AlexaShutUp · 16/01/2022 13:10

I think they need to be protected when they visit and understand the point that their own private security would not have access to relevant intelligence. (Though I can't help but wonder if this doesn't apply equally in the US? Confused) If they want to pay the met police to provide the security during their visit, I think that's fair enough tbh.

They have chosen to live outside the UK and away from the Royal family but that doesn't mean that they should effectively be exiled forever.

Yes!! I was reading an article about how loads of the rich folk living in Montecito have chickens.

We can only assume that the FBI etc. would give them information if there are threats against them. But, so far as we know, the real threats have been in the UK.

Love or loathe the Sussexes, they've again picked a great time to make this public & give the Queen another PR headache she doesn't need. 👏
