I don't believe anything from the DM.

If the royal family have a case to answer then it will be discovered or not reach court (more likely). He is within his rights to try if he feels legally wronged.

He isn’t a working royal, he doesn’t live in the U.K. and he’s now a private individual, earning his own living. U.K. taxpayers shouldn’t be funding his security team.

It's not because they won't pay for him, it's because they won't let Harry use the UK police/ intelligence, even when paying with his own money.

No it's not, its because he's been refused police protection even though he's happy to pay because his US based team don't have the correct jurisdiction over here to access Intel etc. I suspect its because personnel have been cut to the bone here and they can't afford to spare anyone from their regular duties and/or there's complexities around logistics of it, but doesn't seem wildly unreasonable.

He's not suing the government, and his issue is that he wants to pay for his own security when in the UK. Not quite the same thing really.

Haven't read the story, but Harry and his children need security because of the constitutional position they were born into, a situation they had no control over. Credible threats have been made against their lives because of it.

The UK should absolutely be funding their security and that of other high profile royals, ex PMs (even the awful ones and even Boris when the time finally comes) and anyone else who needs it because of their position or former position within the UK governing structure.

That's not what this is about. He want to fund for Uk protection himself privately, but this was blocked. It's this that he's challenging.

I'm not sure, but then again I mean whatever he's like now he was thrust into the spotlight and has lived in the media glare because of the Royal family of this country, they should work something out.

Does anyone know if this is new information? I wasn't aware and I've been following this quite closely.

My understanding is that he wants police protection rather than private protection . I’m not sure how him offering to pay for it would work . Why not just pay for private security if he feels the need ?

@ KatherineParr news to me too ! During the OW interview H said that he had to sign up with Netflix etc because he had to afford security so not sure how his supposed offer to pay ties up .

I am not a Harry fan by any means. But if this one is a bit of a conundrum.

He was born into this situation so I think he should have security. But then equally his need for security would likely have been less if he had stayed in the Royal Family because he wouldnt be shouting his move off every five seconds and being a divisive figure.

Its a tricky one. Because I would say yes absolutely due to his birth risk, but then if they are going to continue to pursue this kind of half celeb/ half wannabe politician status then where does the obligation stop when the crown has no control over the level of risk they may be creating?

Do we rent out police protection? I've never heard of a private citizen paying for police protection before. Don't they usually just hire a private firm??

He can’t pay for police protection. Neither can any other famous people. That’s not how the police work. He can engage his own private security.
