It's an old story, the legal filing was made in September. The RF comms team pushed it out this weekend so the big articles about Andrew and his patronage and the public letter begging that he be removed were not front and centre. Harry and Meghan have done nothing except correct a false story in the Mail. And the only reason they had to release a statement is because the RF leaked this story to cover for Andrew.

Hate the sussexes. I am unbothered. But equally recognise that your hatred is being used to protect a sex offender deliberately

@StormzyinaTCup

That’s a bit of a curve ball! The Queen can’t seem to catch a break at the moment Sad
God love her.

I'm no royalist but I've grown up in a country where she was our head of state and the most recognisable figure in my life, my parents' lives and indeed my grandparents' lives.

She's been a constant for decades and at 95 years of age, we know we are going to lose her soon. Whatever you may think of royalty, it is my opinion that if Elizabeth II were a stick of rock she would have 'DUTY' written down the middle.

Poor me Harry, Meghan, Andrew ... I don't care. This family were born into privilege, but also scrutiny (which comes with the lifestyle as it does for politicians or film stars or prominent people). Those who have my respect are those who shut their mouths, get their heads down, acknowledge their position and get on with it - and here Princess Anne comes to mind.

If you are a Republican you are likely rubbing your hands in glee at the turmoil and criticism they are facing. If you are a Royalist, then you are likely grateful for the fact that William and Kate are our future monarchs.

dontsaythj · 16/01/2022 01:04
@dontsaythj but the judicial review is an old story. The request happened months ago. So why do you think it is only now on the front of all the Sunday newspapers?
@AllThePogs

Now who's spreading propaganda? I've just watched a preview of the Sunday papers, and no it isn't "on the front of all". There's more prominent coverage of Andrew. Some ignore the Sussex story entirely.

You do realise that we have a free press in this country, right? Or do you think that the Queen phones the editors to dictate the headlines?

StormzyinaTCup · 16/01/2022 01:04

There are some rather bizarre posts on here.
I'm wandering off now.

AllThePogs · 16/01/2022 01:05

@dontsaythj good I am glad. I saw earlier suggestions that it was going to be on the front pages. I am really glad if it is not.
No we don't have a free press, don't be naive.

nottodaybatman · 16/01/2022 01:08

The PR at the palaces must be throwing the kitchen sink at the tabloids to distract from Andrew. This story is from September and there is no comment from the home office so there is nothing much to say really.
I wonder what other nonsense they will throw to the wolves to keep Andrew off the front pages. With the sussexes gone, it is difficult to generate the outrage. Also given that harry corrected the nonsense in the Mail immediately the RF will need to feed them another story and soon.

Tough gig doing comms at the RF.

dontsaythj · 16/01/2022 01:08

@AllThePogs

So you don't believe that a free press (which we do have in this country) can be trusted, but you post a Sussex press release and advocate that it be taken at face value and believed entirely.

Bless you.

dontsaythj · 16/01/2022 01:09

@AllThePogs

So you were wrong. "But I saw earlier suggestions and believed them". You're not too good at this "critical thinking" thing, are you?

WhatScratch · 16/01/2022 01:12

I got sucked in by the Daily Mail’s first run at the story Blush

If he wants to pay for police protection when he’s in the U.K. then it’s an issue for the royal family and the government to sort out between them. Beatrice and Eugénie had their 24 hr protection removed but I doubt that they offered to self fund it.

Harry served in the army in Afghanistan which will make him a target for some extremists. If he’s considered to be at risk from attack because of that it would seem foolish to refuse him the right to self fund armed protection officers.

As for Andrew, that’s down to the Queen. Not him being a slimy, arrogant, corrupt arsehole - that’s all him. The fact that he’s been allowed to continue being a slimy, arrogant arsehole while being a ‘working’ royal. Check out this article from 2011.

AllThePogs

amusedtodeath1 You are being played to distract from Andrew.

I can comfortably deal with more than one story at a time about the Royal Family, thanks.

🤔

HeddaGarbled · 16/01/2022 01:14

No one is going to be distracted from the Prince Andrew stuff by this story. Professional PR people aren’t idiots. Suggesting this is some dastardly plot by the Royal Family is just silly.

AllThePogs · 16/01/2022 01:14

@dontsaythj I can always tell people who do not discuss things in good faith. I said I was wrong. But you follow that up with insulting me. That indicates you are not interested in the truth. Only in pushing a certain narrative.

Happy2BeHere · 16/01/2022 01:15

@user528849290

Of course the racism denier is an Andrew apologist lol
Agreed. I see it too! Not just on here
dontsaythj · 16/01/2022 01:15

@AllThePogs

The UK ranks 35 out of 180 countries on the World Press Freedom Index. We slipped recently largely due to threats to journalists in Northern Ireland.

Let me guess, you're one of those, "A Conservative party is in government therefore this place is a dictatorship!"/ "I didn't get the result I wanted at the election, this is like Nazi Germany!" children?

I'd tell you to grow the hell up, but I guess you get that all the time?

AllThePogs · 16/01/2022 01:16

@HeddaGarbled Prince Harry is now trending on Twitter instead of Prince Andrew. No people won't literally forget, but they can be distracted. And PR firms know this. This article alone wont do this, it will be part of a wider PR strategy to distract the public from Andrew.

AllThePogs · 16/01/2022 01:16

@dontsaythj more personal insults and lies about me. I see you. I know exactly what you are doing.

nottodaybatman · 16/01/2022 01:19

I said this last year but the real question to me is what does Andrew know / other shit has he done that the RF is willing to work so hard to protect him. Paying his legal fees is one thing but the only reason his dressing up box and patronages were finally taken was because of the open letter and ruling from judge kaplan.

Flinging random Harry and Meghan stories out there. It is just so odd and desperate. Why not cut him off and shun him like they did to the Sussexes? That BBC interview was November 2019 .... over 700 days to yank the patronages and hrh. It took less than 90 days for Harry.

Why is Andrew being treated so gently? Shunning a sex offender is easy good PR?

nottodaybatman · 16/01/2022 01:22

This PR strategy is not just about printed papers, it is also about trends on twitter.

I didn't say it was especially clever but it is what it is. An old story that was released to split or remove the attention from Andrew.
Taxpayer funded too!

AllThePogs · 16/01/2022 01:24

@nottodaybatman Either because Andrew is the Queen's favourite. Or maybe they don't think what Andrew did is wrong? Charles after all has been friends with some high profile sex offenders.

dontsaythj · 16/01/2022 01:24
@dontsaythj more personal insults and lies about me. I see you. I know exactly what you are doing.
@AllThePogs

Yes you see me - I'm a person who uses mumsnet and doesn't tolerate idiocy gladly. You've been posting Sussex press releases, while accusing the rest of us of falling for PR.

You post a celebrity press release as some sort of smoking gun and the gold standard of evidence of some sort of nefarious plot between the RF and press.

No one's going to be taking any lessons fro you, kid.

nottodaybatman · 16/01/2022 01:27

@AllThePogs I think we are beyond favourites.

Well this story didn't stick because Harry put out a statement correcting it.

Let's see what they come out with next week.

I hope Virginia gets her day in court and drags him and his grubby enablers. This whole debacle is sordid.

GatoradeMeBitch · 16/01/2022 01:29

Ironic that the Fail thinks this is out of order, given that they'll be all over him the second he arrives back in the country, and whipping up hate from their demented readership. If they were put out of business he and his family would immediately have less need of protection.

StormzyinaTCup · 16/01/2022 01:29

Off topic but why do some people feel they need to name change so often?

AllThePogs · 16/01/2022 01:30

It is on the front of some Sunday newspapers.
As said the story about Harry is an old one. This has been released as part of a wider PR strategy to stop the public from talking so much about Andrew.
Andrew facing court for raping a sex-trafficked teenager is very bad PR for the Royal Family. As is over 150 war veterans writing to the Queen asking her to remove Andrew's military titles, and finally those titles being removed.
