can fuck right off. Why is it when overpopulation is talked about the implication is always that there's too many black or brown people? Not to mention the hypocrisy of him having 3 kids himself. It makes me sick.

@Theunamedcat

David Attenborough said this years ago

I'm assuming he is an ignorant knobber too

Has National Treasure David Attenborough ever gone anywhere by aeroplane?
upinaballoon · 26/11/2021 11:03

what they are not able to recycle is waste that is dumped on their shores by other countries
This is what I tell myself when I set fire to my little bonfires in England - saves Turkey or somewhere else from getting the nasty pollution. Smile

The fact he is a hypocrite as well as whatever he was to his brother should not be a surprise. And none of them seem particularly bright.

CommonRoom · 26/11/2021 11:13

Caveat; I am not a great supporter of the royal family.

But, Why do people say that they 'lecture' or 'preach' though? It's often said about Harry and Meghan too but never about, for example, The Queen, David Attenborough, Duke of Edinburgh etc.

I think when people say that someone is 'lecturing' they mean 'someone I don't like is giving their opinion'. It sounds childish to say that someone is lecturing. As if you see see them like your unpopular headmaster.

Someone we don't know and who we may or may not like is giving their completely unqualified opinion, to which they have every right, but no more right than you or I or any other unqualified person. The only thing getting them the airtime for that opinion is their unearned privilege, and that privilege is maintained by us paying for him to sit in a mansion, do what he likes and tell us how to behave while doing the complete opposite.

A headmaster, however unpopular, may at least be qualified to hold that position and have some authority.

PW is a taxpayer-subsidised ex-helicopter pilot desperately trying to justify his family's existence with good causes.

@ChurchofLatterDayPaints

Prince William is not 'telling us what to do' though. He's saying it's a bad situation that we have all contributed it. He is allowed to say that. You can ignore him (I know I do) because he is not your dad or teacher.

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 26/11/2021 12:03

Ignore at your own risk, CommonRoom.

Entitled ignorant hypocrites everywhere need to be held to account and called on it, or we'll end up with ... A load of entitled ignorant hypocrites in actual government. Oh wait...

Also we are paying for him to talk drivel. Misuse of taxpayer funds, why is that OK to ignore?

I'm fine thanks.

@Tuckedinbelly

Hes a dick. And thick.
Do you know the saying "It takes one to know one"?
MilduraS · 26/11/2021 12:07

Yes, he's travelled extensively but I think he suggested he would give it up last year. There was a fascinating clip from a documentary he made in the early 70s when he travelled to Papua New Guinea to find a uncontacted tribe. Something that would probably be very frowned upon these days. Still, his travel led to millions being educated on the world so I think he could be forgiven.

GingerScallop · 26/11/2021 12:22

The issue is he is identifying the wrong problem. He is just parroting colonial views of Africa rather than the real issue of what destroys habitats

What colonial view has he parroted?
HyacynthBucket · 26/11/2021 12:26

This thread seems to be an outlet for the hatefilled, jealous and permanently offended, interspersed with some actual facts and reason from others. I find the amount of vitriol and ignorance on here quite disturbing. It actually reminds me of old-style racist ranting.

ClaudiaJ1 · 26/11/2021 12:32

Watch This Thread is there for a reason @derxa. It's selfish to take up a post on 1000 post limit for nothing. Selfish and disrespectful which that's what Watch This Thread is there for. So you don't have to do that.

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 26/11/2021 12:40

That's hilarious. Spoken like a true elitist.

How very dare people be angry about things. So very unbecoming.

Do have another cup of tea Hyacynth. Didn't Kate look stunning the other evening. I do so hope her charming husband can act as a guide and mentor for the misguided youth of today.

I think it is you who should calm down a bit. Then look in the mirror, remind yourself about "He who is without sin throw the first stone" and maybe ask yourself where all this vitriol is coming from.

CommonRoom · 26/11/2021 12:53

It's the ranting against individuals that is the problem. I have no time for the royal family and imo there shouldn't be one at all. But it's a systemic issue, it's not because I hate any individuals. I don't hate Prince William in the same way that I don't think people with very little money should just work a bit harder.

The royal family don't have to be interested in the environment or any of the other good causes they speak about. Most of them aren't bad individuals. They just shouldn't be in the position they are in. That's what we should be angry about.

In the meantime, he can say what he likes. It's not a lecture, he's just an average bloke giving his opinion.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 26/11/2021 13:05

he's just an average bloke giving his opinion

He's not, though, is he? He has a huge international platform for no reason other than an accident of birth. He has a responsibility to use that platform wisely.

He could have used his speech to highlight how the behaviours and commercial desires of developed countries drive environmental damage and habitat loss in less developed countries. No one disputes that human population pressures are driving habitat loss. But it is global problem, not an issue caused by the people who happen to live closest to those habitats - who are, in fact, the people who gain least and suffer most from the resulting environmental damage.

GucciBear · 26/11/2021 13:05

What is the fuss about?? Prince William made a good point! Because there are too many people in certain areas they have insufficient food and medical help. Too many people also means that the indigenous wildlife is being driven to extinction. Surely it makes perfect sense for family planning in order that everyone has enough to eat and that we do not kill off all other life. The fact that William has 3 children is neither here or there - presumably if food were in short supply where he lives - he would not have extended his family as much. Doesn't matter to the poor elephants and rhinos that are shot what colour the aggressor is. We need to change attitudes and care for other species and not just our own. Humans are the danger to the planet and we have put its survival in peril.

Any chance of actually addressing the OP's question, Hyacynth, or are you just here to utter spiritual irrelevances?

You could also try answering my questions upthread, come to that. As they are rather more relevant to the topic than sanctimonious Bible quotes (I assume it was from the Bible, obviously I'm usually too busy worshipping the dark forces to read that stuff).

HyacynthBucket · 26/11/2021 14:01

ChurchofLatterDayPaints
I did answer OP's post - it is on page 3 of the thread.

The quote you take exception to is about hypocrisy.
