can fuck right off. Why is it when overpopulation is talked about the implication is always that there's too many black or brown people? Not to mention the hypocrisy of him having 3 kids himself. It makes me sick.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there Cheese.

This is an interesting and I feel, accurate, article on William's speech.

I notice the word 'pontificate' has entered the lists. I'll google 'what does pope frank say about world population numbers'.

Love this

BringBackThinEyebrows · 27/11/2021 14:37

Absolutely @rubicscubicle, I was the one who brought up the fact Harry holds the same views and made a similar statement. Therefore you think both William and Harry said utter bollocks and you think their statements are eco-facist arguments based on racism.

Spot on

Yes the CNN article is spot on.
You want to protect wildlife? Stop consuming so much. Ask people in the west to boycott palm oil, get Brazil to ban the burning of the rainforest, ban dangerous pesticides worldwide. Don't start blaming the poorest people in the world for this.
Its not poor humans that is the issue. Most of the rainforest is destroyed for crops or cattle to feed the west.

madisonbridges · 27/11/2021 15:38

It's a very well meaning thread

😂😂😂

julieca · 27/11/2021 15:57

I do think William should stick to talking about what he knows about. That is clearly not the cause of the decimation of our wildlife.
And if he cared about this, he would get rid of the grouse moors on royal land. Absolutely terrible habitats for native wildlife which is under threat in the UK.

Pawprintpaper · 28/11/2021 08:41

Talk about elephant in the room…

Maybe it's not within his power to get rid if the moors as he doesn't open the land, but his grandmother does...? Confused

Maybe when he's King he'll do all of that...

julieca · 28/11/2021 14:09

@00100001 Okay the Queen has to make that decision. He still takes his sons out shooting on those grouse moors though.
We need proper environmental action in every country. That means protecting habitat and native wildlife. If he really wanted to help he could bang on a single issue like stop palm oil being grown, to protect wildlife. But he wont, because that affects big wealthy firms.
They only ever hit out at poor people who cant answer back.

BadgerB · 02/12/2021 18:12

@MrsFin

Speaking at the Tusk conservation awards in London on Tuesday evening, William said increasing pressure on the continent’s “wildlife and wild spaces as a result of human population” was presenting a “huge challenge for conservationists, as it does the world over”

Isn't that true though? -as he says, it's the same the world over.

I agree. He's right. But maybe he should not have used black populations as an example. Should know it would be triggering
julieca · 02/12/2021 19:51

No he is wrong. The issue isnt as simple as increasing population. Lots of people living simply lives isn't an issue. Growing populations in countries like the UK and the US are an issue as our consumer demands lead to rainforests and other habitats being destroyed.

Mookie81 · 07/12/2021 22:44

Funny how days after the backlash, he jumps on his brother's back by featuring in the papers talking about his mental anguish Xmas Hmm.
If I was a cynical person I would say its a deliberate ploy to get good press.
Disingenuous prick.

Just reading this thread and this comment made he chuckle the most 😆. Accusing PW of talking about things he does not understand. Having personally written a paper on managing moorland habitats, if there is no grouse hunting and controlled heather burning. How do you prevent deep burn of heather and catastrophic destruction of these habitats in wide spread accidental fires within out controlled management which grouse hunting provides? Who is going to pay for it? It's a classic catch 22 problem. So if they are no managed we get destruction of both peat (higher carbon capture than the rainforest), flooding and VOC affecting our drinking water ect ect. But then again your an expert aren't you! So before you throw about accusations to PW preaching may be you should do the same 🙄.
Barbarantia · 09/12/2021 06:03

There's something rather distasteful about someone whose popularity comes from his birth heritage, a birth heritage which had the first picks of goods from Africa before Africans as per social norms back in the day, someone whose riches have savoury and unsavoury contributions from Africans, telling Africans they are poor and over populated and it's all their own fault.

I get what he is trying to say but I look at him and all I can think is "you are one to talk".
It is jarring coming from him. Knowing full well his birthright, contributed to by Africans, gives him the right to overconsume and overpopulate at will whether or not he uses those rights.

Wasn't the footage from the Carol concert last night lovely? How warmly W & greeted Zara, Eugenie and Beatrice and their husbands. You can see how close and and loving they all are.

The children attending too! Little Tony and Mila. Such a heart warming event I'll watch it on Christmas eve (on ITV Xmas Wink)

SueSaid · 09/12/2021 08:46

julieca · 09/12/2021 10:35

@Evergreenblue we get rid of some grouse moors. Again I DO know what I am talking about. The UK invertebrate population is in freefall at the moment. We should be doing everything to support it. Grouse moors are terrible for native wildlife. Some are fine, but from memory about 17% of the UK land is taken up with grouse moors. This is terrible environmentally.
Your argument is like arguing you need insecticide in the garden because otherwise the weeds take over the flowers. Instead of questioning whether you should be planting lots of delicate flowers anyway. It is not the gotcha you think it is.

You mean they didn't look 'ever so dysfunctional' after all? Smile
julieca · 09/12/2021 10:50

Honestly you have no idea how loving they are all from watching them say hello to each other while they know the world is watching.
I can greet my brother who I cant stand warmly in public.

SueSaid · 09/12/2021 10:54

'Honestly you have no idea how loving they are all from watching them say hello to each other while they know the world is watching.'

Hmm maybe not how loving they are, just how relaxed they are with each other. You can tell a lot from body language imo.

SueSaid · 09/12/2021 10:56

'I can greet my brother who I cant stand warmly in public.'

Why would you greet him warmly if you can't stand him? Confused. A brief nod and hello would suffice surely?

Roussette · 09/12/2021 12:28

With the press and cameras focussing on them big time, would they honestly just do a brief nod and a hello?
Nah. They are royal, they know what to do.
